I love this. There are solar farms with the PV panels mounted upright. They are bringing in shockingly high amperage like this. I am planning on running panels down both sided of my van. Sure half will be in the shade, but I will still get much more power than if I am limited to the roof only.

The upright solar farms use bifacial panels. They usually only make more sense at certain lattitudes where sun sits lower or when you want to utilize the space between panels for growing certain types of crops Mounting on the side on a Van like this helps during certain times of the day but it;s a law of dimishing return. Thin flexible ones would have made more sense. The panels he chose also lose some fuel efficiency while driving due to air resistence. IMO a sliding solar drawer on the roof or solar awning would have made more sense if he wanted more solar but maybe he didn't want to spend the extra money.
Mind you, 've always wondered if you covered nearly the entire body of a van (other than front since debris strikes would quickly damage them) how many extra watt hours could in produce daily?

Thanks for sharing your experience. I am thinking about glueing 3 solar panels (flat, light ones) with 130 watt peak each on the side(s) of the van, additionaly to my 420watt peak on the roof (standard poly crystal ones), because I am planning to do winter camping in mediterranean area. So I thought, for winter time, I could face the wall with the panels to the sun, and because of it´s lower azimuth of winter sun rising, it should give even more power than the roof ones.
