I grew up in South Bend, I was in 4th grade when Shawn Kemp was a senior in high school. It was incredible. The alley oop was a common play they would run . Took Concord all the way to the championship game! Never forget it. It was incredible.
never realised kemp was the same age as zo and laettner- he entered the league so much earlier skipping college. seemed a vet by the time they got into the league.
Le- Minh Kemp, by the time all the high school all-star games was done, was a top 3 player.Only Alonzo Mourning and Billy Owens were considered better, and he did better post season high school than either of them.
Go gators!! Dude had mad game!! I used to play with and against him at the old Florida gym back in the day!! Had hands equivalent to a 7 footer!! I held my own a little and wasn't scared of him but he was far athletic than me! I am 6'6" he had me by a inch or half of one! He was awesome and one cool ass good guy!! Go Gators!!🐊🐊🐊
My father, Steven Walton from Boyd Anderson highschool in Fort Lauderdale was originally selected for this game. He couldn't attend due to personal reasons. Stacey Poole was his rival at Dillard during that time . Sucks, cause this was a great game.
Really? Is there any tape of him on youtube? I don't remember your dad's name. Nor do I remember Greene either. I sure as hell remember Chris Jackson and Mourning. We (my H.S. team) played Indian River (Alonzo's team) in the State Tournament and beat them by 33 pts if I remember right. PS: I did NOT play for my H.S. team. We had 3 guys who ended up going pro (2 pro basketball and 1 pro football). Plus some other really good players. We won the State (VA) and were ranked 3rd in the Country by USA Today and I think 4th by ESPN.
Went to a summer AAU game in Las Vegas and saw three big guys battling for a rebound. Shawn Kemp and Don Maclean vs Alonzo Mourning. The west coast team had Shawn Kemp, Don Maclean, Chris Mills, James Moses, and Darrick Martin. UNLV was in on 4 of those guys before Lloyd Daniels got caught in a crack house and flushed that recruiting class down the toilet.
Well to be fair to Lloyd Daniels being caught in a crack house, the guy couldn't read or write anyways. So, he probably should've been ineligible anyways, smh. That didn't stop Tarkanian from getting him to UNLV. . .
Obviously you don't know basketball or are only 13 years old. Alonzo Mourning (spell the names right if you want to be taken seriously) was a college All American (also nominated for the Basketball HALL OF FAME this year), Billy Owens also became an All American at Syracuse, Christian Laettner was a two-time All American, went to four Final Fours, and National Player of the Year, Larry Johnson was National Player of the Year the year before, LaPhonso Ellis became an All American at Notre Dame, Malik Sealey became a college All American at St. Johns and was having a good career in the NBA before he died in a car crash, Don Maclean became an All American at UCLA, Chris Jackson went onto LSU to become an All American and was the NCAA scoring leader Sean Kemp was a multiple NBA All Star. All of them have had their numbers retired from their college team and Kemp and MoUrning's numbers were retired by their NBA teams. I don't know what your definition of legend is. Those are just the ones off the top of my head from the class of 88. Name a better MacDonald s All American Class. You have already proved your lack of basketball knowledge so your response should be entertaining.
Anthony Broaddus oh no, the pawn, anthony broaddus, doesn't take me seriously. how will i continue on with my life??? non of those guys are legends, sorry. the miami heat retired rony seikaly's number, is he a "legend"? morning is the best one of the group and he's a borderline HOFer. that's one guy. where are the "legends"? this game was terrible. the players are terrible compared to today.
my man Keith Robinson played in the 1986 McDonald's All-American basketball game straight out of school at Champions Grover Cleveland president Buffalo New York
Great Game. Mourning and Owens help set the tone, and probably were the main reason why the East won. Laettner, Sealy, and Werdann also helped.I do wonder why Kenneth Williams didn't play in the game.
He got caught pawning Sean Sutton's jewelry and was quickly dismissed from U.K. He may have spent some time at a JuCo (like weeks) before going to NBA.
Chris Jackson was so much better than Green in this game, college, n pros. In Pros Mahmoud sprouted into a, if not the greatest, player. God Bless n that is the God of Abraham n not mohamad. Love uu all!!
God these were great times, simpler times. College b-ball was every bit as popular if not more so than college football. Selfishly, I kind of wish the NBA had the 3 year rule the NFL does cause college b-ball sucks now

M A K O Kemp went to college for one year.
Stacey Poole, my cousin, this is the biggest thing that was happening in my family and Hometown. Jacksonville, Florida...

one of best mcdonalds games ever.
Still looking for Jordan's McDonald's game. Help! !!

