@@MmogurlI haven't even played Inquisition yet but just from watching gaming videos on yt, I have become a hardcore Solasmancer. So... I guess at least you're not alone. Btw, now I'm dreading Astarion's storyline because clearly I have learned absolutely nothing and have gone for the 'older elf with a dark past' once again.
As soon as he starts talking about Mystra I'm out haha. Astarion "pretending to read" in that photobomb was so funny - like he wants to eavesdrop but doesn't care about doing a good job hiding it. It's the snarky vampire for me.
Loved the video! I'm not too worried or bothered about the Mystra thing tbh, especially since it seems that relationship was messed UP. The power imbalance alone is pretty nasty, and when you add up that Gale keeps saying he was "a very young man", Mystra just sounds like a creepy cradle-snatcher. My guess is that we'll come to a point in the game where she might want to take him back, and whether or not he crawls back to her will probably depend on your actions and relationship with him. Also, it actually puts me at ease that he says he doesn't know if he's still in love with Mystra when you ask, because I wouldn't have believed him if he'd said no, and he'd come off as a liar. I much prefer his honesty.
LOL - creepy cradle snatcher. Since I originally posted this, I've been leaning towards thinking maybe something happened to Mystra that interrupted their relationship. I actually bought three of the books from the Avatar series, which my husband tells me stars nonother then Gale! So, maybe that will shine some light on the situation.. maybe not. Will still be interesting!
I have to be honest I was not a fan of the way he almost guilt trips your character into staying with him. Like "we slept together, so you have to stay with me" kind of a thing. It's pretty manipulative, and though I don't think he meant it so, it's still not okay. That's something that's kind of turned me off of romancing his character in general - there's a lot of set up for a very unhealthy relationship ^^'
Yeah, it put a sour taste in my mouth for sure which is kind of bleh because the lead up was really good. On one hand, it's like you're happy he told you, but on the other you're thinking.. you had to wait until after we did the thing?? Couldn't have said this sooner?!
It fits the character though. He seems like a passionate man, to a fault. A good man but not stoic in any way. It fits him to be emotionally dependent and being "unintentionally" guilt manipulating you. You can see this in his reactions to Nettie and if you put yourself in front of the crossbow to protect the goblin. They're almost.... "unwizardly".
@@lakynpayne6476 I wouldn’t worry too much about it- I think it’s pretty clear that he doesn’t mean harm by it, so he is at least well intentioned. It’s still wildly unhealthy so I’d never recommend staying in a relationship like that irl but for a game, it could be worse. But he is admittedly HOT AF especially in his character art and until the confession he is rather swoon worthy from what I’ve seen. I simped for him too until this - don’t feel disgusted about it, just adjust your perspective accordingly :)
Gale honestly feels like a player in romance once you get to explore more dialogues with him Yes he's a nice guy overall, but as someone else already mentioned he basically avoids telling you about Mystra in order to get into your pants, and he is also willing to persuade you into cheating other characters. That's not okay lol Even if he had your best interests in mind (like say, he thinks all the other romance options will be bad for your life aka only hurt you), it's just too convenient for him. He's mostly being selfish He's a nice type of guy, but there are some aspects of his personality that really irk me.. aside from the trickery in love, it also really irks me his always acting like the superior intellectual mind in every conversation. It annoys the hell out of me 😂
It's funny because there is a line if you get with Astarion (maybe anyone else not sure) where he says " Well who am I to judge your tastes (something like that)." And you can call him on it and say . "And yet, you're doing it regardless!" I think it really fits his almost passive aggressive mannerisms. Whereas it comes off like he is a good guy, doing all the right moral things, caring for your PC, but in reality he is being self serving.
I'm not sure if you explored all the dialogue options there, but it just didn't feel right when you talked about being upset by his words/actions, yet kept choosing the nicest dialogue options he would have wanted to hear, and not those that reflected how you felt... I understand it from a player's perspective, but if we assume that this is what your character felt, that whole 'better not upset him' thing felt very unhealthy. Also, if you do chose to be honest about your feelings - and I don't think those dialogue options are rude - Gale says that he didn't tell you anything beforehand because he assumed (probably correctly) that you wouldn't agree to sleep with him, and he couldn't risk that - it's just so manipulative! He literally chose to lie to you to get into your pants, and then kept fawning over his ex right after that! His confession about Mystra changed the weave scene too - how he looks at her longingly, and how he connects to the weave in a way that feels intimate. He is so not over her, and even if he was, in some way his life now revolves around reconnecting with her and/or taking control over a piece of her. This, combined with how mean he can be when demanding artefacts, changed the way I see Gale, and made his romance the worst for me. Maybe it's because of my personal insecurities, but I would immediately leave a man, who is (possibly) in love with his ex and talks about her after tricking me into his bed. So, a complete surprise, but an egomaniacal bouncy vampire slut with moral longevity of a mayfly is your best romance option with his genuinely sweet scene.
