OK, so DAN showing up in the shots all over the apartment had me in stitches. You guys are so much fun! The apartment is absolutely gorgeous! Love all the natural wood elements and of course, those windows!
“Long time listener, first time caller” … I sincerely appreciate your candid and very well thought out videos. My Wife and I (from Ottawa, Canada… it lightly snowed yesterday!) are considering the same journey and it is refreshing to see how you both are managing to work through a similar path. Cheers and the very best of luck!
Thanks for all the tips. My wife and I are looking forward to our move to Tomar up from the Alentejo this summer into an unfurnished place. There is something about living within and being surrounded by your own furniture and stuff instead of trying to live with someone else's. Thanks for sharing.
@@HoneymoonAlways We arrived in Feb 2021 to Óbidos and lock down. We liked the general area and the fruit and veg market in Caldas but it just didn’t feel right for us. We began looking for a house with the help of Anna and her team at Savvy Cat Realty which thought the Alentejo area would suit us better (Vale de Santiago is where we have been since last July). It did feel much better for us, very peaceful and quiet which was fine for a time and for when restrictions were in place. We know we were meant to be here to meet the lovely friends we now have and to I guess recover from the stresses of selling everything and moving to a different country during such interesting times. The Universe had other ideas for where we are to settle that is more suited to who we are since all the properties didn’t work out. We are looking for more variety, options, people to interact with and more central to visiting places and when we visited it felt right. We like the market, the size of town, the river, restaurant variety, more expats, walkability, and ease of getting to Lisbon among other things. We highly suggest that everyone take time to visit various areas around Portugal to experience the amazing differences before settling down. Hope this helps. Blessings to you and all who watch. 😊 Karen and Bob
I'd also, as a few others did, like to ask what the monthly rent on your lovely apt.is. In normal circumstances it may seem a bold question, maybe even rude to some but, given the context of your sharing your move and life with the public, I would hope that you'd consider it kind of an expected query. Especially as you are reaching out to other potential expats and, as you've shared the cost of your furnishings. In any case, I'm glad to know how well things are working out for the 2 of you and wish you tons of good fortune and happiness in Portugal.
Very spacious and beautiful apartment. Before we moved to Portugal we never went to Ikea...since moving here :) Ikea has become our go to place for most household items. Enjoy your new place.
"Our water heater thing" lol My husband and I also had an apartment. ( vanlifers now!!!) Be sure and get some of those charcoal bags you can hang for moisture, more so during the winter. Loved the tour!
@@HoneymoonAlways I would say that that kind of apartment shouldn’t have a problem with moisture. It seems to be new construction so walls should have better thermal insulation, and with central heating or AC you should be able to keep the house warm. In apartments it is usually because of cold temperatures inside or cold walls, that you get moisture problems.
It really looks like a dream come true. It is so perfect. I already said but for real when we start looking I am gonna hit you up to see if your landlord has any other places, because this place is almost exactly what we would be looking for. The fridge, with ICE AND WATER OMG! Heat and AC! The view! The 3 bedrooms, I really can't think of anything it is missing. Those floors are just amazing. The floor responsibility contract is a bit odd. Oh yea, did you feel like the Ikea was the same as US Ikea?
I think Dan may have missed his calling as a furniture model. His demonstration of how to use an office desk was particularly inspiring! P.S. My condolences on the loss of your washing machine :(
Love your beautiful apartment. Thank you for sharing the prices of the furniture and places where you bought them, they are very helpful. I have been wanting windows curtains for my apartment in Lisbon. Great video!
Freeport Outlets, like in Maine, US. We’re from Massachusetts and we used to go to the Freeport Outlets in Maine every summer. Freeport is a very picturesque New England town. And of course if you care for Lobsters… I went off on a tangent here, lovely apartment indeed… in Lisbon!
What a nice spacious flat you've found. The kitchen and those bathrooms are amazingly large. Hope your washer is up and running by now. Looks like your tree faded into the background this time 😅. Thanks for the tour!
Fabulous apartment and excellent video, guys! Not sure how I missed it till today but I'm so happy for you. Thanks for sharing some of your sources--we can point you to a couple thrift shops in Arroios where we have scored a few finds!
Congratulations for you new place and new furnishings. Well done with your search for a great place to live. I just subscribed and am glad I found your channel.
Congratulations on your new apartment! I like how spacious it is. I noticed that you have a washing machine but didn’t see a dryer. How do you dry your clothes?
It is a washer dryer combo, but we still just hang dry them. They sell these fold out things everywhere to hang your clothes on to let the dry. This helps use less electricity and the clothes last longer.
Thanks for sharing your shopping experiences. We just arrived in Estoril a few days ago from north TX. Though our place is fully furnished, about to go on our first housewares hunting venture. However, the big question remains unanswered. Does plumbing in your new place have p-traps?
I absolutely love your videos! Very inspiring and encouraging! Where did you find the apartment and what area is that? I absolutely love it. And will be looking for one in the near future. Thank you!
I’d fix if if I was there.. probably blew the breaker and you need to install a new one. Those European breakers go much easier than USA model. See your handyman light guy. I suggest this cause the tub will start to mildew and smell after a time if water isn’t circulating thru the pipes for the jets.
Apartment looks great! Question - what were delivery fees like for your furniture? And how easy/hard would it be to rent a van and pick it up yourself?
The feels we’re around 30-50€ for the big things and most other things had free shipping. You could pick it up yourself, I considered it but didn’t want to drive something big on the roads here. Also rental prices are so high it may not save any money anyway.
I’ve loved having a furnished one and adding pieces that make it mine while I’m still getting settled… but I’m pretty stoked to fully furnish one someday!
As convenient as it is to find a furnished apt, so many of them have too much and too old, furniture... so I'd rather get something unfurnished and purchase what I need.
Were you able to have your furniture delivered to your apartment? If so did IKEA deliver and the other stores that you purchased your furniture from thank you

Hi, your apartment looks great and more modern "American", like I'm interested in. I'm visiting Lisbon Aug 20 to Sep 3. Are there other similar apartments available in your building? I'm looking for T-1/T-2. Do you have a real estate broker you would recommend? Any other tips, would be highly appreciated?
Everything is independently owned so no idea about other units. We recommend looking for real estate agents in the American and Friends PT Facebook group.
