This is so cool, I have never tried propagating this way. I know you had said in your other video that allowing the plant to flower can hinder its growth and can be bad for the plant, however I have had a lot of success by allowing the plant to flower. Once it does flower I pollinate each flower by taking a toothpick, getting some pollen from the flower on the tip, and putting that on the stigma of another flower. I know it sounds kinda weird and meticulous, but the flowers have almost always dropped seeds when I do this and I get baby flyyraps a month or so later!
I may have misspoke in the video. You really only need to cut the flower stalk if your flytrap is unhealthy. It sounds like your flytraps are super healthy and can support flower growth (which they should be able to). What I find is that most people visiting my channel are looking for help because they are new or their plant is in trouble. Healthy flytraps should be allowed to flower! Unless of course you want to try propagating. I might do a video at some point showing the pollination of the flower and getting some seeds! I appreciate your insightful comment!
Everyone feels different about it, but I love superthrive for any root help!..I just cut my flower tonight and stuck it back down in the same pot sopping in st... Wish me luck! Yours are looking great dude!
So cool man...good job on the new growth! I love gardening and just recently rescued some VFTs from the "death cubes!" lol! So far...ive fallen in love with carnivorous plants!!
They are easy to fall in love with. You will start with a couple then end up trying to figure out how you ended up with so many. Lol. Glad you rescued some traps, they are a lot of fun!
And yes I have a sarracenia catasbei plant, by mistake I have broken a part of rhizome with no roots and its a very small pic like half of a toothpick, but I have planted it up, in one week the pic of rhizome grow its own roots, I was very happy with that, this is my 1st and one and only sarracenia plant.
@@CarnivorousPlantsHub and sir, I leave in a tropical country (India) here the temperature in summers are very high about 40°C-42°C and some time even 45°C at day time and at night time it about 25°C-30°C and in winters it about 22°C-24°C at day time and 11°C-13°C at night time, Can I keep my Sarracenia catesbaei and venue flytrap B52 in full sun in summers and is the temperature at my place in winters fine fo venue flytrap and sarracenia dormancy ?
@@rajeshranjan2052 For good winter dormancy, you need two to three months of temperatures below 10 degrees C. Sarracenia and flytraps are temperate plants, so are difficult in tropical or slightly subtropical areas. Where winter temperatures are too high, many growers store them in baggies in their refrigerator. They will need to be sprayed with a safe fungicide before storing.
Went to Home Depot to look for more pots and bought the last two flytraps they had. One had a flower stock, and I snipped it off. Doing the same thing as here. Wish me luck.
So happy to find your channel! Please keep us updated on how this goes! I've just harvested my seeds after successfully pollinating my venus fly trap. I am a complete beginner in terms of plants so getting some seeds, I'm not gonna lie, I feel like a bloody genius! I will be cutting my stem (that gave the seeds) in the same fashion, I'll see how that goes, in a separate pots as my seeds. Another stem is growing, I'm quite nervous to let it grow till it blooms as one was already draining and I have only 6 traps currently. Though 3 are growing! 🌱🌱
Woo hoo! That's amazing! Its exciting getting seeds, I'm working on that right now as well! It's also exciting when you are propagating and you see that little node show up. Before long, you will have an army venus flytraps and you will be scrambling for distilled water! I wish you the best of luck with growing your baby traps!
You know what, I am super lucky since my VFT since to looove my tap water 😂 I've read somewhere that sometimes they are ok with it until it isn't 'hard' tap water! I also read somewhere that you can give a bit of fertiliser to help your stem grow! I have some random plant fertiliser in my mister so I did give it a couple of that now and then. I don't know if that made any difference but for sure my stem gave me plenty of flowers and now seeds! But let's be honest, it's probably beginner's luck 😅
You can measure your tap water with a TDS meter, only like 12 bucks on Amazon. You want it to read under 50 ppm. Sometimes they do okay at first but long term exposure to water with a high ppm can be harmful. Also, dont use regular plant fertilizer, that will kill the flytrap. There are types of fertilizer that when diluted correctly can be super beneficial, but there is a learning curve with fertilizers and carnivorous plants. I would avoid using the regular fertilizer all together and look up Maxsea for carnivorous plants. I'm going to use it someday, but it for now there are some other videos out there on how to dilute and apply. Keep up the good work, never stop learning! Your army will grow!!!
Thanks for the video! A friend gave me a mostly dead VFT from Home Depot that she bought for $2 in the mostly dead bin. 😂. I have brought back to full beauty with repotting in sphagnum moss, lots of light on top of my aquarium, and distilled water. It’s December so when it is nice and warm, I take it outside for real sun. It has developed some baby plants that I replanted. I just love the little tiny traps. In the last few days my plant has started to grow a flower stalk. I think I’ll let it bloom for that experience and find a video on how to harvest and plant the seeds. This stalk propagation looks very iffy to me without a lot of success.
