My first copy of Reason 2 was cracked and I probably would never of started making music had My friend at the time gave Me that. They are fully aware that most people started with a cracked copy.
I was very surprised they left that bit in there. I’m from South Africa and it’s very difficult to have enough money to buy anything, let alone software in this part of the world. As a youngster, I started on a cracked version of Reason 4 in 2008 and bought Reason 9 when I started working some years ago and upgraded to every new version since then and currently on 12. I’ve also purchased countless rack extensions and creative players over the years. It all started with me on the cracked version and I’m now a locked in customer. #ReasonGang
@@quamb Absolutely, until they are established musicians are some of the poorest amongst us, and even when "established" it is a fine line between success and poverty. I have been using cracked software since 1985 and the beginning of MIDI. If you make money and don't buy the software then shame on you.
That bit at the end there, FutzBox RE with Sim enabled on default settings. I use it on almost all my songs to get some of my vocals sounding like they're coming from a crappy transistor radio. Gives amazing contrast compared to the full vocals, makes them hit even harder when they come in. Huge recommendation right there. Also, massive props for acknowledging that beginners start out on cracked software instead of just sweeping it under the rug. I started out on a cracked copy of Reason 5 in 2013 and asked my parents for a legit copy of Reason 7 as a Christmas present the very same year. I remember being so hyped for it I was watching the announcement trailer over and over again. I wonder how many great producers wouldn't even be making music today if it weren't for them starting out on cracked software.
Really great vibes, and Reason not getting in the way of the musical flow! And nice to hear someone point out that once you start digging rare records you realise how much old music isn't on the internet or even digitised.
I'm sure most of it was available online a decade ago , before WhatCD was taken down. Broke my heart to see it go -- It was like the library of Alexandria of music. By far the world's largest repository of music, dwarfing Apple/Spotify and the rest; Collectors and record store owners and employees around the world would rip their Vinyls, CDs and other media and post it there. I got 5 TB archived before it was raided, just a drop in the bucket.
Feels like #rhythmroulette and a nod to the dope Reason users that know sample flipping is more than just adding drums to a loop. Thanks for the showcase.
A "lazy chop" function for mimic would be a game changer! Mimic is my main chopping tool. I have been loving it and I feel like with a few tweaks it could be THE BEST ONE ☺
This video reminds me of a feature request I had for Mimic! I'd love to see an update that incorporates the MPC "lazy chop" feature where you can tap in the slice points as the sample plays, maybe by way of tapping a key or pad. Great stuff!
This was really dope. Loved his energy from the start so I knew I was in store for a great watchz made 17mins feel like a 30min documentary slash feature. Gained a new fan 👍🏾
After watching this video, 😢 I need to go get my studio back right. So many kids lived this life and still do. When the music don't support those hungry mouths tho is when you see the decline in engineering and beat production. Man this video is the best video of 2023
I know a producer that was a killer with making beats years ago and I think he does till this day use Reason. I use Reason as a sound patch in Ableton. I love the Chronic Bass and Radical Piano!!!
It’s cool that there’s beat makers who sample records. However, me personally, I’ve always preferred to compose the melodies as I also play piano. Boom Bap will always be irreplaceable!
Been getting busy with Mimic since it came out pretty much. It is fire. So easy to drag loops into the sequencer, stretch to grid. Right click and bounce to new song samples. drag to mimic and always on beat. few seconds for lush chops basically
I got a cracked version of Reason ages ago too when I first started trying to record my music, except I had 4. I had to buy Reason 5 as soon as it came out because I could record my guitar with it, bought every other version ever since. Wouldn't surprise me if a lot of more modern producers have a similar story of starting out with a cracked version.
Great and inspiring video, thanks a lot for that! I worked with Reason for many years since version 5, but switched to Ableton during pandemic and honestly not looking back much. Mimic is really nice tho, feels like Ableton Simpler with some extra perks. That's so good Reason rack can work as VST now. CPU consumption could be more optimized tho.
This kind of makes me wonder why there's no virtual MPC in Reason. If I had to guess Kong was kind of close, but it wasn't very workable as a sampler like Mimic, even the NX- sampler was kind of hassle. I'm glad with Reason 12, jumped from Reason 5 to years later 12 and it has much improved.
@@HOLLASOUNDS A good sampler allows you to chop the sample. I believe Rex doesn't have that feature, and also they must be converted to Rex files.
