I can not say that you did it like a pro because you did it like a master of the pro, i wish all mechanics would do it as you did it, clean nicely everything
What I like about this video is the attention to detail. You give all of the information and make it look so easy whilst being professional. Cheers pal!
Perfect brake job. You cleaned and greased all the right areas with the right greases. If only all mechanics did as thorough job as you, we wouldn't hear so many noisy brakes.
Great video and channel. You are better than most mechanics who want to do a fast job and cut corners on cleaning the caliper and associated parts. Well done!
You should see the crappy mechanics we have in Britain they have no pride in there work and just want to make quick money you are a master mechanic man
Good video, thank you. I´m just preparing to renovate the brakes on my Astra J. As a newly retired I have all the time I need. Last time I did it was 1989. (Not the same car :))
I replaced my discs and pads a month ago on a second hand car i bought. After 2 days of driving the brake caliper decided to sieze up while driving causing smoke!! The car i bought must of been sitting around for such a long time that rust must of built u in the caliper piston and when new pads were installed the rust caused it to seize up! what a head ache! the smell was horrible haha. Good video! Subscribed.
Thanks for this, I've just removed my discs and pads and I am just waiting on the replacements being delivered. If only commercial garages were as professional as you! Cheers!
Have a go mate just make sure you use a bit of wd and half decent tools if they ain’t been touched for a while, you don’t wanna be rounding any bolts like I did my first time 😬
This guide was brilliant. My only query is that after following this guide I seem to have air on the brake pedal. Could it be that not opening the bleed nipple has pushed air into the system and damaged the brakes somehow?
"If fitting new pads, before refitting the caliper, push back the caliper piston whilst opening the bleed screw. This is to prevent any dirt/debris being forced back up the hydraulic circuit in the ABS modulator" !!!!! From Haynes service instruction.....
What an excellent video, exactly what I need right now. I assume it is the same principal for the rear wheels on the Astra J? Also could you please list the greases / sprays etc. that you used in the video?
excelent, but one thing in mind, when using ATE coated brake discs you don't need to degrease them (its says in manual) because paint prevents rust its not bare surface so it doesn't have any grease on, brake pads will clean disc surface after few miles
Hi there, It's similar, but you have to retract caliper piston with retracting tool. You can check it how to do it in our video here: ruclips.net/video/8C_6vK7phmw/видео.html Regards
I need to buy a tool for unwinding the the brake caliper. What would you say are the requiremements/specification? I have seen there are different models and differenst sizes of the actual circular pad that do the pressing. I suppose it must not be too big. What is the right size?
Thanks for that, I would never have bothered to clean everything and I'm pretty sure the mechanics I have used didn't either as they done it far too quickly. I'm gonna follow this guide during the weekend. Looks a thorough job. I have the copper grease already but what grease did you use for those carrier bolts?
Hi there, copper grease is bad to use with rubber elements, It's better to leave old grease than use copper one. Try to buy silicone grease. Available in any parts stores. Regards :)
Just a heads up to anyone trying this. The wee screw that holds the disc on is made of chewing gum, not metal it seems. I’m now stuck trying to figure this headache out 😂
Repent to Jesus Christ! Are you a sinner? Luke 5:32 King James Version 32 I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. Luke 13:3 King James Version 3 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.
this video is a bit fake. The Screw that holds the disc never ever unscrews - it is stuck and it will break and will need 1 hour to get out. Also all screws and guida slides work very very hard to remove. In your video everything is so easy
I'm sorry, this obsession. you made a mistake in returning the embulo; Before returning the embolus, it is mandatory to open the bleed. For the old fluid, dirty. Do not return to the system by damaging the ABS.
I can not say that you did it like a pro because you did it like a master of the pro, i wish all mechanics would do it as you did it, clean nicely everything
I agree. Good clean up and grease makes all the difference to a good set of working breaks

Thanks for your good instruction. I have just completed my first break change ever 😊
👍🏴😎
think i found a new favourite for tutorials on changing parts out, you made it look easy and did a very thorough job. Thanks for the video :)

@@bc-mr1si hi. Yeah I did. I don't know why it happened so I'm presuming it was just old and siezed.
@@bc-mr1si If you open the bleed nipple, air will come in right? If I only open the reservoir cap is it ok?
Helped a lot! And saved me lots of money, when I could fix myself the brakes! Thanks from Finland / Astra owner
Excellent video for non mechanic people. ❤🎉
Followed this guide today. Took a bit longer than usual but everything looks cleaner
Great to hear it :)
Regards
Very thorough! Excellent. I wish you were my mechanic!
Great video, very informative for those of us who like to have a go at car repairs on our drives. Keep the videos coming.
Thanks for this, I've just removed my discs and pads and I am just waiting on the replacements being delivered. If only commercial garages were as professional as you! Cheers!
Good video I reckon I would attempt doing this myself now , saving some money which is always good thanks buddy

