Thank you, Gilles, for giving a very thorough list of reasons as to why or why not to purchase the new XHDATA D-109! The low price of $30.00 is truly a great reason to buy the D-109, but as you say if you truly want to enjoy shortwave and SSB along with the air bands perhaps a XHDATA/Sihuadon (Non SSB) R-108 and/or D-808 would be more suitable paying $20 to $70 more respectively! If you enjoy playing mp3s more than listening to SW perhaps you might prefer the D-109 with its great sound with its heavy magnet for enhanced fidelity so to speak! Thank you, Gilles, as always we enjoy your videos!
I'd personally wouldn't buy the r108 (which I also have), if only for the battery life which is totally great on the d109 and quite bad on the r108. Also, I find the audio to be fantastic on the d109, a lot lot better than all of my other handhelds. And for me, when you have great audio, great battery life, good mw/sw/fm reception, great filters, and as an added bonus, BT (and mp3), this is without any doubts a winner. I'm not saying the r108 is bad, far from it. And it's my personal opinion, I can understand others have a different point of view.
I've found that many of my small portables don't like external antennas. I found the best way to get more stations is to loosely couple the antenna by wrapping one or two turns of the insulated antenna wire around the whip antenna. This gives just enough inductive coupling to avoid a lot of overload and noise and enables me to hear a lot more stations. Hey Gilles. Been enjoying your channel for a while down here in Australia. Out of interest have you ever reviewed the Tecsun R-9700DX? Very sensitive and good audio but have had quite a few issues with it. Cheers Rob 😀
I was thinking about to buy one of the 108s or the D-109 and decided to buy a D-109 because of the MP3 player and bluetooth. In my opinion it's a better value for money than the 108s. In my area I have no overloading problem with a Sangean wire antenna. To be honest, even if I had any overloading I wouldn't mind.
$30 + $15 shipping. De facto a $45 radio for me. Speaker acceptable, nothing more. When on Bluetooth volume is low. Looks like their charging cable is a non-standard custom job ? My radio wont charge with my goto charging cable that works with everything else here... phones, tablet, laptop. Once the price changes there's better options...
Standard USB C cable.. works fine with any cable here, Bluetooth volume is very good, you have to make sure the volume of your device is strong, for $45 it's good for that price. but yes, there are better options
whatever you say about the D 109 I still love it.... such a good radio with good signal and audio..and price is very reasonable ... Llllllllove it!!!

Actually I have owned a Sihuadon R108 in the past and the XHDATA D109 is more sensitive to signals
I got more signals on this radio then the r108

Great review
Good information
If you only paid $30 for it, you got a good deal.
For around $30 more than that you can get a far better receiver though
