"L'aria de lu mare" is an original song composed by the talented and brilliant leader of the group THE NIMPHS OF TAMMORRA, Serena Della Monica (accordion, voice and tammorra). The tune is based on the archaic rhythm of Tammurriata of which this extraordinary Artist has inherited the great art and tradition in her own family directly from her father. All the three artists of LE NINFE DELLA TAMMORRA are from the Amalfi Coast, very near to Salerno (not far from Pompeii and Naples), and they culturally represent the most authentic expression of the ancient world of Magna Graecia that once was spread all over Southern Italy. Once it was the priestesses of the temples who used to play, to sing and to dance to go in trance... a story that unrolls an invisible, spiritual and artistic thread linking so many generations of people since those ancestral times up to our days. These immortal souls have been pulsing uninterrupted for almost 3 millennia in this incredible and spectacular Land of the Myth. Salerno Coast is rich of ancient Greek vestiges; in Paestum (the Temples of Nettuno, Hera and Cerere/Athena) and in Novi Velia (Temple of argive Hera on Mount Gelbison) are still present and stand out as unbelievable masterworks of Architecture of all times. Still well preserved, those stones resound on the sacred and ritual rhythm of the Tammurriata as it was once played on the tammorra. Tammorra is a drum with a larger frame than the tambourine, but its existence is well documented by Greek frame drums painted on the artifacts kept in the Museum of Paestum and certify that this instrument has been played in Salerno area and all over Amalfi Coast for at least 2.600/2.700 years. The rhythm of this ritual music is slower than the one of Tarantella from Irpina or Neapolitan Tarantella (all coming from the same region of Salerno), and it is also slower than Pizzica from Salento in Apulia (the music of the Myth of the Taranta). The Nymphs of the Tammorra have something absolutely solemn in their music, as well as their ability to evoke ancestral reminiscences in the gestures of their hands when strike the skin of the tammorra in order to let flow universal energy and the eternal "whole" of infinity. "Scaramantrika" album by LE NINFE DELLA TAMMORRA was published by the Label ITALIAN WORLD MUSIC (a partnership between renowned IRMA records & MAFFUCCI MUSIC) of which Canio Rosario Maffucci is the Artistic Director.
