Single pin movable sights have been around for a very long time. Back in the 80's when they came out a lot of us went to them. After a situation just like yours, we mostly switched back. They pretty much disappeared for years and then one company in particular started spending a bundle on marketing them. A lot of the younger guys here local went to them. Now most that I know have switched back to multipin. All it takes is missing a wall hanger to make a fad go away. I really enjoyed your video. Very different terrain than what we have here in FL.
It’s all about practice and execution. And about the Hunter. I used the wrong pin on a multi pin sight and missed a buck and switched after that and never went back. Some guys hunt with long bows with no sights.
I went from multi pin to single and have been worried about this happening since I switched. I have one setting that will hit the bullseye for 0-25 yards which is great and covers almost all my shots. Don’t like to shoot over 30. I just enjoy the clear sight picture. I’m sure at some point I will go back to multipin
So what about those of us who have missed good deer due to using the wrong pin in the moment of truth? Single pin is awesome but just like anything else you gotta be focused.
I just got back Sunday from a WV mountain hunt. I'm from North Carolina and hunt in relatively flat terrain, so west virginia hills were just not something I'm used to. Aside from being sixty three years of age, I was carrying in a very heavy climbing stand, so the hunt was very challenging. But I loved it. One of the best hunts I've ever been on. Without giving away your secrets, can you tell me if you were in southern or northern west virginia. The area where you were hunting looked even steeper than where I was.
This season will be my first deer season , I’m 19 and I’m self teaching myself everything , and the deerwise would be beyond helpful and would take my hunting to the next level. Crazy video and thanks for giving me something to watch when I don’t have the chance to be in the woods
Congratulations 🍾 Kirk on an awesome public land buck 🦌 in West “By God” Virginia. That was heart ❤️ poundingly exciting. I love hunting from the ground even though I bought a Tethrd tree 🌳 saddle set up late last summer, but never used it. One of the reasons why I enjoy hunting from the ground is in your face encounters like that one.
@@sj1roese I set mine to 25yds. and practice out to 35 with it set to 25, then after a while you know just where to hold. Only do the gap shooting method just for an emergency like you had. Works great!
I’m a big fan of untamed! I got hooked when I found the spot and stalk whitetail hunts in WV. I’m a young kid from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Lots of big woods around here
Awesome deer and great hunt. I agree with you on using a heavier arrow. More weight more energy. As for micro adjustable sights. Definitely wanna use 4-5 pin for hunting.
I hunted a few times in Wardensville, WVA but nothing like them hills Kirk running up and down…people that don’t the hills of WVA don’t know the pressure them bucks get but it’s fun to watch and know the work you guys put into it each year to bring us some awesome videos
Love all of your WV hunting footage. The area you’re hunting in this video reminds me of a reclaimed area that I hunted in McDowell County back in the 80’s.
Heck yeah ur in the right place for giants!! Ik pretty much exactly where ur at but I ain’t gonna expose it. We got 3500 acres right around there and we got some studs dude!! Great deer
Congrats Kirk, Great Public Land buck and that’s definitely a story you’ll never forget. Y’all picked a good spot to wait on the bucks coming out of that area, redemption on the second shot!
Watch all of your videos while sitting in a high school classroom when I can’t be in the stand. Always have to be learning something if you want to be successful!
Caught u guys on the THP Indiana public land challenge..iam subscribe now.i had knee surgery and can't hunt.so I've been watching u all kill bears and whitetails....great vids thanks.
Two days in a row I’ve watched you miss a shot😂 happens to the best of us, that’s why I got back off the 1 pin method. Went to a 7 pin, seems to help a lot in those situations.
Yep I totally agree. I just left a comment saying the exact same thing. Single pin dial in sites might be good for 3D but not so much for bowhunting. Also as Kirk admitted that he needs to beef up his arrows as well.
@@mohunter68 3 pin sliders are my favorite and to many hunters that do all kinds of hunting like spot and stalking out west, blinds or stands it’s the best, not as much clutter as 5 or 7 pins but you can still have most yardages taken care of and if he’s further you should have time to dial. My single pin got taken off the first year I hunted with it.
Congrats Kirk! Stud of a buck for sure. I gotta get up there and get in on some of that West Virginia open country action. I think it’s a lot more like hunting out west which is way more my style than hunting tree stands like I have to here in GA.
Get you some Vector customs. I’m at 650 grains total with a 125 grain kudu, 70 lb at 28 inch draw on a VXR 28. These arrows zip through deer like hot butter. Getting more penetration into the ground after pass throug than my old arrows like yours did into deer and hogs.
"Country road, Indiana, did me wrong. I'm In the Place, I belong! West Virginia, Rut is on! This drag is long, but He, is coming Home...West Virginia? Mountain Brother! Welcome Home, Country Bro!"🤣🤣
I hunt Boone county on some of the strips out there . Won’t say any names just in case u guys hunt the same places ! But me and my brother did a spot and stalk on a 130 inch 10 point
The broad head fails you need a tougher broadhead if your going to a heavier arrow I recommend shooting sirus archery and the new magnus single bevels and get rid of that single pin sight almost cost you a great deer!