That's because if you start choosing those options you don't get the romance dialogue, which is what the video is about. Those options are purposely chosen so people can see all of the romance dialogue. Edit but yes I 100% agree that Gale is a big no in my book.
@@bigdadbeefsticks you can still call him out on purposefully hiding info about Mystra from you after you two had sex, so, you can still have the romance and a bit of truth
I personally didn't really find that there were good options to call him out nicely that worked for my character. There is no "You really hurt me with telling me all this right after we slept together. I trusted you, you could have told me before, but now you betrayed my trust." There is no "I want to do this with you, but I need you to be more upfront with me from now on." Honestly, my character was heartbroken, and he would've been like "I'm sorry, but I need a moment for myself. We can talk about this again later." but you can only tell Gale to leave, and then he will leave the party. I did actually find that often, you only had the choice between being a pushover or a passive-aggressive dick. I mean "So much fun to hear about previous lovers after the night you slept together"? Come on. I just tried it with the way where you asked him to be direct with the story, and it worked much better and felt much more like an honest connection, but it kind of seemed like an out of character thing to say for my sweet bard with a love for stories. The lack of possibility to genuinely express hurt really killed the whole thing for me. The inability to call him out on stuff that irked me did, too. You could call him out on his arrogance, yes. But this timelessness of lovers thing really irked me. I'm not a story or fantasy, I'm a real person.
It's interesting to see how these intimate moments change depending on the atmosphere. Here, being told of a former love he likely still loves brings up some serious red flags. But when he reveals the truth to you outside of the romance, it feels like a very honest and vulnerable moment in the relationship. It goes to show how complex relationships feel in this game. The characters have layers to them and aren't simply one dimensional, at least in my mind. Also, given a few things I have discovered, I have a hunch that we might very well meet Mystra. After all, we have already met a god in early access!
"sounds like the guy who voiced Alistair in Dragon Age" - YES THANK YOU! I've been thinking the EXACT same thing. I checked though and unfortunately, it's not the sae guy
Honestly to me he sounds less like Steve Valentine (Alistair) and more like Greg Ellis (the guy who voiced Cullen in the DA series). He's not either of them but still.
I think since you posted this Gale now discloses his problem and former relationship with Mystra before consumating the romance with him. Or perhaps can if one gets high enough approval prior to the celebration it can happen. Which is an emotionally healthier move on the devs part to make sure Gale provides informed consent to the player. Being hit with this news after spending a night with him just feels... icky to be honest. Also a year later still enjoying rewatching these videos so much. They were a huge influence in deciding to get the game for myself during early access. Looking forward to your thoughts on patch eight and what has all changed for the better or worse compared to previous patch releases.
Yeah about the whole Mystra thing. It sounds really one sided, Mystra wasn't really into him the same way he was. He's exaggerating when he talks about their relationship (he's kinda like an artist he "feels" stuff differently) she showed him some cool magic shit and he thought there was a connection. His whole arc is about how he'll realize the mistake he made and let go of his obsession and instead reapply himself to the much more healthier and REAL relationship with you (the pc).
I'm OK with that - I actually have a story I've been writing for quite some time that has a similar theme with the main female character. It's like idolizing the unobtainable vs growing up and embracing something/one real.
@@Mmogurl Yee, I'm noticing a theme among these companions all of them have a complex relationship that is probably linked to the dream scenes. They all have some person whose approval/affection they want or regret having. Gale and Lae'zel being the former and Wyll and Astarion being the latter. Shadowheart appears on the fence about hers.
Some serious work needs to be done on Gale from a writing perspective. He's all over the place thematically and contradicts his own sentiments and behaviours pretty much with every new response and line. He's flustered and surprised by a scene in which he uses the Weave with the PC for a moment of undeniable intimacy and they respond in kind. Said fluster is completely gone in the next scene, replaced by a forwardness that I felt starkly contrasted everything set up to his character in the previous scene. In fact it came off as a little pushy, "Well, in this very special moment you wanted to kiss me so we ought to bang it out."- starts quoting poetry about newlyweds and altogether pushing forward what was otherwise a tentative 'maybe' and really nothing more. In my honest opinion it was an uncomfortable moment for me. If he had interpreted the weave scene as potentially romantic from the onset (which, knowing his story and relationship he has with it, he MUST have been), then his naive sort of joy initially just comes across as...false. Setting the whole relaionship up to seem...sort of...slimey. This is only accentuated by his later manipulations out of bed. Breaking his 'story' and expecting little to no repercussion- using the recent intimacy with the PC as emotional bargaining. What makes it worse is there are definite /glimmers/ of a character there that has potential as a genuinely interesting and likeable companion. If the writers are setting Gale up to come across as an abusive partner then they're doing a fantastic job. Otherwise...yeah..some serious work needs to be done. It's a shame too because Steve Valentine is such a fantastic voice actor. But he can only do so much with the script given to him.