Great video well explained. the correct methods and grease 👍👍
Thank you for charging, its helping so much big like from me and follow from now on.
Cheers….. just done both sides……very helpful 👍
Good video, Great with the Torque numbers on the bolts. Thanks a lot! :D
really clear instructions best one on the utube thanks man
Honestly, thank you so much for this informative and straight forward How To :')
This guide was brilliant. My only query is that after following this guide I seem to have air on the brake pedal. Could it be that not opening the bleed nipple has pushed air into the system and damaged the brakes somehow?
Did you find an answer to your question?
I also got spongy pedal after changing front rotors and pads + rear pads, feels like air in the system

or, remove brake fluid reservoir cap..(?)
Excellent Explained. Well done....
Great instructional video indeed. Would you mind us telling about the brand of brack pads you recommend? Thanks.
ATE, Brembo, TRW, Bosch, ferodo, Zimmermann
Wish i had a driveway or garage to do this myself 😢
What an excellent video, exactly what I need right now. I assume it is the same principal for the rear wheels on the Astra J? Also could you please list the greases / sprays etc. that you used in the video?
Great video,nothing else to say.
Profi.. and TOP..!! Danke
Great job
Great Video! Very Useful thanks 👍
Great video!! It helps me a lot to change my discs and pads next weekend.
What are you using in that spray bottle to clean?
Thanks ;) It's a regular brake cleaner, you can buy single can. Regards
Brilliant video. just like to ask one thing, can i use red grease to lubricate slide pins. Many thanks
Very good video lol. Thanks 😊

Hi ur videos is amazing maybe u can make also a video of changing of broken lug wheel for opel astra j thank you
Great video. I'm about to do some on a 2013 1.6 astra. Question for you:
Do you have to tell the ABS module that you have changed the brake pads?
Hi there. No you don't have to tell ABS module anything, 100% mechanical job.

P.S. I have regular handbrake.

Hi, great video. Is it necessary to bleed the system after replacing these parts? Thank you.

Hi great video would this be same method on a MK1 Zafier and is everything you used in the video needed like the greases and pastes
Are you sure element with rubber shuould be on top?
U made it look easy well done I shall do them my myself thank u .
Good video thanks
Hi mate. I just snapped a guide sleeve bolt that need to be 28nm... what is the size and pitch of this bolt please mate??
I have the Vauxhall workshop manual and just in case the caliper mounting bracket should be just 40nm torque,it's the wheels are 150nm
How can you identify which brake pad goes on the outside and which one goes on the inside (the piston side)?
Are you sure that the slider pin with rubber is on the top ?
Cheers 👍🏴😎
hi, great video! would this work on the newer Vauxhall Insignia (2017-2020) ? Thanks
Hi there, it might be some slight differences but the whole process is very similar.

Hi there. Sorry for so late answer. If you are asking for guide pins, I'm using brake silicone grease ;)
Basically, any high temperature grease will do.
Whats diameter of for wheel 2009 insignia 29,4 or 29.6 or 30.2 ???
Do you not need to open the cap on break fluid reservoir when winding back the piston ?
Yes you need to open the cap of break fluid
Opel Grandland x 1.2 2018 . Does anyone know the tightening torques for the brake caliper and pins ??
Thanks
Could the copper grease be used for the guide pins if I didn't have any normal grease ?
Hi there, copper grease is bad to use with rubber elements, It's better to leave old grease than use copper one. Try to buy silicone grease. Available in any parts stores.

How fix the front plastic ? Like in video preview blue car
Just a heads up to anyone trying this. The wee screw that holds the disc on is made of chewing gum, not metal it seems. I’m now stuck trying to figure this headache out 😂
I have the electronic hand break is this just the same procedure?
Hi there, If you are replacing front brake pads and discs it doesn't matter.
Regards ;)
@@carsguidediy unfortunately it's the back☹️
Is the car at the start an Astra J or the insignia? Great video keep it up
Hi there ! It was Astra J 2.0 cdti 2013
Exelent!
Isnt the wheelnuts 150nm?
What about 2012 1.7cdti 123bhp?
Hi there.
It's the same, you might have smaller brake discs but procedure is the same.
Regards
Why I must to change the clips?
because they come included with the brake pads so why wouldn't you
...Shouldn't you have unscrewed the cap of the brake oil reservoir before work?...