If his sight was set on 30-35 yards he still would have made a decent hit at that range. He choked, plain and simple. We've all been there.

@@mjh1783 Ive used a single pin for 13 years. I'll never go back to multi. Just my preference.
The Untamed gets me through the days of setting in a college classroom instead of a stand!
It’s sitting. Stay in there.
😂 hunting beast, untamed, the hunting public and catman get me through long high school days.
I’m amazed at the terrain you guys hunt in there in W Virginia! You need to be part goat to get around!!! 😂 Nice deer too Kirk! Congratulations 🎉🍾🎈🎊
Josh and Kirk, keep grinding, be patient love y’all’s videos keep them coming be safe tks
Love watching the challenges you guys goes thru, as a WV hunter myself it gives me hope
Same here man! I’m on my way to Ohio right now to hopefully kill a giant!!

Fellow WV hunter here! Slammed my first buck with a bow 2 weeks ago in the WV woods!
Kirk, this is the 2nd buck you've missed due to that single pin set up. Scrap it.
Single pin is the bomb, but you gotta keep that bad boy set all the way down all the time.
@@sj1roese I set mine to 25yds. and practice out to 35 with it set to 25, then after a while you know just where to hold. Only do the gap shooting method just for an emergency like you had. Works great!

You guys are my favorite hunting channel ever. I hunt in WV too, and cannot believe the bucks y’all are shooting. Crazy
Man, what a hunt, Krik getting it done! Love that you don't put a dead deer in the thumbnail so its a mystery to what happens.
Awesome deer and great hunt. I agree with you on using a heavier arrow. More weight more energy. As for micro adjustable sights. Definitely wanna use 4-5 pin for hunting.
I can't believe that buck put up with all that and still hung around!
Kirk.....it looked like you were praying over the bear poop ! GREAT video

I keep saying the hunting public and Dan Infalt need to do a public land challenge in West Virginia! Sweet buck!
Heck yes
Love all of your WV hunting footage. The area you’re hunting in this video reminds me of a reclaimed area that I hunted in McDowell County back in the 80’s.
Thank you!

Glad to see hunt in West Virginia where I was born.
Awesome hunt guys . Really enjoyed the indiana public land challenge I actually hunt around where you guys were
That was some of the coolest footage I’ve seen. Love y’all’s ground hunts, keep em coming 👊
Ooooh men that’s a nice Buck right there 🦌🦌
Congrats Kirk, Great Public Land buck and that’s definitely a story you’ll never forget. Y’all picked a good spot to wait on the bucks coming out of that area, redemption on the second shot!
Your videos never cease to amaze me. Y'all just chase them down
You guys are on of my favorite you tube hunting channels
That first shot is exactly why I don't use a single pin sight. Congrats on the great buck! I can't believe you got a second shot off on him.
Leave mine set at 25 usually good flat out to 30. Anything further I’ll have time to adjust..
I’m definitely going away from it. It’s nice to shoot at a target with but in hunting situations it just doesn’t seem to work for me.
Went to a 3 pin....20,30, and 40. Seems to work best in hunting situations. In the south not many shots past 40 yds
I bet that was a heck of a drag out! Awesome buck! I live in Mason County and those rolling hills gets me every time!
Great job Untamed!! Keep WV proud.
Beautiful country to hunt. Fun to watch.
Watch all of your videos while sitting in a high school classroom when I can’t be in the stand. Always have to be learning something if you want to be successful!
Love you watching you all. Most of what you hunt me a lot like the mountains here in Ky that I hunt!
Love watching some WV boys getting it done here at home and all across the states.
I don't do Instagram. Love your show. Shout out to West Virginia hunters.
I hunt Tennessee
Great hunt! Glad to hear more whitetail content will be coming. I enjoy watching your channel!
Thanks!!
Caught u guys on the THP Indiana public land challenge..iam subscribe now.i had knee surgery and can't hunt.so I've been watching u all kill bears and whitetails....great vids thanks.
Hunting from the ground is a lot of fun but very intense with bow and close range. Another great video, keep up the good work!