Yeah, I think you're pretty spot on here. I am hoping that some of the problems will be fixed when they pay more attention to it further in. Sometimes it feels completely jumbled and out of place... One moment it's romantic (the weave) and the next it's 'I slept with Mystra SURPRISE!' I sent this video over to Larian as my own feedback in the hopes that they will consider how strange the romance is now as it stands. Here's hoping they listen!
i don't think gale's forwardness is all that surprising or contradictory. he was caught off guard by the intimacy of the weave scene, and then had time to think about it, recuperate, and get back to his usual confident self. i do think it's a bit full on (especially with him withholding information about mystra to bang you) but i don't think they've made gale seem *abusive*.
So, he was tapped to become a Chosen of Mystra, like Elminster or Blackstaff, but somehow displeased Mystra and was spurned. He then somehow tracked down a fragment of the spell that killed Mystra the first time around, discovered it was Shadow Weave, or at least similar to the Shadow Weave, and now is a walking, talking Karsus's Folly. This could get VERY interesting, VERY quickly.
@@Mmogurl True, it was beautiful and devastating at the same time; my elf mage is going to kill him if she ever sees him again. I did that romance once, and the rest of my chars life happily ever after with their partners, none of which are homicidal wolf gods, thank you very much. I just know Astarion will be just as hurtful. Heartbreak here I come^^
Something about his Mystra story seems off. Midnight (current Mystra) is the (former) lover of Kelemvor and given the person she was, this sounds a little out of character for her. I only note this because the devs have so-far been pretty spot on in grabbing the details of the world.
Yeah, I confess I don't know much about her/his lore, but I did recently pick up the avatar series which I'm told discusses this bit of the history pretty well. There's always the possibility that the twisted it a tad as well.. but it's hard to say one way or the other without knowing more background myself!
Oh, it's no worries. Glad to help, it is a bit of a mess. The root problem is that, unlike other settings, the rules and the lore of Forgotten Realms are intertwined. This is good and bad. The bad is that every new edition almost invariably falls back on the death of Mystra to explain why the world is so abruptly different. By this point in 5th edition, it is the 3rd (or 4th, depending on how you count) time it has happened. Admittedly, there is more than enough grounding to state that she is no longer the same person and that her old ties are truly gone by this point.
1:13 gale sounds exactly like me- meanwhile im in love with Astarion who enjoys seeing people in pain and dislikes helping or being nice to people *cue wicked witch of the west* "OH WHAT A WORLD WHAT A WORLD"
I think that the whole 'love Mystra' thing wil depend on the route you will take with him. Like 'the bad ending' will have him go back to Mystra, and 'the good ending' will have him go with you? Who knows, maybe there is a secret harem ending and the tree of you will end up together LOL
LOL That would be amazing. I really hate the idea of Gale just up and leaving your character though if you were to be committed to just him. How awful would that be? Uggggh. I think this harem ending would be best heheh.
Call me morbid, but I think the real bad ending would be him trying to control the orb and failing, becoming a fleshy abomination and turning into stone like Karsus. Or him getting into some sort of bad deal and getting used like a magical battery. Him becoming Chosen One again would be sad for the PC, but not so bad for him
I think, for rp reasons, i'll romance Gale and after their night together, feeling insecure, persue Astarion. At least i feel like someone first choice with him.
I missed Astarion the entire time. Not just because Astarion is the best, but because I legit think he's the better guy (chaotic evil fangs and all). At least Astarion never pulls anything like this (hopefully that statement ages well), and he's genuinely sweet when you "find each other, darling". This is the first time I'm hearing Gale's revelation, and . . . wow. Did not enjoy the manipulative aspect of it at all. First he sleeps with you, and only *then* does he drop this huge bomb where he doesn't even deny being in love with someone else (whether she's a goddess or a mushroom, it doesn't really matter; it's sleazy and wreaks of unresolved issues either way), and then after all of that says, "But I hope you don't abandon me. After all we've been through, *after the night we spent together* surely we can brave even this [i.e. my obsessive insanity to get back a woman who dumped me that turned me into a bomb] side by side." Ummmm, no. Sorry, but I'm going back to the vampire whose worst crime was trying to bite me as a test to see if the poor thing even *could* because his master had cruelly only fed him rats up until that point. *backpeddles like a maniac until I see Astarion * Astarion: "Hello, lover. Miss me?" Me: Ah, that's better.
LOL! Ironically, even though he sounds like Alistair, I still fell pretty hard for Astarion.. I'm kind of hoping they improve Gale's romance a bit so that he feels like a better option. Need me some Alistair voice xD
@@Mmogurl Thank you so so much I'll definitely look into it. By the way, have you thought of covering the game Genshin Impact. It's a fun game and I know you quit BDO because of monetary tactics they used so you may not enjoy it but I can definitely see you making F2P guides on the game.
the only thing i dislike about his romance is that he actually disapproves if you're telling him you're not in the mood :/ i hope we'll have the possibility to romance a character without having to bang them at the first opportunity...
