Turbos from a genuine LeMans car - I wonder if this is the first or only time any component has ever raced both LeMans and Lemons? I could see that becoming like a badge of honor, for teams to find some component from a LeMans car to put on their Lemons car, even if it's just some plain old piece of hardware, and even if it doesn't serve any real purpose in their build.
Not covered: The sheet metal is from a junkyard for signs. Square tubing from a cut-up basketball hoop support is used...somewhere in there. The Toro Lawnmower parts are mostly used mower blades. And the total budget (not including the turbos) was something like $363.71. They also plumbed something wrong in the water-cooled turbo setup so that the turbos were filling with water. Ope. One of the greatest Lemons cars ever built.
I have always loved these guys. I auto-crossed with them at a Porsche event just before converting my old RX-7 into a Lemons car. Watching that Metro dominate $50k German sports cars was the greatest. Their creativity is amazing.
The top of the engine cover was made from a sign for a defunked suburban expansion with a dude who looked a lot like Paul Newman, and then we put a fake Paul Newman signature on it too to cap it off. The fender flares are made from an industrial refrigerator pulled out of the junk, and the lip on them are from a cut-up 50-gal drummer schaffers oil.
The spreadsheet call "what's it made of" is a must for sending parts runners to the parts store but even that failed us (we run 1947 Plymouth frankensteined together fom about 30 cars) when the engine is from a 1997 Pontiac GTP...but the plug wires are from a 1996 Camero V6. Sometimes you just learn the had way. This is still probably my favorite ca to watch on tack in the Midwest. We it runs well it is blazingly fast and well driven. When it runs poorly, it is politely driven and passed by our minivan.
I saw footage of this car someplace else on youtube with the NoPro wrap on it and I loved it even before I understood more about it. My family had 5 metros at one point (well, two were Chevy Sprints) Bless yall for all you do haha.
outside of SpeedyCop's insane builds (the sideways bay window bus is my favorite), this is possibly up there for the greatest lemons car ever built. simply fantastic ideas brought to life from the scrap yard, and the end result is something that people honestly cant believe is literally built from trash. "flawless victory"
My favorite car in all of Lemons, and that includes all of SpeedyCop's insane creations, and the NyanCar. Speaking of insane creations, I'd love to see a team build a Lancia Delta S4 homage out of a Golf II or better yet a Dodge Omni
Love the car and the build, absolutely in the sprit of Lemons. I will point out that rule 4.1.2 would make those turbos count to the budget. Not saying that they should, but put them in a BMW and they would for sure count.
someone should do a geo factory racing team theme. The joke being that of course no two geo models are actually made by the same manufacturer. You could have a geo tracker rear axle in a geo metro to make it rwd, and use a 4age from a geo prism gsi to make a Geo AE86. Of course draw inspiration from like super gt ae86s
Adam Carolla owns Paul Newman's 935 where the livery debuted. It's got the original Hawaiian tropics now but he's in the works to create a replica Porsche 935 with the Apple Computer look also.
These guys should do what those Junkyard Miata guys featured on donut media did with their rear wing, That way the wing can generate as much down force possible without the bigger side affects to the steering.
Two Le Mans watercooled turbos that probably cost more than the entire field stuffed in the back of that thing and only making 300 Horsepower. That must be the biggest waste of potential I have ever seen in my life and we need more of this.
I'm struggling to understand how a 2400lb car with 340lb/ft going to the tarmac broke so many wheel studs! The ARP ones are surely good for much, much more than that? What were they doing?
They were made for a plebian Taurus. The answer to your question is...racing. The ARP ones never break. The car also goes through a startling amount of wheel bearings. Like at least one per race. Each one has to be modded for racing duty and said ARP studs.
Those turbos are hilariously cheap and easy to get, they were all over ebay and other outlets for under $800 each, which is really cheap for the Borg Warner EFR frame that they are, typically over $1500 new.
There's a healthy scene racing them in hillclimbs in Eastern Europe. Some much better Fiat parts bolt right in, and some of those Yugos are properly quick. Great idea!
Yugos not made from compressed rust are actually worth money, so that presents a problem. Also, I bet all the parts you cast off the chassis are worthless, so you won't be able to recoup the budget. Someone should still do it though because I doubt they would care.
@@CrabSpirits Naw as in it's not rusted, or as in you would have found the Opal or Yugo? Because I just checked in and it was a 73 Opal in Orange or red and an 83 Yugo in red.
Total n00bie question...why is suspension not considered a safety item exempt from the 500 limit? If the suspension is stiffened to reduce body roll, then wouldn't the car be less likely to roll over, thereby making it safer?
It's a good theoretical question and would probably be applicable if a whole bunch of stock-suspension 1990s SUVs ran in Lemons. As it is, passenger cars have "stiff enough" suspension and low-enough centers of gravity that a "compliant" suspension really hasn't been a major safety concern. Considering it's also the easiest way to spend lots of money to make a car faster, it's easier to make it part of the budget to keep people from showing up with $12,000 of adjustable suspension. That said, you won't get sweated at a Lemons race for replacing things like tie rods, wheel bearings, and ball joints since they are actually safety items. Other stuff that isn't directly related to handling performance is a gray area. And if you show up with Dumpster Stance, you'll get a lot of leeway.

If it was the other way, it would be even more awesome tho
Still, unique race car turbos on a sub-$500 car is the funniest thing xD

This is THE best Lemons car
Nailed it 💯

The fact that you clearly know something about cars but still can't spell CAMARO is haunting me...
Gotta love a car so Frankenstein'd together that not even the people who made it could recreate it.
"Here's $500 THOUSAND dollars. Can you make me a replica Evo4 MetSHO?" "No."

This is why I love this branch of motorsport, ingenuity and one of a kind concepts for the track.

absolutely amazing build
Amazing effort, love it !
i use pool ladder for exhausts all the time its great. even have some on my porsche

It's lemons if you bribe someone it will count. And since it's unreliable it's pretty much legal
I think that car is an exception

It even adds to the cool factor that so many people protest the thing because people with talent build cars out of "stuff!"
We need either a game about lemons24 or the replica cars from this need to be in a game.
Also at 7:29 the other teams are mad cuz he did it to 'em.
I'd be open for developing that one day LMAO
I love the 935.I watched this to see if there was a kit I could get.

Ah! Power Racing Series entry "Yachts What Friends are For" spotted @8:39
Theres nothing that makes me happier then Jay waving his hands in the air yelling "500$ my ass"
Love this car!
Epic build(s)!
Best Lemons platform ever.
BMW move over
Absolutely amazing
"awful computer" LOL!
Macgyver wishes he was this crafty
should have kept the steering gear and clobber together lemon's first in house 4 wheel steering mechanism
nice cameo from bernard at 7:08
Love the jazz flute
They are there actually having fun... im betting that they even have fun building that car..
The Fo Shogun was in there!!!
i like how to turbo is probly worth more than most cars at that race combined
They are winning at life.

Love the "awful computer" branding.. is it called a CRApple?
Excellent suggestion

Brake heating issues?
If they're running 340hp/tq through a stock SHO trans, their witches
Probably helps that it weighs considerably less.

Now someone go snag a Yugo (I know where one is, or at least was 3-4 years ago and it's probably still there) and go even crazier.

@@CrabSpirits it's probably rusted up. Sitting in a junk yard for who knows how long next to an Opel GT in Wisconsin.

So geo metro is a suzuki swift?
It's funny how losers always hate. These guys are the masters of low-buck builds.

Because stock suspension work just fine unless you drive it like you stole it.
