I was involved in the early days of the grassroots efforts to save the team and keep it in Columbus in 2017 when ownership tried to pull up stakes and leave town. It all felt like a moonshot at the time, but we weren’t about to let this team go without a fight. This place is truly special, and for a lot of us this is our family. Seeing footage like this and where we are today in 2024 as a franchise, two championships later, the scenes in the stands, on the pitch, the gorgeous facility, it really puts a lump in my throat, man. I love the series, and you should do an episode in the future going to a Liga MX game in 🇲🇽, along with these MLS games. Go to either a Chivas (🇲🇽’s most popular team), a Monterrey or Tigres game, and definitely the iconic Estadio Azteca de Club America (🇲🇽’s most successful team)!!!
The story behind it is even better. As a Columbus resident we have to drive down I-71 the major freeway to get to Cincy. Some farmer put up a billboard that says Hell is Real on it with the 10 commandments to promote the faith. Every person who has driven between the two cities has seen it, it’s been there for at least 20 years and we decided to adopt it as the name of the derby.