A romance like that is already in the game. If you choose to spend the night with Shadowheart, you don't actually get to have sex with her and just spend the night drinking wine under the stars. It's to the point where the big moment of physical intimacy in that sequence is a kiss at the very end.
I also just discovered that Wyll's romance (once you figure out how to trigger it and bypass the bugs) can also be played this way. Though it requires initially expressing interest in and attempting to consummate with him, when visions of Mizora interrupt and disrupt your alone time with him, you can, instead of attempting the difficult Persuasion check (requires rolling a 15 if you don't have any modifiers) to convince him that you can keep her out of his head (which you pull off successfully if you pass the check), you can instead choose to say that you just want to spend the night at his side and he will respond positively and agree to it.
@@aidanmorley3736 wyll's romance is so sweet though!!! i managed to trigger it and i don't know how it was before the new patch but right now my character seems to kiss his forehead and 🥺🥺
I'd argue Gale is giving you high praise. Trust is so hard to build yet so easy to break but your PC lets him open up. You shouldn't try to compete with a goddess but by being mortal you can also do something the goddess of magic can't. Namely, just be there mortal to mortal.
I can tell I read Gale a lot differently than a lot of the people in the comments. I didn't read the lack of information about Mystra to be something he held back just to get into our pants. I read it more as a revelation he felt the need to disclose now that we'd gotten so close. I do have a tendency to find the character witty and charming, though, so who knows if I'm missing something. For the most part it felt like as our connection deepened he let us in even more, though I totally agree that's not reflected in a lot of the dialogue outside of those specific scenes and a few interactions. The way he addresses the PC is one of the things that had me choosing him for my good aligned character's romance in the first place, so I'm not totally dissatisfied with his phrases being the same. "That's the magic word."...Spot on that that line makes NO sense. lol
I redid the romance in patch 4 and have a different perspective now - ie he feels a lot more sincere and less like he's still in love with Mystra.. although I can't tell if it's because I KNEW it was coming, or because they changed the dialogue around a bit. That video should be coming out within a week or two so keep an eye out!
Romancing Gale feels like you're trying to romance a single father that didn't want to get divorced but had no choice. He's corny, sweet and caring, really gentle hearted guy. Then you hear him talk about his ex and you're like "yeah no I aint dealin with your emotional baggage sweetie you need to sort that out yourself first"
I can agree that this way how you got the romance scene, it might seem a bit "woah there Gale, not so fast" , but there is actually a scene with Gale that he tries to cast a spell and fails, and then after talking (or not talking) about it he will mention the Weave scene - he says that he thinks about it and then you'll have another chance to flirt a bit with him. I'll assume you didn't get that because god damn the weave scene and the flirting with him still makes me giggly after a couple weeks I experienced it first time. But I am torn from the story after the night - at the same time, he is really brutally honest and it actually bit hurted to listen him talk about the love with Mystra, but it fits him - if he didn't tell, he would be leaving out important information from himself. If he had waited longer, it would have been getting worse and worse. But what I am really happy with, is that you really can be upset with him and he will try to explain himself and also, he doesn't disapprove being upset to him or being apprehensive. I also think the discussion is bit better if you actually are upset with him. The character is not really forced to have the "happy options" to gain the max approval, which I really like. I feel the apology could've been better, but I do like that they did add it there. As what comes to later game and Gale and Mystra, I don't know well Mystra to tell about her part, I do think we will get a "it's me or her" moment with her. I don't know the outcome for that, I would wish it isn't just either one - I think we should have both options for staying with Gale or let him pursue his old love with Mystra. Gale's has shown quite much trust and feelings towards the main character that I would think if he'd go "Yeah Imma go bang a goddess" it would be so out of character from him. Though I haven't played DA:O or know Solas who seems to be referred often in this topic so I don't know how other games have managed the romances like this. And maybe I'm naive lol.
To add to that as well, if you do go down the annoyed route, he'll tell you the plain version of the story, without fluff. His reply when you tell him you 'slept with a monster' is amusing too, again, without disapproval. His comment the night afterwards when you tell him the night was a mistake is arrogant though. That's a definite "wtf" moment. Some of his best bits of dialogue post scene are when you're expressing your anger/disappointment at him afterwards though!
Haha, Solas was from Inquisition, and to keep too many spoilers out of it, ends up being someone you really didn't expect him to be and he dumps you mid-romance. It's kind of rough, but there are still some options later on in the story if you had romanced him. I think that's why people see a lot of him in Gale..not only the big connections like with Mystra, but not knowing if he will leave. And to be fair, I'd like to think he wouldn't leave, but you have no way of knowing him THAT well by this point. He could still blindside you, ya know? Also, I have seen that seen when he's having trouble with magic, but I couldn't remember there being a flirt in there.