Kemp's Dunk is @ 1 hour 39 minutes. It's pretty sick.
1:39:06
Chris Jackson was like former Texas Western/UTEP guard Bobby Jo Hill.
I was always disappointed that Billy Owens didn't do more in the Pro's. At that time he was my favorite player.
Kemp would have been a beast at Kentucky.
No doubt, Prop 48 messes up a lot of players.
I think only 3 guys in this game didn't make it to the pros..3 out 25 guys. What talent in this game.
No doubt about it. Shawn Kemp, Alonzo Mourning, Chris Jackson/Mahmoud Abdul Rauf, Christian Laetner etc...as Mr Vitale would say: ARE YOU SERIOUS?

The talent in this game was outrageous..Christian Laetner couldn't even get his name pronounced right.
To me, this was the greatest group of high school talent on a basketball court. Look at all the future legends (College and NBA) out there.
like who? morning? kemp? hardly legends...

So you have no real response? Figured. I'll ask again. Which HS class was better than 88? Name the players in that class.
Anthony Broaddus 1995 and most of the classes since then lol. anyone with any basketball knowledge knows that. do some studying kid.
1:39:04 "That's a superstar potential." Dick was smart lol.
Wooden was correct: 19'9 is too close for a three point line.
"Looks like you could use a refresher course!!!"
What part of the video where Shawn Kemp dunk on a break, & Vitale went crazy?
1hour 39min.
Shawn Kemp almost went to Kentucky wtf,
my man Keith Robinson played in the 1986 McDonald's All-American basketball game straight out of school at Champions Grover Cleveland president Buffalo New York
Thomas Wright Derrick Coleman out of Detroit Northern was the best player there.
J.R Reid
RIP Malik Sealy
Miss him! Was a damn good basketball player!! God bless!!✌✌
Damn...forgot Todd was in this game.
Great Game. Mourning and Owens help set the tone, and probably were the main reason why the East won. Laettner, Sealy, and Werdann also helped.I do wonder why Kenneth Williams didn't play in the game.
can someone upload the 1983 McDonalds High School game
83 was pearl washington & winston bennett putting on a show
He got caught pawning Sean Sutton's jewelry and was quickly dismissed from U.K. He may have spent some time at a JuCo (like weeks) before going to NBA.
I got the mc Donald's shirt for sale
If Kenny Williams had played, Malik Sealy wouldn't have started, as good as he was.
Terrell Brandon should have been in the game and starting over Derrick Martin.
Go to 1:39:00 to watch Shawn Kemp's coming out party.
kemp, like Stanley Roberts and Kenny Williams, was Prop 48, so even though he went to Kentucky, he was not elgible to play his freshman year.
The best class since the 79 squad
Correct.
79 is the best ever.
3 white stiffs in this game. Steigenga Mich st Werdann st johns Palmer Duke
Trey Robinson #25, the real MVP
Dicky V Baby!!!! PTP!!!
Didn't Kemp go straight to the NBA? Def. don't remember him going to UK.
No he went to a junior college for two years then went pro.
He attended trinity Valley community college and then went pro!!
Kemp enrolled at Kentucky and got caught stealing some things before the season started and was kicked off the team.
Kemp had UNLV as a top choice also
Chris Jackson was so much better than Green in this game, college, n pros. In Pros Mahmoud sprouted into a, if not the greatest, player. God Bless n that is the God of Abraham n not mohamad. Love uu all!!
La ilaha illallah
did he say slam, jam, bam???.......smh......league's come a long way with commentating.....
God these were great times, simpler times. College b-ball was every bit as popular if not more so than college football. Selfishly, I kind of wish the NBA had the 3 year rule the NFL does cause college b-ball sucks now
Keith Jackson really sucks at calling a basketball game.
#BLUECHIPZ........ALL__AMERICAN🏀🏀🏀:)
