I have to say, better than the original by a mile. The decision to have a vocalist in this was genius and added so much! Let’s hope the Diamond and Pearl remake gets a lot of development time to get this level of care.
I mean in order for the optimal remake it'd have to include either your music or have you compose and direct it. I know there's reputable people that I'm sure wouldn't do it wrong but it's just the fact of how right EVERY piece feels and how you manage to just bring everything to a surreal level of quality and just how much emotion and the range of emotions you can invoke just feels natural. Don't even get started on the knowledge and how you are able to just write essays on every single video explaining every detail of production and your own personal thoughts that just add the personality to every piece and seeing your knowledge in action every time with you play an insane variety of instruments and what seems like near mastery of audio editing software. Just what you bring to the table is just truly unique in terms of the quality and deliverance of every video and as much in the end I'd like to see your name in some Pokemon credits I wouldn't know if you'd have the same ability to make your amazing pieces under management and time constriction. I get it may be similar to arranging things with similar people and doing a medley and such but the idea still stands that working for a large company probably alter your work in the end even it might be in the slightest. TLDR; I extremely adore your production quality and how you never seem to fail to grow as an artist and wouldn't want that part to change even if it meant your music would be in remakes.
Happy holidays everyone :) Hope you enjoy the time with your friends and family... and don't forget to play Pokémon Diamond / Pearl / Platinum if you've got the chance! :)
Maybe my favorite song of yours. There’s a lot of tough competition but this is beautiful enough to beat it all out. In my opinion. Love your work thank you for continuing to make great music
Also he is doing covers and not composing them from scratch. Not saying he could not do it, but it may or may not have that pokemon style the original composer had. Now if we are talking about inserting all of these in the remake then that would be pretty fucking cool ^^
Lauralaura Well Toby Fox’s battle theme certainly stands out in Sword and Shield so I think if he only gets to do a single battle theme, that would satisfy. But, all his covers being in the remakes? That would make me so hyped.
Are you kidding me, man? This is incredible! Surprise Christmas jazz is great! The lakes were always interesting to me as a kid, and the more I think about them now, they make less sense to me. Like, did no one try and capture Mesprit, Uxie, and Azelf until Team Galactic? And why do we capture them after setting them free in the first place? Anyway, if I were a legendary Pokemon I'd probably want to live on an island like that somewhere. Not too much nostalgia in this comment I suppose but just rambling about video game logic. Oops.
Not kidding! New music for ya :) I think the idea is that the lake spirits didn’t appear to any unworthy trainers, and I guess most trainers were unworthy trainers. Perhaps mesprit knew something special about the protagonist in Platinum, which is why it appears to the player kinda early in that game if I remember correctly. As for the capturing part after setting them free... that I don’t understand haha. Game logic is weird.
The year I got my dslite I was enraptured by the world, the music, the lore, and exploration. Every year I poke at my save of diamond I've never had the care to complete. I've finished Platinum and got a copy of pearl sitting around but I only really roamed around diamond listening and experiencing the landscape the creators had intended. This year I loaned my ds out to a friend so he could experience some of my games, and this is keeping me in the meantime. I love the gentle embrace of the lake themes, thank you for this wonderful surprise.
I remember playing Diamond before going to school, and having the lake theme stuck in my head because it was so riveting. I’m starting to believe that it was because of video games like Pokémon that my love for music had solidified and remained throughout the years. Thank you for this!!!!!
I have listened to you for years. I totaly forgot u existed for the past year and a half no offence. Becuase my youtube notifications are flooded and I thought of u last week and just listened to so much from you. And I gotta say your pokemon dp stuff is my favorite. Especially since they are my fav pokemon games of all time. Amazing job. I love you music. One suggestion too. You should totaly consider doing the lake trio battle theme or the lake trios cave music. That would be bad to the bone my man!!!
I do not have the words to describe to you how much I love this arrangement! I think this has put me in an awesome holiday mood for a couple years now and I love every part of it. It is so incredibly beautiful and I hope that your holidays are amazing Mr. Carlos!
I'mma be honest, that's by far my favorite thing you've ever put out. I want to write a multiparagraph comment complimenting the spectacular work you three put together but I can't put the emotions this song left me with into words. It was beyond magical. Thank you.
Bro 1:53 will always keep me coming back to this song using that combo of strings and vocals making it feel like its one combined instrument. It's literally my favourite thing in the history of music and I've only seen you and Jimmy Durante do it
You have undoubtedly created the originally intended atmosphere for the lakes. The vocals are so perfect for the feeling, with the lake guardians and all... Everything flows as well (even though a lake is still water, but I think the flow is calm enough to represent a lake) I really like what you've done with this one, and I think you couldn't have gifted us anything better suiting for Christmas
This was lovely, though I would say the lake theme in the original is pure dream fabric to my ears. You guys have done something that text alone cannot express for the beauty and ease to the ears have proved this Christmas. I happily look forward to the next one, Merry Christmas and I hope your New Year starts off with a BANG.
This reminds me of Valak Mountain from Xenoblade Chronicles in the best way possible. When I think of a cover that reimagines and transforms the original into something completely unique, this is what I think of. What a great cover that also fits into the "cannon" of the game. This really made my day. Merry Christmas!
Man, the entire song gave me so many chills. Julia’s vocals got my heart skipping a beat and Samantha’s Harp was so pretty. Amazing work all and Happy Holidays!!