I thought for sure it was him, but I never saw confirmation. I haven't looked in a couple weeks though to see if they had updated the list of "known" voice actors. I figured I'd say he sounds like him just to cover my bases in case it was actually someone else. But man, that voice is pretty telling!
It's not Steve Valentine. Gale's voice actor is Tim Downie. It's on the Baldur's Gate 3 IMDB page. Steve Valentine even tweeted that he doesn't voice Gale since there was confusion.
I love that you pointed out he sounded like Alistair because my friend and I thought so too and we've been calling him "Not-Alistair" or "Nega-Alistair" during our streams. Also because Alistair being an ex-templar and Gale being a mage, haha. "Real Alistair wouldn't do this to me." I also didn't like how we got this whole info dump AFTER sleeping with him unlike the other party members, it felt like the writer or director for Gale phoned it in for timing. Some of this stuff should have been conversations before the party scene to allow the player to have the knowledge and make the choices personal for them. Getting an info dump on his ex he's still hung up on right after sleeping with him kind of took all agency away. Which sucks because I think there's some great potential for a really great romance with Gale with the weave scene and some other dialogue. I think if they kept the "I was young and stupid and thought I was in love but realise now that wasn't actually love and I'm paying for it/trying to fix my mistakes" it would actually work but it's way too obvious he's still way too into Mystra and would drop you easily for her, which makes the player even wonder if it's worth pursuing this. If they want to keep this as a romance I'd rather Gale maybe feel more regret and heartache at trying to love a divine being that couldn't return that love and then making a horrible mistake to prove himself. I like the angle that he's a good person, that he approves of you being good and maybe his own follies and how potentially harmful his condition is made him a more empathic person. Hell, they could even keep some of the lingering feelings he has if they wanna keep a drama bit going but have you all meet Mystra later where he gets to face what real love is versus obsession. and while I know they tried to save it with the apology (which would be fine but is a bit awkard), I feel like it'd be better to move the story bit somewhere else away from the night and not have to deal with that weird apology. I felt it should have been handled a bit more like how Wyll was where we got the story upfront and were able to make the choice to keep pursuing him or stopping it. Sorry for rambling so much on this Gale was actually my first romance I stumbled into playing and I was actually really liking it until the cold bucket of water of that scene.
His route is pretty decent, the buildup is nice, though needs a 3d scene between the first flirt and "delight" part to show him gaining confidence towards you... But those stupid facial animations of protagonist character, much worse with the male protag, I wish camera would cut to first person view during dialogs so we wouldn't have to see that awkward atrocity on protag's face.
I WISH I could see the Gale romance for myself, but I cannot get the Weave scene after trying five times. I rest every time his approval level changes, killed him once, did some grove stuff (but not everything because trying not to skyrocket his approval), did the temple. I get the "Go to Hell" talk night 1, "Mirror Image" night 2, then the next time he talks he asks me for artifacts because he "trusts me", then all he does is repeat a dialog begging me for artifacts. I am at my wit's end and have given up on him.
I find I have a really hard time romancing him if I'm not playing as a wizard. If I play as a wizard, it's hard NOT to get him to hang all over you. So, try that out and see how it goes.
@@Mmogurl I finally got it! I had to just play and rest a lot but never ever use the tadpole powers until after the Weave scene. Those dreams would override everything.
The one thing that bothers me about some of the characters from this game is that with those backstories, how the f are they started at level 1 (and 2 for Wyll). Astarion was a magistrate (and in the ass-end of vampirism) so might not really have needed to shiv that many people, if at all until that one time, relying on bureaucracy and status, so it's easiest to believe he's level 1. Shadowheart had her mind wiped, bit of a cliché but ok, it's acceptable. Lae'zel is conceited, so it's plausible that she's more hot air than actual dragonbreath. She's a lot less likable than anyone else though... Wyll ...hmm. Demon pacts are sketchy, but he has a solidified reputation, so now we're getting into the farfetched for a low level character. You'll most likely be level 2 at this stage, but...it's only a baby step though. I don't quite buy it. Gale just pops out of a fast travel rune and acts like he owns the place, and he knows who you are. Confidence is fine and all that, no problem there, but the shit he's already accomplished, I'd expect him to be a lot more jaded, he should definately not be level 1, or he is indeed pulling a sneaky on us a la Solas. I'd still prefer the Egghead though...more snark and poise, but I have a type I guess... .__.
Wyll and Gale bring this up during one of their idle conversations WYLL: "I've tussled with Hill Giants, now a mere werebear could swat me halfway to amn" GALE: "Strange things are happening to us, what festers in our minds may very well impel our bodies"
Gale photobombed a scene with Shadowheart for me -.- his whole damn hand took up the screen XD it's like Doki Doki and the weird 4th wall jealousy jahaha Also I wanted to add, I got exceptional level approval with Gale and got this scene after the party, despite not romancing him. It was of course, excluding thw sex part, we just met up and had a chat about mystra.
