That moment... When you're a child.. Didn't understand english at the time (I mainly speak spanish) and you got bored with dialogues so you skipped them .. But you return after many years... And you realize how dark it turns in level 4-2

Hm... when i was a kid, i had a game called "Kyattou Ninden Teyandee" and all of it's cutscenes were in Japanese... and i didn't know Japanese at the time (And still don't), but i never skipped cutscenes because it was amazing to me that videogames could have scenes.
I wonder what would be if i had a PS1 and Klonoa back then...

Personally, this is THE best game for the PlayStation. I love the play style, the animation, the art work, the characters, and (best of all) the music is just beautiful. There won't be another game like it.

i remember back in the day i didnt have a memory card so i would try to get as far as i could in one play through just to turn it off and do it all again tomorrow...i couldnt even imagine doing that now a days...PSOne

One of my all-time favourite games. Took me four years to complete. Couldn't believe it when I finally saw the ending for the first time. If there's anything to criticise about Klonoa, it's the fact that it doesn't exactly reward you after all of that effort. You get the most unexpected, heart-wrenching ending which made me burst into tears. And I completed it at home alone so there was nobody around to hug. :(

the ending, for me is exactly what made it so special. first image i get when i try to remember this game is the ending.
but no this game you can complete less than four whole years you can complete it four days with breaks.
You can beat this game in 3 hours, even with breaks it shouldn't take you less than a day.

Klonoa has such a great soundtrack. I played this when I was a wee sprite. I sometimes catch myself humming tunes from this game even now.

Same here. Especially the moon kindom music is a majestic. I still remember how did not wanted to finish the moon levels. I was chilin there and watching the majestic looking background (the meteors, the shooting stars, the normal stars. The purple dark looking sky)
I never played this game and I regret it. It's such a masterpiece. The music, the characters, the settings and the story all coalesce into something to remember and maybe tell a story to your children. Unfortunately, not that many people remember Klonoa. He was overshadowed by Mario, Sonic, Crash, and Spyro

Every and all videogame IP's mix and match ideas all the time/year by year....Vexx and Blinx the Time Sweeper (I barely played the first one and I never played the second one) + Ty the Tysmanian Tiger + Rayman, Donkey Kong, etc..
I merely listed a few other platform electronic videogame IP's; there are tens or hundreds more that I just can't be bothered to recall/remember.
This title seriously reminds me of a mix between Tomba ! and Kirby or Rayman and Sonic Adventure ! 😒👻😇😈
Jersey Devil... now that’s a game that gives me a straight boner...so classic

I still have this game on disc, was bought for me in 1999 not long after its release and i have kept it safe and played it all these years. the ending never fails to make me cry

I've been looking for a copy of this game for long time. Discovered this gem on Ridge Racer Type 4 as a kid ( back when PS2 was out six months after release ) . Luckily, have it digitally on PS3 from PSN Store. Easily one of my favorite PS1 games .

There is something very heartwarming about this game. Maybe it's because it's so simple and clean that it's kind of like a Disney movie. I really admire it though.

Having only experienced this game via the wii remake and phantasy reverie series, I was reeling watching the cutscene following joka’s defeat ( 1:36:09 ) because it looked so unfamiliar, I didn’t think it was even in the remake. Turns out it was, just the colors and angles (especially if the moon kingdom erupting from the ground) were so much less impactful in the remake that I didn’t recognize it… it’s so beautiful and terrifying here, and klonoa’s expression of rage caught me completely by surprise! Thank you for uploading this, I may have to play the original after all
I’d recommend playing the original, I just got my hands on the phantasy reverie series and so many tiny details were missing that it bugged me. I still think the original PS1 game is the best Klonoa game to come out.
Now assuming you don’t wanna spend an absurd amount on an original PS1 copy of the game you have 2 options. There is a digital version for PS3 and Vita for $7 that is 1 for 1 minus whatever quirks come from being on a different console like the controller. The other way is Emulation, if you can find the files for it given Nintendo had most of the well known emulation websites nuked off the web, the only downside of this method being the setup for the emulator, cause I’ve had emulators not work quite right without a bit of settings adjustment.