I find it so interesting that you cover my favorite songs from my absolute favorite generation of Pokémon. It came at such an influential time at my life and the music always invoked such a vintage/nostalgic feeling in me. This channel being the way it is a gift. 10/10 would shed tears to jazz again
As I walk along the path towards the lake in the north a pokemon appears in the center. I look across and as the light reflects off the snow I notice the details of this creature. It stares at me before disappearing into the expanse of the water below.
I found another song to add to my christmas chill playlist! Great job! You should compose for video games! You're clearly excellent at arranging and understanding VGM, so maybe the next step after the year of sinnoh is getting to compose for a video game! I would totally buy the game if you were the one who composed on it.
Jesus that drop hit hard and I had tears forming and shivers going through my body Absolute rush of good old memories thank you for this This is absolutely beautiful
Merry christmas carlos ! U make me so nostalgic of 4th generation of pokemon, when i was younger and when the life was most simple ... Luv from france brother !
Just got around to listening to this. Tears are falling from my face as I am typing this. Just a wonderful, wonderful arrangement. I think that me, like many others in the comment section have remembered our childhood joy once again. Thank you so much.
I'm late to listen but.. when I love something, I'm putting high standard for it, YET this one brings me tears... 😭💕 I've been listening to your jazz covers since early 2017 and I've never been disappointed!
twelve christmases ago, I was given my first ever gaming console - a Nintendo DS lite with Pokémon Pearl. this song just unlocked so many memories as usual and I thank u again!! I love this arrangement and just know I’ll be listening to it on repeat :)
Man, this is such a wonderful out-of-the-box approach to this theme! Julia's vocals and Samantha's harp add so much beauty and colour, love how transportative and entrancing the arrangement was! Really dig the classical and minimalism influences that show up in this tune; it's awesome how even after so many videos (and D/P covers no less) you're still continuing to find new and clever ways to innovate!
I always watch your videos knowing you put a lot of work into them, video, mixing, playing, arranging, etc... But then I look in the description and you, the complete mad lad, are GIVING AWAY THE SHEET MUSIC FOR FREE! Keep up the amazing work my friend.
This is such a magnificent reorchestration and arrangement of, what i think to be the most 'magical' pieces of music from any Pokemon game, and you guys made it even more marvelous and enriching. If I was the composer of this song i'd be tearing up at the beauty, creativity, and effort put into this. Well done.
This is absolutely lovely Carlos!! Julia's voice is beautiful, but I must say my favourite bit is probably the flute+harp duet at the start with the flute playing the main theme. I love the somehow serene+frenetic atmosphere, really sounds like somewhere the pixies could be comfortable!
that staccato piano at the start there man, very BOTW horse-music-ey. Fits this so well that i wasn't sure if i was remembering it from zelda or somewhere else in Gen 4.
I generally don't comment on youtube that often, but holy hell I love your stuff man. It's like a catharsis of nostalgia for me. I love it and you are the best musician to ever exist for pokemon
Those Reich influences work so well with this vibe, that's such an inspired choice. Always lovely to see my friends collaborating on incredible works together!
Absolutely fucking bonkers my dude. Carlos never fails to blow me away with his arrangements. I got legitimate chills listening to this and if you were to tell me this was done by a famous composer I wouldn't question it like truly amazing and one of your best Carlos!!
Okay this is easily one of my favorite arrangements of yours, it’s so pretty!! The lake theme was already one of my favorite themes and this is just 👌👌👌
I haven't played much Pokemon, so i was sort of sad when I heard that you were only doing Pokemon for the next year. But then I thought that I might as well listen because I think that you are a great musician. And BOY am I happy that I did. I don't need any nostalgia trips to realize that this is just great. Keep up the great work man!
When I was younger, Uxie was my favorite of the lake trio -- but not that I'm older, I find I'm more fond of Azelf. Maybe it's something about valuing willpower over intelligence, or maybe it's because I learned to prefer a glass cannon over a tank, LOL This piece is wonderfully serene. Julia Henderson's vocals really take this arrangement above and beyond, as does the contrast between the high pitched vocals and the bass clarinet. The intro and the denouement are amazingly wistful and playful, and the main portion feels almost sacred. I think that's exactly what encapsulates the lake trio: A divine power entrusted unto Pokemon that are a bit more mischievous than most. Definitely a favorite piece of mine, just like your last lake theme cover ^^ Happy holidays to you! I look forward to 2020's covers and originals!
Interesting! I used Azelf on a competitive pokemon team, so he became my favorite :) Uxie is cool too thought! I’m glad you liked the timbral contrast I put into this arrangement :D
I love how you took something that you've already covered and took a completely different twist on it. I like the first cover you did, having a sort of "Jazz lounge" vibe to it, but this arrangement has a lot of whimsy to it. It's been clear since you've started Year of Sinnoh the passion you have for this OST and the end results have been phenomenal with each cover. Excellent work to everyone involved and happy holidays!
All these covers you've done lately makes me more and more interested in Diamond & Pearl's soundtrack, and this one may be my personal favourite of yours. The arrangement is excellently written and performed. Wonderful work all around!
insaneintherainmusic yeah I see you your inspiration for Duke Ellington, in your harmonies. That sounds really good and sweet Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
Thank you so much for having me!! I love Christmas and I love this arrangement :D
That's you? Holy heck. Those vocals were angel like. I'm glad he got you cause it perfected the entire song
You added so much! Thanks for singing my weird “dododododododododododos” haha
Julia, you are a wonderful singer! Thanks for providing your part in this amazing piece of art!
You added so much to the song, and you made an exceptional execution. Thank you, Julia.
Amazing vocals!
I have to say, better than the original by a mile.
The decision to have a vocalist in this was genius and added so much! Let’s hope the Diamond and Pearl remake gets a lot of development time to get this level of care.
Thanks a bunch Emile! Totally agree - I hope they take as much time as possible to do the game the justice I think a remake deserves!