I honestly prefer Astarion but still if this turns out to be Solas 2.0 like you said, I will flip my shit. I will punch a hole through my pc screen and sue Larion for making me do it. Just sayin'
I really can't get past the mullet esque style hair and the mustache/beard; it absolutely kills all of my interest in him as a romance. Usually if I enjoy a voice I can get past appearances, but Gale is like Solas for me, the hair/face makes or breaks it completely for me. Blackwall is the biggest example of this for me; I just don't like big beards but he is so dang cute despite it bc his voice and reactions! I also can dig Asterion despite not liking his design from what I've seen, he got a nice voice and he is such a wonderful brat. And typically I would be all over a voice like Gale's (I adore Alistair.) If there was a mod that changed his hair to just long with maybe a loose strand or two maybe near his face I could get past it, but it's a nah for me. He and Solas just rub me the wrong way, so I'd probably pass on his romance. I found Solas's friendship arc really satisfying so hopefully Gale will have a great friendship arc too. The irony is that I probably won't ever play Baldur's Gate III cause my computer barely runs DAI with very few mods and I can't afford a new one. I never had even heard of the game until one of your vids with Astarion popped up in my reccomended. But I have been enjoying all the content youve made on it!
suddenly I don't feel like being a wizard anymore yuck it makes magic feel less about knowledge and more like a cleric but there is no psionic class in the game
I commented this before and I'll comment this again, he looks (to me at least) like the singer Marco Antonio Solis. Still, I understand why some people may find him attractive.
Omg that's great! I actually looked the guy up and it's pretty spot on. His face is maybe a little more delicate looking than Gale's, but it's so close!
yes. i was a warlock. you can still do the weave scene and romance Gale. the different choices given during the weave scene are for other non wizard characters i believe. he even gives some different dialogue regarding you being a warlock in scenes.
Because it's odd when someone thanks you for something and there is no clear reason why. So she says "I'm sure you're welcome" like giving appreciation for whatever it is that he's thanking her for. :D
Different people may attain divinity and take up the mantle of the Goddess of Magic and be called Mystra. The original Mystra is no more, though. I believe the current Mystra was once a mortal female wizard named Midnight and she became Mystra at the end of the Time of Troubles - unless my lore is out of date.
Technically, you're supposed to be able to romance him no matter what - but I always have trouble if I'm not playing a wizard. It might have improved in patch 3 - but he didn't like my character much my first patch 3 game.
I tripped over a vid of him being romanced by a Cleric a while ago, but the Gale cutscenes are bugging all to hell atm so there aren't many vids of it. If you do a search in youtube for "Baldur's Gate 3 Gale romance alternative route" you'll see another example. That one is (I believe) a rogue.
Gotta be honest Gale has always given me the worst vibes. Maybe he's just not my kind of character but I don't trust that he doesn't have ultimately bad intentions.
Dude's nice but cheesy af, and he's obsessed with another woman the whole time? And he wasn't upfront about how incredibly dangerous he is! AND HE'S A LOOT EATER?! Nu-uh man's a fuckboi to be kept at arm's length
i am very scared he's gonna be another solas because he's so nice and no one would suspect him
I’m getting that vibe that’s for sure
Damn, I had forgotten Solas! He is the best villain, Dragon Age 4 can't come soon enough. Var lath vir suledin, Solas.

Is something wrong with me that I liked Solas? o_o
@@MmogurlI haven't even played Inquisition yet but just from watching gaming videos on yt, I have become a hardcore Solasmancer. So... I guess at least you're not alone.

T poseing to assert dominance as a superior wizard.
xD i'm loving the T pose comments haha

@@Mmogurl Wait, they've already written tie-in books for the game?
@@Mmogurl Srsly?? I didn't know that, now I'm super curious!
@bad dreams That's why Astarion is a daddy 😂😂
I never realized it until you said it like that, and now I'm kind of disgusted/unhappy with myself for simping over him.
Gale honestly feels like a player in romance once you get to explore more dialogues with him
Yes he's a nice guy overall, but as someone else already mentioned he basically avoids telling you about Mystra in order to get into your pants, and he is also willing to persuade you into cheating other characters. That's not okay lol
Even if he had your best interests in mind (like say, he thinks all the other romance options will be bad for your life aka only hurt you), it's just too convenient for him. He's mostly being selfish
He's a nice type of guy, but there are some aspects of his personality that really irk me.. aside from the trickery in love, it also really irks me his always acting like the superior intellectual mind in every conversation.
Dragon Age taught us all: never romance the mage if you want a happy ending.
ultimate red herring if it turns out we're wrong about him lol
"bitch you thought we were BioWare?? lmfaooo"
I hope this is sarcastic because Dragon Age taught me the opposite of that
Morrigan and Solas... Beautiful romances but tragiiiiiic
What about Dorian ?
Well... Actually no... You're right. Even a good ending with him means being left behind.
It seems highly sus that his first journal entry says, "He claims to have been on the nautiloid."
I wonder if he is actually the mage who tried to kill Mystra.
