I truly believe Solange has picked up where Aaliyah left off before her untimely departure from this life. Solange is taking us to new and strange yet beautiful heights with her musical experimentation and genius composition of this album. I am blown away.
I was 24 when that record dropped and two or three songs i downloaded, this was one of them. When i first listened to it, she was channelling Brandy with the runs, Janet Jackson with soft cooing. Although I found out she was talking about her ex-husband Alan Ferguson prior to their seperation, she was begging him to be more intimate in the relationship. Five years later, I still meditate on this song. It's contemplative, tranquil and at the same time, inviting.
*This is the kind of music we’ve been missing! The time she takes to create, co-create and confirm her art is unmatched! I haven’t purchased an album since 2017. This one got my coin.*

@@AntoniioH a lot of these tracks have deep lyrics..? And this is an album to listen from the start to an end, a neo-soul journey. you can't say beltway has the same tone as jerrod.

Exactly! The use of the phantom synthesizer which is a staple in most of Stevie's hits. And the "Oh the world" at the bridge sounds like Stevie's bridge for my favourite song in the world, "Send One Your Love".

@@jamousemcqueen9925🙂 IMO... This song is about a one-sided relationship where you are physically together but the other person is emotionally distant. Even though there is heavy intimacy involved, the connection is still lacking somehow. That's what I got from this song.
This speaks to me so much. I am not _trying_ to be different, it's just so beautiful, her harmonies touch me in a way that I can't even describe with words.
