7 Heavy Metallica Riffs...But They're In Drop A

- 7 of Metallica's Top Riffs! But this time they're in Drop A.
Muscle memory kicked in on Bells and I forgot to drop it 2 frets, so that's why it sounds a bit unusual! Or maybe it was deliberate....
Been a while since I did a downtuned video and now that I can play more again (finally) this seemed liked a good way to get things back up to speed.
Do you think any of the riffs sound better down tuned or do you prefer Master of Puppets to stay forever preserved in E standard?

The downtuned Master of Puppets riff sounds like it's straight off Doom (2016)'s soundtrack.
I have been listening to that quite a bit recently... maybe it got in my head subconsciously
Well it is inspired by Metallica
Master of puppets itself is sounds like E1M1 from original doom, ain’t it?

@@imlostimcommon check D.R.I - Hooked
Frantic's already in drop C, so it sounds a lot less weird, haha.
If Frantic was in Drop A it would sound heavy and brootal!
St. Anger rightly catches a lot of shit, but when they play Frantic live, it's pretty great:
ruclips.net/video/t9FLNvJf7VA/видео.html
Lol and “Invisible Kid” is lower than this. Drop G#
@@Divine_Serpent_Geh Yessir!
@@DashCat9 Absolutely loved it in Copenhagen
Downtuning isn't necessary to sound heavy, but damn, it helps
I don't think it helps... I've heard metal songs in F tuning and still sounds heavy as crap
@@alex.ann_der i need to hear this. Whats a band or song with F tuning?
@@malice2917 Vektor plays in F tuning IIRC
@@malice2917 Vektor plays in F standard. Check out “Pillars Of Sand” or “LCD (Liquid Crystal Disease)”.
@Mo A why lmao
Huh, For Whom the Bell Tolls kinda sounds kinda like a slam riff in drop A
fuel sounds so much better in drop a so does from whom the bell tolls, great video!!
Quite a few seem to like fuel down tuned. Thanks 🤘
You did not just say that
Let me guess, u're definitely a slipknot fan?😆
@@flostv623 ye hahahaa
E Standard is the boomer tuning bro, we ain't in the 1960s anymore 😤
Fuel sounds amazing in Drop A
Anything in drop a I think automatically sounds good in drop d and vice versa
Please, full cover of Fuel!
No damage inc bridge or fight fire with fire?
I need part two
I like the new perspective. Just proves that lower doesn't mean heavier necessarily.
Oh my god For Whom The Bell Tolls
Perfect like always🤘😔👏
Thank you 🤘
That was really cool
its funny most of these worked just fine but i think the lower tuning actually detracted from fuel. that song just lives in Eb for some reason and i dont know why its the odd man out. and then hardwired and puppets are both elevated. its so weird
1:27 LOL! That is unbelievably heavy
the subtitles for "Fue" helped
Very important to know the lyrics!
God damn this was awesome
I see that you only got 12k subs so imma spread the word and help out a bit
Much appreciated 🤘 🤘
@@ShadowMantraSteve you deserve more bro you really are talented
I just watched some more of your videos they r awesome
Keep up the good work
Will do 🤘
Just proves that lower tunings don't make things heavier. Technique and talent do.
Wait, Hardwired sounded hella dope 👀
of wolf and man sounds amazing
he feels it, i feel it, we feel it.
Fuel and Master, those 2 were... Dare I say it, Better than original. 😬
This is fucking awesome! Holy fucking shiiiit dude.
What is that handsome looking guitar? Fuel was amazing btw
Ibanez ART 120 i think
Ibanez Art 320. Also I agree, Fuel worked well!
How do you manage to tune down your guitar so much without having the strings going like super distensed?
thicker string gauges
@@fanceapa6355 like if im actually in 9/11/16/24/32/42 i should take something like 8....40?
Likely sets up the guitar for low tunings. Adjusting action, intimating, etc.
@@WhyAnyMurloc I use 13-68 for this tuning
@@WhyAnyMurloc I got 14-74 gauge strings on mine for drop A and lower
Fuel is 🔥
And what I desire
This is the thing that should be.. 🤘😁
Wooooooww 🔥🔥🔥🔥
the unnamed feeling from st anger is actually in drop A
Finaly i found a Person with same guitar as i have. 💪.
Bellz sounded like a Doom Metal song in drop A.
Fuel definitely sounded like Slipknot song.
Whoa...
Frantic sounded better in drop A; Master Of Puppets itself always sounds best in the original tuning, but your version sounded damn heavy too, but different.