I want a man (Astarion) to talk about me the way Gale talks about Mystra lol
Right!? There's time.. the way things look so far at least.. I bet he will be pretty smitten with your character :D
lol aha
When he started to talk about mystra I'm not gonna like it sounded kinda like someone talking about their anime wifeu
"call me scarecrow, baby" lolol!
xD

When I ever Play a Wizard in 5e: *I Practice Magic, not Melodrama*
Minor note: He's not voiced by Steve Valentine.
i don't think gale's forwardness is all that surprising or contradictory. he was caught off guard by the intimacy of the weave scene, and then had time to think about it, recuperate, and get back to his usual confident self. i do think it's a bit full on (especially with him withholding information about mystra to bang you) but i don't think they've made gale seem *abusive*.
I love your pop ups. Had me giggling.
hahaha! I love all the comments talking about T POSE FOR "X"
T pose for dominance.

I just know Astarion will be just as hurtful. Heartbreak here I come^^
My lavellan just wants to kiss him some more ;-; I miss my elf husband

@Ability Drain Hah and the after credits scene would be Gale getting a letter that only says: 'She really is living up to my expectations'
*backpeddles like a maniac until I see Astarion *
Astarion: "Hello, lover. Miss me?"
Me: Ah, that's better.
Same. 1000% same!
Glad my initial dubious impressions of him were on point. Tch.
Though if they do actually involve Mystra, a love triangle/threesome/poly situation with her and him would be enticing...
Love the Lae'zel Tch there xD
God dang it! I was doomed the moment you said he sounds like Alistair. I’m a weak weak woman 😂
LOL! Ironically, even though he sounds like Alistair, I still fell pretty hard for Astarion.. I'm kind of hoping they improve Gale's romance a bit so that he feels like a better option. Need me some Alistair voice xD

the only thing i dislike about his romance is that he actually disapproves if you're telling him you're not in the mood :/
i hope we'll have the possibility to romance a character without having to bang them at the first opportunity...
A romance like that is already in the game. If you choose to spend the night with Shadowheart, you don't actually get to have sex with her and just spend the night drinking wine under the stars. It's to the point where the big moment of physical intimacy in that sequence is a kiss at the very end.
@@aidanmorley3736 oh that's nice to know!! i need to try harder for her to like me then! :')

I'd argue Gale is giving you high praise. Trust is so hard to build yet so easy to break but your PC lets him open up. You shouldn't try to compete with a goddess but by being mortal you can also do something the goddess of magic can't. Namely, just be there mortal to mortal.
"afterwards you can bring it up, but..." I'm sure you already did...LoL
Man, I fiend after those flirt scenes, so yeah I was all over it.
Loved the vid. Cosy vibes.
Baldurs Gate ftw!
Cheers!
@@Mmogurl I sure will! ^_^
Romancing Gale feels like you're trying to romance a single father that didn't want to get divorced but had no choice. He's corny, sweet and caring, really gentle hearted guy. Then you hear him talk about his ex and you're like "yeah no I aint dealin with your emotional baggage sweetie you need to sort that out yourself first"
oh lol at the 20:40 mark, she describes it like that HAHAHAH
i think he sounds more like Cullen. hey we need a new voice for him anyway :D
Yeah, I am trying to save some of Gale's dialogue for later playthroughs..so I haven't seen anywhere near all of it.
He’s gotta soft spot for animals and my character is a Druid 😂🤭 💕❤️
LOL I love the way you give comment on certain situations... :P Not that I am fully agreeing with the opinions but... Yeah, you do have humor. :)
I try xD
The reason he sounds like Alistair from DAO is because it's the same voice actor - Steve Valentine. One of my favorite voices.
I thought for sure it was him, but I never saw confirmation. I haven't looked in a couple weeks though to see if they had updated the list of "known" voice actors. I figured I'd say he sounds like him just to cover my bases in case it was actually someone else. But man, that voice is pretty telling!
@@Mmogurl It drove me nuts until Baldur's Gate finally got listed on imdb. LOL
It's not Steve Valentine. Gale's voice actor is Tim Downie. It's on the Baldur's Gate 3 IMDB page. Steve Valentine even tweeted that he doesn't voice Gale since there was confusion.

@@ThePaganwicca It's not. Cullen is voiced by Greg Ellis. Gale is voiced by Tim Downie.
Never trust a man who idolizes his ex
I'm pretty sure the 'magic word' this time is "again".
I love that you pointed out he sounded like Alistair because my friend and I thought so too and we've been calling him "Not-Alistair" or "Nega-Alistair" during our streams. Also because Alistair being an ex-templar and Gale being a mage, haha. "Real Alistair wouldn't do this to me."
I also didn't like how we got this whole info dump AFTER sleeping with him unlike the other party members, it felt like the writer or director for Gale phoned it in for timing.