Klonoa's a guy, the hyper high-pitched voice is to give an impression that Klonoa is young and energetic
I just got the HD remaster of Klonoa 1 and 2 and I'm happy to see that it's been more or less unchanged. Level design is identical to the original but looks much nicer, and the writing has very minor changes so it's still buy and large the story that so many people love.
This brings back so many memories!

Half of those "enemies" probably didn't even know what was going on. Klonoa just inflated them and tossed'em.

Ghadius was a classic villain, menacing cold and cruel, and had a neat plot to him too, I miss the games of my childhood were villains were actually scary without being cliche. Its really too bad none of my friends remember this game except for a few, this game definitely deserves higher praise than it gets, and not to just be thrown in a pile.
I will NEVER for get this game. Thats why im here 2023 in the age of 30 now. I played 200 psx games but this game and its dark story hit me different. This game also managed to make the small me lose my sht. I was absolutely terrified when nahatomb appeared. It took me a lot of guts to finally finish that fight.
This game is so underrated they need to bring this game back on all platforms 💯

So nostalgic to me 💟 I can't even remember the ending 🥺 probably a good thing after reading the comments. I've not met one person yet who knows of this game. So happy to see how much it is loved here :)

Your wish has been granted in case you weren’t informed but they released Klonoa: Phantasy Reverie Series which is out on most of the modern consoles
I'm glad the remake got more people interested in the franchise, but I really wish we could've gotten a third main entry.
Just beat this today, (1-29-19) such a great, magical, and charming game. Klonoa and Huepow forever.
1:50:00 that’s the most heartbreaking scene, Huepow apologizes to Klonoa for lying to him without explaining it, Klonoa tells him there’s nothing to apologize for as he believes they’ve always been friends. Huepow doesn’t even correct him, instead he continues to use Klonoa to save his own kingdom. Huepow is just plain horrible.

those comments from Huepow that seem weirdly specific gain a whole new meaning after you finish the game. also, since both main games deal with the theme of accepting sorrow, maybe the ending to this as well as Klonoa 2 are related to escapism or depression or something.
I remember the only way I was able to play this was on one of the ps1 demo discs. I don't know how many times I played the level 1 demo ovwr and over. So it is awesome to see the full game now.
I remember playing this game for the first time. It was a bit frustrating but fun. It kind of reminded me of Mischief Makers for the 64.

This game has a wholesome feel about it. It reminds me of Kingdom Hearts for some reason. Overall though it is a very nice game.
The second game's opening seems a lot like Kingdom Hearts. A few surreal lines with the protagonist falling upside-down, it's just like KH and KH2's opening.
I played this as a child... I just can't understand how I passed it by myself... I was 4 years old, any kid at that age would just play because they want... At that age no kid will ever care to think how to go throught the game... They just play because yolo, and I was like that... And yet I managed to win this game... Thought I did hate stage 4-2 with the bones falling... Since I was a kid I didn't understand how to go throught it even when it was actually very EASY
and world 6 man I so loved that because it's kind of like a puzzle. Again, I was a kid, kids don't think when it's a puzzle game... And yet I managed to go throught it LUL

Had the demo back in late '97 or early '98. Bought the game around 2010. Finally played through it tonight in 2022 and beat it, plus finished Extra Vision as well. It's been a journey. Backlogs are a bitch!

Please port this into a Switch
A Switch port of one of the Klonoa games is on the way! We’re not sure which one it is yet, but back in September 2019 the trademark for a “Klonoa Encore” game surfaced along with other games in the “Encore” line of ports, including Mr. Driller. The “Mr. Driller Encore” game released a few months ago, so we should hopefully be getting our Klonoa port very soon!!
