This is just a small part of its story.

If there were a million more rose and yvettes in the world it would be a much brighter place. I have never had the pleasure of meeting these lovely women but if I did I would certainly give them a hug and thank them for what they have done for the many disadvantaged people they have helped over the years. It's a shame that the government, police etc couldn't provide more assistance instead of giving them no alternative but to close. I hope you both go on to live a long and happy life knowing that you have touched the lives of so many people in need xx

it was a sad day for many when they closed the Gatwick down......visiting and speaking to rose and Yvette afew times just before it closed was something i was so glad for,... seeing some of the clients and how sad they were at loosing "their home".... and the respect and love they had for these two angels without wings, was both touching and sad.....there were a few ups and downs over the years sure but that happens everywhere ,..... but they provided shelter love and support for people nobody else wanted......the clients i talked to spoke highly and very respectful of these ladies, ...yes there are many glad to see them go , with no thought for where the clients were going.....just as long as they were gone.....walking through the near empty hallways you could feel both the joy of the past and the sadness of the now.......this once grand lady has sadly come to an end.....i dont believe she will be restored to her grandeur again, if you could see the beauty in the inside of this building ...the beautiful wood work, ceilings , grand staircase, stained glass window, the amazing set up the original builders did for each room , it goes on and on, i feel this will all be lost like the people who once lived there....rose and etty if you read this im the four leaf clover lady......you will understand.....i miss not being able to chat and know you will be feeling devastated at loosing your wonderful drive for getting out of bed every day....i hope life treats you well and never have any doubts you will be remembered as warm and loving people like your mother, she and your father taught you well and instilled in you warmth and love for all....it was a pleasure meeting you and sharing stories.

All the assholes who resent Rose and Etty for the money they made on the sale of their former home, make me sick. They sure earned it cleaning the rooms and washing the bed linen for 50 years. I’d say they deserved that money and a lot more besides. When their parents died, their other siblings wanted their share of the inheritance. So Rose and Etty had to raise a loan of $3million to buy the place back. And, contrary to what the jealous onlookers say, - by them I mean those creeps who wouldn’t give an hour of their time to look after the down and out in society - Rose and Etty did help all their residents relocate. As well as purchasing some smaller residences around town, which they rent out for below market rates to former residents, they made sure these people could find their way around in their new surroundings, by walking them around the streets to familiarise them. These two sisters should long past have received the Order of Australia or something similar. They didn’t judge the drunks, the schizophrenics or the junkies. Like their parents before them, they provided shelter and acceptance, when no-one else would. And some people resent the fact that they made some money on the sale!?!? They would not have sold, if the local police chief had not forced them out by heavy-handed means. He should have been jailed for what he subjected these women to. I wonder who was paying him to get them out.

Absolutely amazing ❤️ Rose & Etty (and their mum) are angels on earth.
The Gatwick was a home & safe harbour to so many souls. It was such an Iconic part of St Kilda. The Gatwick was run with love. These ladies are all heart and soul. This is what made it such a unique place.. If only every boarding house was run like this .
Rose & Etty you are inspiring, beautiful , strong & amazing .
I wish there were hella more of you in this world. You change people’s lives because you care. ❤️
    Thank you
    🙏

I lived here during a tough time. In the late 90s. I don’t know where I would’ve gone If it wasn’t for these ladies, renting me an affordable room.❤

I rented a place owned by Rose and her bf in suburbs. Nice lady but sadly they ripped us off. The tenants in the complex paid for her bfs utilities. Not separate boxes. They locked us out and won't allow us to get our belongings

Countless murders, countless drug overdoses and countless tapes and hostage situations. The place was damned.

I might point out that the sisters Rose Banks and Yvette Kelly walked away with over 5 millions dollars EACH after the sale of the Gatwick. They decided to keep all of it and spent NONE of that money to help any of the residents find alternative accomodation. That is the legacy they left, their father would be rolling in his grave at the failure of his daughters.

hahahaha they allowed stolen goods to walk right past them, they allowed underage girls to get hooked on drugs and then forced into selling themsleves, they failed to protect their residents. Yer yer they were really good people, they profited off the backs of the vulnerable.

@@harplidreed7140 Hahaha thats exactly what the Gatwick was you idiot, it was a government subsidized for profit business where the sisters made over 1 million per year off the bleeding heart tax payer funded hand outs. Now they walk away with millions and have done nothing to help the people they profess to have cared so much for. It is all about the money for these sisters.