Master of Puppets sounds a bit like This Cold Black or Everything Ends by Slipknot
Ok for whom the bell tolls sounds sick in drop A
Sounds mean!!!! Love it
killer tone. reminds of swedish dm
Fuel sounds like Venom if they tuned even lower.
Great.
Thank you 🤘
@@ShadowMantraSteve You're welcome.
Sad but true
holy fuck you should make full cover of Master of Puppets in A. That is badass
His face says it all
Blackened in drop a would be so damn heavy
Why drop A and not A standard
Mean Sir 🤘❤
Thank you 🤘
Why did you play for whom the bell tolls melody in major key ?!
Muscle memory took over and I forgot to drop it down a couple of frets, but it sounds kind of interesting so I'm taking it as a happy mistake
This is what Metallica on steroids would sound like. Greetings from Poland. 😁🤘
Still not low enough for invisible kid ( drop g# )
i just love facial expressions
Fun
Master of Puppets sounds like something off of doom
dooms e1m1 was based off that song
@@sethbowden1111 nice
The songs that are not from their first 4 albums don't fit at well but songs from other albums sound so much better!!! Fuel in A Standard is like a whole new song
ok ngl i thought it would sound bad being in such a low tuning
boy was i wrong :p
Metallica’s sound into Seringai 🤘🏽
Tc see yeah then
Hard Slayer Wired
Wait how did you get to play Puppetz to sound like that without using 3rd and 4th fret? im struggling with that as a beginner. don't mind using an alternate way.
It's because I played it in a drop tuning so everything on the 5th string moves back two frets. For example a normal power chord in a standard tuning would be 3rd fret on the low 6th string and the 5th fret on the next string, when you drop the tuning of the low string you simply bar both notes on the 3rd fret to play a power chord. Essentially everything's Ng on the 5th string shifts back 2 frets. This meant it instead of 2,3,4 on the 5th string I could play 0,1,2. It's not the 'correct way' but worked for the video.
Definitely look at songs in drop d though to get some idea of how it shifts the notes about a bit on the low strings.
@@ShadowMantraSteve So nice for you to give such detailed answers to such simple questions.
I don’t want to discourage you, but you need to look for other songs to play rather than Master of Puppets if you are a beginner. You will get there eventually with enough practice.
@@ShadowMantraSteve Ah aye that does make sense! thanks for clarifying it and keep it up! good stuff as usual.
@@ugur7227 yeah no i get it! i have started trying it, not really expecting to play it properly but started to get a feel for it as i practice easier stuff. like today i played Aerials from SOAD, that was a lot of fun. still sounds bad but it does sound like the song a bit so im happy =)) its my 3rd week.
Constant stank face! 👿🔥
Metallica should release Master of Puppets in drop A... Original is intensely awesome... Drop A adds a new dimension....
Where the power chords at tho
Drop tuning so I can play them with one finger 👍
The Thing That Should Not Be-
Slipknot
damn, I don't think he quite got Kirk's melody on "For Whom" in the right key. It sounds like an Irish jig over chugs.
Muscle memory kicked in and I didn't drop it 2 frets to match the drop tuning. But it turned out kind of interesting!
If Master Of Puppets was on St. Anger
Fwtbt sounds like sugar by soad.
Yeah I can hear that, it's got a similar descending riff and tempo
Yes exactly. Appreciate your work dude! Have a good weekend!
Frantic Metalcore edition
Some of those riffs sound like Electric Wizard.
six feet under already have done this with some metallica songa lol
Its so bad and I love it
this is what Heartwork-era Carcass sounds like
Alternate title: metallica but it’s slipknot
Basically, what Metallica would sound like if they got signed in 2010.
Why does it slightly sound like it could be a slipknot song, maybe 2004 to 2008 or in between then (first song)
Metallica wouldn't have been signed & wouldn't be popular if they formed in 2010.
At the begging it actually sounds like Muse Hysteria
@@Graphey_ i thought that aswell. I’m pretty sure a lot of slipknot songs are in Drop A tuning so that’s why.

