JEFF HATTERBAN SPOTIFY: open.spotify.com/artist/0zPOG... JOE FRANTA'S SLOP CHEST (my store): slopchestsailorstore.com/ MY INSTAGRAM: / franta.joe MY RV CHANNEL / @joefrantarv
@@jeffhatterban While the spotify version is objectively better, the echo from the ship brings certain quality that I really enjoy. Your voice is really amazing, before I realized Joe had posted this video, I definitely had listened to the ending of a few videos a few times just to hear you singing. Wishing you safe journeys wherever your voyages take you.
First time i herd this song was in your other video, glad you uploaded the full song no disrespect to anyone else but in my opinion this is the best version of the song
Just discovered your channel a couple of days ago and have been making my way through your videos. They are so thoughtfully put together and, at times, quite moving. Your job must really give you a sense of perspective on just how small we really are and how powerful and vast the earth really is.
This song was in the first video I saw of you. It was the grain transfer from Houston to west Africa. That was a great video and the song helped it being great. I subscribed that day. Shouts out to both of ya dudes!
Thanks Greg! This was recorded in the base of the number 2 crane aboard the Liberty Grace. Finding a quiet spot to record on a running ship can be a real challenge.
It's hit and miss. There are a lot of spaces with varying levels of reverb but engine and machinery noise is a problem pretty much everywhere. So trying to get a decent recording means playing LOUD.
Joe, love the channel. Great song. I have two questions: 1) is that an original song? 2) do you know what instrument he’s playing? It looks like a bouzouki but I could be wrong
Sweet! Finally a name to the song. This is a great song for your channel. I like how Jeff sings it. I found the lyrics online and didn’t realize it was someone else’s song. Ya might want to give credit to the original composer to be safe and keep it on your channel.
Hey Tom! I'm not sure how the creator of the video has it set up, but rest assured the writer is properly credited on the back end for revenue and copywriting purposes. Spotify and RUclips have wierd rules about hyphenation in titles ie (Jeff Hatterban cover) and instead insist on including that all in backend. Sorry for any confusion, hopefully you still enjoy.
@@jeffhatterban thanks for the input. I just didn’t want RUclips to take down the video or for it to get flagged. You and Joey boy keep up the good work! 🤘🏼 Wishing ya both safe sailing and good adventures! 🤘🏼
Good tune. Thank Jeff for us please. I noticed what he’s playing is 8 stringed. Is that a large mandolin, or an 8 string guitar? Never really seen something like that before.
This could become the greatest intro song
😢 I can only smash the like button once, but I keep coming back 😊 hope all’s well Joe and Jeff. Fair winds and following seas.
Really enjoyed the song man. The acoustics of the hold add a haunting quality to your voice and the bouzouki. Safe waters man.
My new favorite . Ship video
Jeff is fantastic!!!!
Thanks Alan!
Awesome! What a great voice! : )
Thanks! Glad you liked it.
A man and his guitar and a great story 🔥
That’s not a guitar.
Music and film work, awesome!

My comment came true! Absolutely love this version, thanks so much for posting it!
Really glad you're enjoying it. There are better quality recordings of this track and others on Spotify, iTunes and RUclips

Thanks! High praise indeed given the others who have recorded it. A much higher resolution version is available on Spotify, iTunes and RUclips.
@@jeffhatterban this is the first full version of this song I’ve heard, and you hit it out of the park! Excellent job on it
Such great voice brilliantly put together Thank you.

Excellent job there Jeff…!! ✅
Sounds great in the room you are playing it in. Guessing the sound off the bulkhead. Not sure but it's great

With some harmony added this could be a hit👍👍👍👍👍
Another great video Joe!

tremendous! there is SOmuch awesome in this video... blessing'Z aLLoverYa'LL! xOxOx
Great video.
Check out the song “ Bringing Home The Oil”.Maybe the only song ever written about an Oil Tanker.
Never heard it. I'll check it out. Thanks!
@@jeffhatterban -Just heard about another tanker paen in the group, Mad Sailor.” Roll Northumbria” by the Dread Noughts. It’s pretty good.
Aye aye!
Sounds like there are great acoustics to be found on a ship.
It's hit and miss. There are a lot of spaces with varying levels of reverb but engine and machinery noise is a problem pretty much everywhere. So trying to get a decent recording means playing LOUD.
Memories of the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald, kind of.
that song is a take off of an old sea shanty song with the words changed . It's not the leaving of Liverpool
Very nice, thanks for sharing.
Joe, love the channel. Great song. I have two questions: 1) is that an original song? 2) do you know what instrument he’s playing? It looks like a bouzouki but I could be wrong
Not an original. I believe the original artist was Darcy Broderick. Dead on with the bouzouki. It's a flat back tuned GDAD.
really love this song - learning it myself and trying too do it justice. is that a Mandolin your playing ?

Use that tune for your intro man it's tight
Spotyfi plzzzzzz🎉🎉🎉
Glad you enjoyed it Emil! Spotify is jeffhátterban. I'm shipping out again in a few days but hope to get some more tracks up in December.
Good tune. Thank Jeff for us please.

My gut says it's a mandolin.
@@markakira8988 that’s what I’m thinking as well. Just never seen one that size before, and tone wise sounded very much like a guitar.
Hey Bob. It's a flat back Irish bouzouki. Tuned Gg Dd AA dd.
@@jeffhatterban thanks Jeff. Sounded good.
🤙🤟
you should clip this into your intros brother
Yah
Are you a Newfoundlander? I see on your Spotify playing some great Newfoundland Music. Good on ya!
Not a Newfie but Maine isn't too far away.
What does he sail as? Maybe he’s a fan of the Clancy Brothers.
Hey David. I sail as second mate and the Clancy brothers were really influential on me as a kid.
When’s your next video coming out?
A Scottish song for leaving Nova Scotia? Seems rather apt
Were liric
?
Black gold isn't worth much judging by that ballcap.
This voyage was that cap's last trip.
Great video's!
