Mardis Gras, also called Shrove Tuesday, or Fat Tuesday refers to events of the carnival in New Orleans which ends on Ash Wednesday.
Every year I’ve made it a goal to attend a different Carnival around the world to see how every different culture celebrates. This year it was left to the very last minute before deciding it was time to visit one of the most famous festivals in the US… Mardi Gras. The first time I visited New Orleans Louisiana was years ago and it absolutely blew me away. The food, the music, the scenery and the craziness made for the most unforgettable trip and this was the perfect time to go back.
So myself and Colin Dougan flew in for Mardi Gras 2017 to meet up with our buddies Kevin Rist and Chris Gaines. The goal was to capture the epic parades, the Jazz of Frenchman Street, the anarchy of Bourbon, and to see as many surrounding sights of NOLA as possible. The trip resulted in about 5 days of no sleep, a suitcase full with beads, some epic memories and this film which hopefully gives you a glimpse of how amazing New Orleans Mardi Gras is.

I rode in Krewe of Mercury and was on the dance team for high school. Dance team class was a real class that you got credit for. You learn dance routines all school year long until Mardi Gras season. So much fun!

As a non-New Orleanian I have the great fortune to be a member of the Krewe of Thoth and ride during carnival season every year. For the last few years, as the weather here at home gets cold, I start to watch this video repeatedly as it sums up the spirit and puts me in the mood for my impending trip. To those that have never been, just know that Mardi Gras is this most celebratory and hospitable city at its most celebratory and hospitable. Lived in NOLA 7 years. All 7 Mardi Gras! I suggest staying out of the downtown parades if you have kids! Metairie, the west Bank, all towns around the Gulf Coast have Mardi Gras parades but you must experience the downtown parades at least once! Two straight weeks of parades and alcohol and boobs!😂😂

Only if you want to party 24/7 and not get any sleep. The majority of the city is 🔥🔥 during Mardi Gras. Bourbon is just one street. Explore the CITY, not just bourbon.
