I can handle losing characters I care about in movies and games, especially when they go down swinging and make a noble sacrifice. But I love Karlach too damn much. I have to make an exception to that rule just.this.once. I actually really love the Avernus ending and that she comes around and seems happy, with hope and a fix on the horizon. She really does deserve the best and to get to actually live to enjoy it.
My Tav "I'm going with you Karlach!" Karlach "we'll have to fight demons and it will just be the two of us against them!" My Tav "I already said I'm going with you, you don't have to sell me on it."
I choose that ending because... After we saved Baldur's Gate, I realized that I basically did everything for all of my friends except one, Karlach. Like, I was able to help them all, they all had their good endings, but not her. Also Lae'zel, who I was with, had a greater purpose than to stay with "me", which I was ok with...So at the end, she left to lead the Githyanki(s), the thing that she always wanted. And at this moment I was like " Ok, the city is safe, my friends are safe. The only one still suffering here is Karlarch, so let's go with her to Avernus and figure out a way to one day leave this place together " Basically in my mind it was like choosing to live a new adventure, with Karlarch at my side.
This is the ending that I went with. Less of a ‘happily ever after’ and more of ‘Tav and Karlach will return…’ sort of outcome. My head canon for my character in this game would make this ending the absolute perfect one. Sure, they’re in Avernus and likely going to spend the rest of their days fighting demons…but they’re doing it together and on their terms.
This ending is fitting, the only way to have Karlach get a good ending. Everyone else's story is all wrapped up by the end but hers - so what better way to help than to watch her back in Avernus? We'll probably hit Level 20 by the time we leave
There’s for sure a feasible way to save Karlach and give her a normal heart. 1. Remove the engine from her chest, killing her but she’d come back 2. Cast regenerate or have an extra heart lying around somewhere 3. Revivify or resurrection 4. Proceed
Yeah it’s a contrived plot which is why I don’t respect this storyline at all. If they wanted to make us feel really hopeless about her situation they should’ve explained away how magic wouldn’t be able to help her. This is something that would’ve easily been fixable in 5E of all things. If they went with BX then I would be more apt to buy into the hopelessness.
@@MerlinTheCommenterI think that can be explained away. The engine wasn't put there by just anyone, it was put there by zariel an archdevil. While I'm glad Larian took the time to listen to their community and reshot an alternate ending for Karlach, I still feel like this option should have come on the tail end of a hefty [Persuasian] check. When I left the choice up to her, though, she opted to go to Avernus, which, honestly, felt like a backslide for her character. She stated very clearly earlier in the story that given the choice, she would prefer to die surrounded by the people she loves in the land that she loves. That would have been the choice more in line with her character and her values. It would have been the *braver* choice.
I think by going to Avernus with those she loves, she can help more people and so that is why she chose that. She could just die on the surface surrounded by love, or she could go with her love and help save more people (and I think she enjoyed being a hero).
Her mental breakdown after killing Gortash makes it clear that she doesn't want to die. The chance to survive and be in the company of friends is greatly alluring to her. She doesn't want to go back to being a slave, but, with Wyll and maybe Tav, she has a fighting chance to live free.
I would still like an ending where Karlach can have her heart fixed so she doesn't have to go back to Avernus. Even thr possibility of her and her soldier to have children of her own.
Every time I come across a stuff animal bear I always give it to Karlach since I can't seem to find where Build-A-Bear workshop is in Baldur's Gate. If anyone knows where it is please let me know.

I don't know about "bowing down" but I am glad that they put it back in, because it was already bad enough that you could fix her engine if she was your origin character, but you're telling me I can't go with her to Avernus? Whack! This, to me, is the best of a bad situation, and at least gave me something that makes me happy, while also still sticking to the plans Larian apparently had for Karlach, even if I disagree with them.
The thing is it seems that only Kerlach feels the wrath of this forced "artistic freedom", all other companions can have much better endings from similar or worse faith.@@ReadyComicsRoll