Merry Christmas Carlos!

Cinema Jacket Productions I’m always down for surprises!
insaneintherainmusic did my ears deceive me or did I hear a little bit of Time Gear in there?
Indeed. We have been watching his career with great interest.
The vocals give this remix so much weight, damn son
Totally, very angelic!
Someone's been practicing his flute
Very much so! I had to learn to play Donna Lee on flute for my flute doubling class haha, now that was fun!
Okay but anyone wants to talk about how majestic the harp is like omg
Apparently not cuz I'm the only reply lmao
Therapist: “aggressively yawning Carlos doesn’t exist, he can’t hurt you”

You must do EVERYTHING with enthusiasm... including yawning
Not gonna lie, first time i watched through this I thought he was just like extremely excited to play sleigh bells

Come on Pokémon just like you did with Toby Fox bring this guy over and have him compose something.
Akif Ansari might stand out too much in the game unless the whole soundtrack is by him

The intro and the denouement are amazingly wistful and playful, and the main portion feels almost sacred. I think that's exactly what encapsulates the lake trio: A divine power entrusted unto Pokemon that are a bit more mischievous than most. Definitely a favorite piece of mine, just like your last lake theme cover ^^
Happy holidays to you! I look forward to 2020's covers and originals!
Interesting! I used Azelf on a competitive pokemon team, so he became my favorite :) Uxie is cool too thought! I’m glad you liked the timbral contrast I put into this arrangement :D
Ahh I love how it turned out! Thanks so much for having me, and merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas. Really bringing me back into my feels with this one. The lake theme is my favorite in that game.
THIS IS MY FAVORITE SONG IN THE HISTORY OF POKEMON AND ITS BEAUTIFUL AND I LOVE THIS
All these covers you've done lately makes me more and more interested in Diamond & Pearl's soundtrack, and this one may be my personal favourite of yours. The arrangement is excellently written and performed. Wonderful work all around!
Thanks a lot! That’s what I’m trying to do with all these covers haha! Glad you liked my arrangement!
my guy keeps covering the best pokemon game
merry christmas king
Still so many covers left to make!
This is the best Christmas song for this year
Ah thanks! I’m personally a big fan of Ellington’s Nutcracker suite - that’s probably my favorite Christmas tune :)
insaneintherainmusic yeah I see you your inspiration for Duke Ellington, in your harmonies. That sounds really good and sweet
Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