I've had more success with flower stalk propagation than I have with seeds. My flower stalk propagations seem to strike at about a 90% rate. I've even had flower stalks hit well after the flowers bloomed. It's 100% your option, and either way is a lot of fun and a learning experience. But personally, I have had more success with propagation than collecting seeds. Also, check out this video on propagation, I show you the steps along with the results. One of the flower stalks I used had no business working! Lol. Propagating - ruclips.net/video/L7YazHMLhPk/видео.html then my most recent update, - ruclips.net/video/d1draEIOakI/видео.html - Good luck my friend, I hope whichever you choose, you have great success!
Honestly I have no clue all of my propagation attempts have failed I tried taking leaf callings I’ve not tried a flower stock yet because honestly you taught me that you can actually do that I didn’t know you could propagate from a flower stock if I don’t known that I would’ve save the one from last this past summer and would’ve done that but so good luck hope it works for you and I’ll be sure to try this method myself thank you
My success rate has been low. But, I think I'm starting to figure it out. I'll keep updating this attempt then do another video down the road showing what worked best for me!
I'll do that Joe, good callout. I just wanted to see if I could do it. I had the flower stalks and I had the peat, so I thought I'd give it a whirl. I may get a little more serious about it when I need to produce more.
I bought a B52 on line. It came with a flower stalk. Plant very healthy looking. Within a month I actually had near the bottom of stalk a baby plant forming with traps . I have no idea what to do now. Cut it and plant? Wait longer till baby plant gets bigger? Any ideas?
It really just depends on what you want out of your plant. I actually just did a whole video about whether or not you should cut the flower stalk. I would watch it and decide. If you cut the flower stalk the plant will be stronger but you miss out on the flower and seeds. Watch this video and it should help you decide! ruclips.net/video/VzFezjtKOac/видео.html
I've never measured the humidity, but I do keep it pretty high. I place the cuttings inside of a larger bowl with water in the bottom then cover. So, I'm assuming the humidity inside the little dome is pretty high. But, I've never measured and don't pump any humidity in there, I basically just do a little terrarium setup.
@@CarnivorousPlantsHub The humidity inside your propagation chamber should be in the high 90s - in other words pretty much fully saturated with moisture.

I have not. I think I may need to on my nepenthes cuttings. They are not doing so hot. Any recommendations for nepenthes? I cant get them to root and they are looking a bit sickly.
@@CarnivorousPlantsHub I think you are the first person I have seen that proposes cutting off the basal shoots for propagation. The usual method is to use segments of the long main shoots.
I've seen others do it. The cuttings are doing better. I was worried they wouldn't make it, but they have come through and are doing pretty well. I need to do an update. I don't think it matters if you do basal shoot or stem cuttings. I have a more recent video where I do stem cuttings, the method to get them to root was far quicker and more effective.
You definitely need to keep the pot moist when attempting to propagate the stalks, and don't give up on them if you don't see something happening. as long as the stem has some green, something can happen. As you said, your first attempt failed more due to stopping the keep the medium moist, which is something we all may struggle with.
Yes, I completely agree. That's why my second and 3rd attempt have been more successful. Keeping the second covered and third basically keeps itself completely moist for over a week at a time. I'm just happy they are finally coming through. This seemed much faster and easier in a warm climate where I propagated outdoors. Lol.
I'm new to the carnivorous plant scene and have watered all of mine I have a question Mini greenhouse 58 cm x 40 cm Drosera seeds 100 seeds (Mix) 1.) I have been told that boiled and then cooled water is fine for Sundews. Can anyone confirm this? 2. ) Can I water the sundew filter
I'm not familiar with that water pitcher so I can't comment on the water it outputs. However, the majority of water pitchers do not filter out the needed minerals and nutrients like the zero water pitcher. Boiling water gets rid of some harmful bacteria but does not prep the water for carnivorous plants or in this case sundews. Some tap water can be fine but there is no way to tell without a TDS meter to measure the total dissolved solids. Boiling does not get rid of dissolved solids. The zero water pitcher also eliminated chlorine, which is a big tap water additive that sundews do not like. You probably need a tds meter to 100% answer any of the questions you asked. The only thing certain is using a zero water pitcher. Which does come with a tds meter.
I use Cyberlinke Powerdirector. I actually like editing but I try to keep it simple. I can spend a lot of time editing and less time doing things that are more productive.

Dear Reader, Thank you for your very informative and inspiring video's. I'm going to ask questions, if I may. And I'm going to put them at video's with the same subject. In this case I have a question about flower stock propagation. So, it's a succes. After a while you see small new flytraps developing. But, and this is my question: when do you prick them up and put them in their own flower pots, in their own peat-sand-perlite mix? Because when you don't do a thing, they can crowd and snd perhaps even suffocate each other. But pulling them out of the ground, when they don't have good roots or no roots at all seems destructive also. So: how long after seeing a new flytrap appear do you have to separate and repot the flytraps. With Kind Regards, Michel F. van den Brun absolute beginner
This is a tough question, there isn't really a 100% right answer. A lot of it depends on how big the pot you used for the initial propagation. If it's a tiny pot, you need to probably repot it as soon as the roots start to hit the bottom. Which, depending on how it grows it could be 6 months or even a year later. I usually wait until they seem really healthy and the plant is at least quarter sized. IF you have many in one pot, you may have to split them up a bit sooner.
