I've just stumbled across this fantastic talk. Thanks Dave. I was amazed to discover on Wikipedia that a Lynx generally needs a larger territory than a tiger!
What a fantastic and balanced presentation on the reintroduction of the Lynx. Initially my thoughts were that Scotland really needs to reforest with natural woodland. However, your statement about managed woodland being suitable is encouraging for Southen Argyll. Personally, I'd sooner see the reduction in the current trend towards intensive farmed woodland as it is detrimental to diversity in bird and invertebrate species. Certainly in Cowal we have an abundance of deer (red and roe). A natural preditor for these would be ideal.
very good and informative video. thanks for that ... here in switzerland the lynx has been tolerated almost everywhere since 1966. would be nice to see the lynx in the scottish highlands. How to deal with livestock / farm animal damage is shown by our (Switzerland) approach to the subject. although the lynx would find more than enough wild animal feed in the highlands ... so the only thing missing is more forest and broad acceptance.
Lovely to find this David- your work is just wonderful.
