I'm a fellow Nigerian Antinatalist. I suspect there are many more like-minded people around the world , but due to cultural and political constraints, they remain hidden.
Imo the planet is only relevant for sentient beings, but I am anti Natalist for all beings. What i mean is the planet matters for humans as much as any life, but all life is unethical. I care about the earth for the sake of humans while still being anti Natalist.
Matthew is a great Atheist i have known for quite a long time now, I was always curious if he would be an antinatalist, and I am not surprised he is part of our Family here too! great Job
I'm Nigerian, also an antinatalist. When I talk about it,no one here understands what I'm saying...its as if am speaking another language they don't understand.
Having children should not be encouraged but should be discouraged as far as possible because it is unethical Catch a man a fish, and you feed him for a day Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for life But create a man, and you create a lifetime of hunger that didn't need to exist in the first place.
I had an idea recently and Matthew talking about technology reminded me of it. I thought about creating a gaming-oriented antinatalist Discord server to find people to play with. And also more specifically there is massively multiplayer game that is being developed alpha-tested and should be released in a few years : Star Citizen. Basically, it will be cutting-edge a first person quasi-realistic space simulation MMORPG and I had the idea of creating an antinatalist "faction" , group to do activism or just role-play for fun. It would be funny and interesting imo to have say Danny Shine as a guest do his street speeches but in a futuristic/dystopian game simulation. Not sure if it's a good idea yet and didn't think about the details yet but there you go. 🙂
Lawrence, have you experienced this? I don't even know what to call it. It seems like people have totally lost their minds. When stating the reasons for my antinatalist lifestyle, some individuals begin arguing with me, but in doing so, they state the exact same reasons for antinatalism as I do. The first time that happened it totally caught me off guard. I swear it felt as if I was in a Monty Python film. LOL
I just say back "you're proving antinatalism more" or "you're giving me more reasons for antinatalism". The reasons for antinatalism are endless. Starting with all the suffering.
@@user-gu9yq5sj7c That is true. I was an antinatalist decades before I even heard of the term. I'm 60 years old now. But way back in my early childhood, around 6 or 7, I saw all the suffering. I saw the pointlessness of existence. My parents would yell at me for getting bad grades in school. But I'd say, "What does it matter? We all die in the end. It doesn't matter. Smart, dumb, rich, poor, healthy, sick. We all suffer. We all die!" So even at that young age, I vowed to NEVER bring a child into this world. And I have never broken that vow or regretted it. I swear, people give more thought about getting a puppy or a kitten than they do about the curse they are inflicting upon their own unborn children by bringing them into existence.
My view is that even if humans stop procreating, the earth will keep its procreation for new kinds of life. Some life exposed to earth phenomena will always be here. I can't imagine an antinatalist thinking in this clear evolution.
Antinatalists don't want to live with the consequences of global antinatalism because these consequences aren't convenient. It is much more convenient to rely on the work of other procreated humans. Global antinatalism would mean that antinatalists should only rely on themselves (by living alone in the wild) and do all of their own work.
Don't those of you who believe in Antinatalism realize it just means you're traumatized and depressed, so you gave up on society? It doesn't seem wise to make it your identity or philosophize it if you haven't sought out a psychiatrist first instead of confirming your cognitive biases to yourselves online in an echochamber. I'm a Humanist, and that's the path that says science, innovation, and human ingenuity will always find a way to improve and overcome. As for depressed people saying we shouldn't bring kids into the world out of fears they'll be depressed or unhealthy, I was raised that I'll prefer dismemberment to never being born so long as I can still survive the dismemberment because survival means I still have a chance. Survival is a chance to explore the world, improve and make an impact on it, research and learn, meet great people, have fun, and solve problems for myself and the world. But you know what? We have prosthetics today, so dismemberment isn't the worst case scenario. Just as we have cures and vaccines for all sorts of issues, surgeries for many problems across humanity, implants and artificial hearts, eventually any illness or deficit will be compensated for and solved. How will we know if our kids and descendants will hate or appreciate we brought them into the world? It seems mostly based on how we raised them and how well we parented. So just be a good parent or try, and the kids will appreciate being brought into the world. Suicide is done more in Japan than Syria, remember that. One is a trash situation to be born in, the other really isn't, yet people aren't killing themselves out of despair and poverty, they mostly seem to do it out of depression. Depression happens more in 1st world nations and occupations and regions where people aren't socializing enough or haven't given their lives a meaning. Doing more cognitive work means you have more time to question, and then you question existence, and then you may perhaps fall into depression. But why not assign your life a meaning, a purpose to pursue? However, I'm not your psychiatrist, so after reading this, if this resonated with you, then you should talk with a psychiatrist about all this antinatalism, depression, and nihilism. I talk with them all the time because their expertise helps me work more efficiently and challenge cognitive biases, so don't be so narrow-minded to say you don't need one.
Lawrence does other activism and charity that helps the world now. Antinatalism doesn't mean they make their lives meaningless or don't help others. Antinatalism is helping others.
Did you know anything about antinatalism in Nigeria? 🇳🇬
I mean you won't even interview inmendham so who cares?
Hi 👋
Nope man...thanks for this video!
Why would you even care about the people and population in other countries?
Nobody should be born in other countries according to your own philosophy.
I'm a fellow Nigerian Antinatalist. I suspect there are many more like-minded people around the world , but due to cultural and political constraints, they remain hidden.
Great to hear! You guys should defo organise in those Facebook groups (in description) and have some sort of meet-up!

Doing this was a blast!!! 0:55 . Thank you to everyone that watched❤❤❤
It was great to have you on! 🔥
Antinatalism is the compassionate choice: For the human and for the planet!!
Compassionate as long as it is convenient. Antinatalists don't want to live alone on this planet for some reason.
Imo the planet is only relevant for sentient beings, but I am anti Natalist for all beings. What i mean is the planet matters for humans as much as any life, but all life is unethical. I care about the earth for the sake of humans while still being anti Natalist.
This is good to see...nigerians need to get the message
wow people are waking up to this BS world.
They are the TRUE Redpilled people of the world.
Matthew made a great point around the necessity of imposing the experience called life, all of it is really unnecessary to start with.
Preach
These people are inspiring.
100%

Why not procreate when the procreated are inspiring?

An antinatalist/pessimist gaming community sounds cool! More stuff like this the better, you should defo start that up!
At the 30 minute mark Matthew was talking about the paradox of progress
🖤
Great vid 👍😄😄😄
What's that channel, "betternotthanhavebeen"?
If a channel was mentioned it’ll be in the description. But I think you’re talking about the book mentioned, Better Never to Have Been
