Bn, I truly appreciated your well-reasoned and thorough assessment of both these bags, and I need you to know that my experience has precisely duplicated yours. In my case, I have the F-Stop Shinn for heavy-duty hiking and camping, but when I'm out just photographing and I don't need camping gear, multiple changes of clothes, or the heaviest of tripods, I love just running with the Mindshift 36L. I've attached two of the ThinkTank lens pouches to the waist-belt of my 36L so that, with the camera on a Black Rapid strap, I actually can access three lenses very quickly without even swinging the bag around, but it's just so nice to be able to swing it around without laying it down and access absolutely everything. Thank you again for your awesome review, and please keep them coming!

Yes, thank you for presenting this video series. I am also currently deciding between these 2 bags. My typical travel is on smaller regional jets and I think I'll value the ability to easily yank out the delicate guts to gate-check the outer shell if required. Think that's the route I'm headed. Your side-by-side comparison was extremely helpful for me. I think you're the first to do it. Thanks again for your efforts!

Pär Ohlson ...I’m glad that the video helped you make an informed buying decision. I made it just for that reason because I needed information like that before buying and just couldn’t find any out there other than the vids from Mindshift. Enjoy your bag!

In my case it was between the Shimoda and the Mindshift. Unfortunately the F-stop bags are hard to purchase in Sweden.

BN, thank you for this timely and informative review. Just this week I was looking for comparisons between the Mindshift and F-Stop bags. Your three-part series was perfect for the comparisons I needed. I like the depth of the camera compartment in the Mindshift 36 L. Gripped DSLR bodies fit well without extending above the zippered edge. Supertelephoto lenses also fit without the lens hoods bulging beyond the zippered edge. The extra depth also allowed me to fit larger prime lenses and wide angles zoom lenses face down instead of lengthwise. Thus, I could fit more cameras and lenses in the Mindshift 36L than in the Tilopa, even with the extra large ICU. The Tilopa is a rugged versatile pack designed for the mountain environment but the ICU is not as deep as the compartment in the Mindshift 36 L. Both are excellent bags designed for different use environments. The Tilopa is better suited for use in inclement weather, long hikes, and general use in mountain environments.

Aye, Sir! you're very welcome. This video was the type that I was looking for when I was trying to decide between bags as well. I didn't find any, so I decided to make one. It may not be the most suave production, but I believe that I get my points across adequately enough. I hope that you enjoy your purchase no matter which one that you went with. By the way....which one did you end up purchasing?

I already own the Tilopa and a I’m looking seriously at the Mindshift 36L and 45L bags.

how deep can you put something in there standing up like the 70-200, im wanting to see if the new flashpoint ad300pro flash could stand upright inside of one, I know it would be tight but im not sure, the flash is 7.5in tall.

Bn Zeaux for sure I have a ton of stuff in my think tank bag, only want to know what can fit standing up tho it’s 7.09 deep and the ad300 is 7.5 seems like I should be able to smush their bag shut a little bit. I def can do that with my think tank like a half inch.

The backlight elite 45L would've been more comparable to the Tilopa than the 36l backlight.