@@CarnivorousPlantsHub have some dishes laying around and tried them with dorsera, it worked out ok. Now I'm doing the same thing the vft stalks. Had them in there on 6/18. Some turned black and some stay green. I'm totally new. (Green) at this.
I usually just use flower stalks, but you can use a leaf. I don't currently have any videos for doing this. However, if you pull off a leaf with a small chunk of rhizome, you can sometimes get a strike from it as well. I would use same care and conditions that I use for flower stalk propagation.
A growing led light might help imitate the Sun.. My venus flytrap is dying, even the new growing ones.. I probably need to change the sphagnam moss or change the water that I'm using.. I'm a new subscriber and enjoying your Channel.. Greetings from Singapore
Definitely make sure you are watering with RO or distilled water. They do need as much sun as possible, if you can't give them sun then they will need a grow light to satisfy the lack of sun. Growing them indoors is a little trickier and harder to master. If you have the sun where you live, get your plant out there! I'm happy to have you as a new subscriber! I would love to visit Singapore some day!

Growing Carnivorous plants is fun & rewarding, and I recommend it for anyone looking for a worthwhile project!
Best wishes to CPH, and any and all involved in this beautiful endeavour!
Onward & upward, everyone!
-Martin and Buggles
Yes very Beautiful
Thank you!
Awesome! 😀
Please remove the moldy part though
That's probably a good call. I'll get it out of there next time I check.
Have you tried Roottone or any plant hormones used for rooting cuttings?
I have not. I think I may need to on my nepenthes cuttings. They are not doing so hot. Any recommendations for nepenthes? I cant get them to root and they are looking a bit sickly.
@@CarnivorousPlantsHub No. I’m only into North American carnivores.
One of my recent videos was a Neoenthes Ventrata basal shoot cuttings. I neednl to figure out how to stimulate their root growth.
Cant wait whats next
They are starting to take off plus I found more shoots that have growth. Video coming soon!
Could you do a video on cutting Sarracenia rhizomes for propagation. Great videos..
Chris, I definitely need to build up my Sarracenia collection. But I have added that to my list of future videos!
Lol.
I'm new to the carnivorous plant scene and have watered all of mine
I have a question Mini greenhouse 58 cm x 40 cm Drosera seeds 100 seeds (Mix)
1.) I have been told that boiled and then cooled water is fine for Sundews.
Couldn't rooting powder be used to get growth?
I've never used it to be honest. I've always had success without it. Maybe I'll give it a shot sometime!
Nice 👍 I’m curious what editing software do you use and great videos 😃
I use Cyberlinke Powerdirector. I actually like editing but I try to keep it simple. I can spend a lot of time editing and less time doing things that are more productive.
Dear Reader,
Thank you for your very informative and inspiring video's.
With Kind Regards,
Michel F. van den Brun
absolute beginner
This is a tough question, there isn't really a 100% right answer. A lot of it depends on how big the pot you used for the initial propagation. If it's a tiny pot, you need to probably repot it as soon as the roots start to hit the bottom. Which, depending on how it grows it could be 6 months or even a year later. I usually wait until they seem really healthy and the plant is at least quarter sized. IF you have many in one pot, you may have to split them up a bit sooner.
what is the next video to this?
Here is the entire playlist, ruclips.net/p/PLgjZljS6_NRmkuTjcZkmRRgeRPMlp9zIB this reminds me, I need to do an update soon!
Try putting oven light on them without it being on
I've definitely never tried that, I don't think my ovens light is strong enough to give them what they need though.
rinse it with soap n put it in steril peatmoss?
Have you tried using petri dishes instead of what I see here?
Petri dishes? Like for growing bacteria? Do you mean for holding the water or for putting the flower stalks in?
@@CarnivorousPlantsHub have some dishes laying around and tried them with dorsera, it worked out ok. Now I'm doing the same thing the vft stalks. Had them in there on 6/18. Some turned black and some stay green. I'm totally new. (Green) at this.
I found it hard to see one of the options for cloning you said you can use the leaf but in the last video you only used the flower/stem 🌼
Any success?
They did pretty good! I have a playlist with all the updates, you can check it out here. ruclips.net/p/PLgjZljS6_NRmkuTjcZkmRRgeRPMlp9zIB I also cloned some cultivars with flower stalks, check out that playlist here! ruclips.net/p/PLgjZljS6_NRmrddabA8SNx42lJHe8uncn
That’s a tell tale sign you got some babys
Yes!!!
@@CarnivorousPlantsHub it took me like 3-4 months and my vft are very small
Definitely not a fast process. It's hard to be patient! I'm just excited to see something happening. I'm going to try from leaf cuttings this summer, just to try something different.
What are you doing step fly trap
Hey Eian, I don't fully understand your question?
What are you doing step bro?
60 days?
Yep! 60 days!
Try it again when it’s not in dormancy period, the plants know
Huh? The Flower stalks do not go into dormancy...
Each cut you know has only 25% of growing
I've done a lot of these now, my strike rate is definitely higher than 25%, probably closer to 60 or 70%.