But those stupid facial animations of protagonist character, much worse with the male protag, I wish camera would cut to first person view during dialogs so we wouldn't have to see that awkward atrocity on protag's face.
xD I know what you mean
Don't think he would go down that path again. I think he just wants to fulfil a promise or maybe his Destiny
I dunno but I keep of thinking of the line from Lizzo's song Truth hurts.
Why are men great 'til they gotta be great?
I'd still prefer the Egghead though...more snark and poise, but I have a type I guess... .__.
Wyll and Gale bring this up during one of their idle conversations
WYLL: "I've tussled with Hill Giants, now a mere werebear could swat me halfway to amn"
GALE: "Strange things are happening to us, what festers in our minds may very well impel our bodies"
I hear Alistair but I also here Moss from IT Crowd. LOL!
23:16 He meant the magic word is "Again"
"...i appreciated sharing a moment of magic with you"
fuck me dead dude so hot
3:20 when you though he was insinuating love-
Gale photobombed a scene with Shadowheart for me -.- his whole damn hand took up the screen XD it's like Doki Doki and the weird 4th wall jealousy jahaha
Also I wanted to add, I got exceptional level approval with Gale and got this scene after the party, despite not romancing him. It was of course, excluding thw sex part, we just met up and had a chat about mystra.
he looks like he should be a character in like 300 or something
I personally hate that he did the reveal after sex.
Me too!
Im here because I want to be able to romance everyone and make sure I do it right. Im expecting a lot of hours of gameplay and Im ok with that
Wait... Is the narrator VIVIENNE!!!???
No, Abby Craden I believe.
Pretty certain it's the woman that played Malady in Original Sin 2.
This guy gives me the creeps
HOLY SHIT i thought i was the only one that thought gale sounded exactly like alistair from DAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I honestly prefer Astarion but still if this turns out to be Solas 2.0 like you said, I will flip my shit. I will punch a hole through my pc screen and sue Larion for making me do it. Just sayin'
xD I have a new video coming out today that is an update on this whole romance. I actually have a new opinion on it too - so check it out!
@@Mmogurl oh I definitely will. You and I seem to have a similar taste in romances
And typically I would be all over a voice like Gale's (I adore Alistair.)
If there was a mod that changed his hair to just long with maybe a loose strand or two maybe near his face I could get past it, but it's a nah for me.
Isn't Gale's VA the one that did DAI's male inquisitor (British accent) and DOS2's Red Prince? 😲
suddenly I don't feel like being a wizard anymore yuck it makes magic feel less about knowledge and more like a cleric but there is no psionic class in the game
I did not romance him yet he told me his story/secret at some point. If only I could remember when that was...
I honestly think Gale sounds more like Cullen. :)
Yes! I just replied to another comment above that he sounds more like Cullen's VA (Greg Ellis) than Alistair.
@@katherinepowell9272 Given all of the hot water Greg is in with BioWare, Tim Downie might be a fine replacement. :)
11:40 Makes out with eyeball. Sslslslslslslslsl lmfao
Gale reminds me of anders tbh
Can you do the magic stuff with him if your not a wizard ?
yes. i was a warlock. you can still do the weave scene and romance Gale. the different choices given during the weave scene are for other non wizard characters i believe. he even gives some different dialogue regarding you being a warlock in scenes.
Why did Gale say "I love your confidence" after the player character said "I'm sure you're welcome"? English isn't my native language, sorry.
Because it's odd when someone thanks you for something and there is no clear reason why. So she says "I'm sure you're welcome" like giving appreciation for whatever it is that he's thanking her for. :D
gale has two hands
He comes off as a huge jerk the very first time you meet him. I haven't invited him to my party yet. lol
Wait where did doggo come from
It's Scratch! You get him on the east side of the Blighted Village, outside of town!
@@Mmogurl thanks! im gonna go search for him 😃 your video is awesome!
Mystra is still alive in BG 3??
Different people may attain divinity and take up the mantle of the Goddess of Magic and be called Mystra. The original Mystra is no more, though. I believe the current Mystra was once a mortal female wizard named Midnight and she became Mystra at the end of the Time of Troubles - unless my lore is out of date.
Can you romance Gale even if you are not a wizard? Because I rather be a ranger for team balance.
That one is (I believe) a rogue.
i romanced him as a warlock. it worked perfectly. you even get some different dialogues with him regarding being a warlock.
When your character starts t-posing
Gotta be honest Gale has always given me the worst vibes. Maybe he's just not my kind of character but I don't trust that he doesn't have ultimately bad intentions.
Dude's nice but cheesy af, and he's obsessed with another woman the whole time? And he wasn't upfront about how incredibly dangerous he is! AND HE'S A LOOT EATER?! Nu-uh man's a fuckboi to be kept at arm's length
oh hell no
I think most women would be more attracted to Gale after finding out that Mystra herself wanted him, pre-selection and all that.
that's a nice eyeball ya got there... mind if I give it a big ol LICK
Gale seems whack.