Fuck it does
It's scary how close it is
When Metallica was trying to play nu metal
Fuel Ends
and the face expressions strike again
But of course!
How else do you play metal?

@@metalkicker23 Even Putin knows what's up.
Fuel sounded like it could be a Slipknot song 😂🤘🏻
The start of it sounded like before i forget
With crappy drums
Master of Puppets in Drop A gives me full blown Mick Gordon/Doom 2016 vibes
Rip and tear, until it is done
Now add some guttural vocals and you have successfully turned Metallica into a death metal band. It would be called Brutallica btw.
Mortallica
Bruh-tallica.
add some clean vocals at the chorus, and a breakdown and you got Metallicacore
@@3badthebad Chemicallica
Brutallica sounds badass ngl
Seems muscle memory overtook during Bells and I forgot to shift the melody down 2 frets, so if it sounds a bit happier/unusual that's why. Good spot by Andy J 👍
Also, as most of the tracks aren't played in a drop tuning normally they may look a bit unusual when played. Everything on all strings except the lowest gets shifted 2 frets lower and that means a lot of shuffling around for some riffs!
I only saw your comment after I had typed out mine regarding the same thing.
Deleted it right after, though.
it sounded cool as shit tho
What guitar is that? I have an ARZ800. Yours looks like it has a better bridge and upgraded pickups- same headstock but different emblem. Great video as well!

Hardwired is extremely underrated in this tuning.
Your beard looks like Hetfield's beard from like 96 haha
Of Wolf and Man is underrated imo
I love that song.
Metallica's riffs in drop A sound like old Carcass in times of "Heartwork" album. Meat juice, guys
Metallica is such a good band name I wish I’d come up with it. It’s curt enough to sound awesome and written so everyone who hears it knows exactly what to expect when picking it up.
Hardwired sounds like it needs to be on the Repentless album!
01:40 Major melody above the b||| power chord - very rare event in music. I remember 2 such a moments: Michael Brecker solo (with Steps Ahead), S.Prokofiev Romeo&Jul;

Love this, drop A is my standard and Metallica translates well. Good tones how did you get them? Also slight criticism i think you were a couple of frets off on the lead line for Whom the bell tolls.
Thank you, I use the Le456 amp sim and it was a blend of diesel and a gods cab impulse. Just checked and you're right. I think muscle memory kicked in on the lead line and I forgot to shift it down two frets to match the drop tuning! Still works just about...just sounds a bit happier haha

Amazing tone for a sim. Tech has come so far. Cheers for the reply brother.
Weird. I was just thjinking today of goofing around with "for whom the bell tolls" in drop tuning. awesome stuff like always! it gives everything a bit of a different sounds
Thank you 🤘 I enjoy messing around with tunings. Interesting to see what other bands they sound similar too.
You should do all of Frantic! The part RIGHT after you stopped is nice and heavy \m/
I just keep hearing Dez Fafara's voice over all of these.
haha BW SWAY DE SWAY, BWH SWAY DE SWAY

Fuel sounds suprisingly better this way!!!!
I think I'd have to agree
I was wondering how you were gonna play the master verse riff. This makes me wanna pull out my 7 string( tuned down to 9 string) and jam to some drumtracks lol sounds beasty man
It wasn't to bad shifting it to a drop tuning really. Definitely should give it a go 🤘
For whom bell tolls could be a deathcore song if you added a blast beat
Second part of Hardwired reminded me of Repentless from Slayer
