So true. This is the wave I’m on too! I just love making Lofi and Meditation music and visuals. It feels good to hear and see what was once in my head be brought to life on RUclips
A tip that’s been helping me slowly grow my channel is turning off “Publish/notify subscribers” prior to uploading video. If you publish to notify subscribers and none of your subscribers are watching, RUclips/algorithm is going to think it’s a bad video and stops promoting it. Get the real data from non subscribers and it can potentially increase your views as well as getting more subscribers to your channel
I wonder if a way to curb this mentality is to just remove the "view count" from the video until you click on it. That way it almost levels the playing field in a way.
I love watching small creators, so half of my youtube feed has less than 1k views. I have no qualms about the algorithm because it shows small channels to people who are interested in small channels. Its kind of fun finding up and coming creators, like finding a good indie artist or game.
Watching smaller channels has its own pleasure because they are not perfect, and this imperfection even attracts us more. We feel more related and close to the creator, and this is fascinating.
That's my issue currently they don't have notifications on and one of them turned notifications off. I recently slowed down uploading to 3 days a week and the new ones don't even turn on notifications it's frustrating
@@ResidentHero Yes! It's inspiring and interesting to see other perspectives. I appreciate the creativity and energy of those starting out. I'm only a bit further on the path myself. We sort of have our 'small channel' tribe, don't we :)
Yes, I quite often click on videos with only 10 or 20 views in my browse / suggestions, if I see one with millions of views, I generally ignore them especially if they are from the 'big creators'. Really glad that the algorithm doesn't suggest any of those to my feed

From what I learned about RUclips overall is that just when you think you know all the answers, they change all the questions. And I've been around since 2007 here.
I started watching VidIQ when I was at 204 subscribers. What you teach helps and I appreciate you guys for it. If you're a 200 sub channel, just keep learning.
I dont think that algortihm ignoring us small youtubers i just think that it take some time to push it to the right public. Someone will be a bit lucky and get that "one" viral video sooner but i think at the end if you keep posting and be consistent, you will make it.. Lets see what happens, hope all of you out there make it 💪🙌
I check my analytics and Only my new videos get promoted and new views, anything more than 3 months old stagnate and get no action at all... The algorithm literally ignores them.
I fully believe it's the audience not the algorithm but the only time this doesn't make sense is when there are LOW IMPRESSIONS for a video with great CTR and retention.
@@TheKeystoneChannel removing subs usually happens when they clear out bots and inactive accounts. Video removal is due to violating terms. That's different than just not having the impressions.
1:20 The big solution is not to show the number of views, like other platforms! Because if I don't know that this is a small channel, and if the thumbnail and title are attractive, I will definitely click to watch the video!! Without thinking.. 🤔🙃
I have a question about a RUclips channel that has 260,000 subscribers and whose videos were approaching a million views each month. However, about a month ago, the viewing numbers dropped dramatically to around 7,000, and yesterday the channel owner announced they would stop producing content. Other channels that create content in the same niche continue to receive significantly higher views, even those with only 15,000 subscribers are getting many more views than the channel with 260,000 subscribers. My question is, why did this channel suddenly experience such a decline? Why would the algorithm seemingly place a shadow ban on the channel? While RUclips does not officially recognize the concept of a shadow ban, I can't find any other explanation for this situation.
It's pretty nice to have it acknowledged that just by being a small channel and not getting many views automatically makes it less likely for you to get views in general unless your video is a 1 in 1 million kind of good. Damn you human psychology.
Does basically confirm that My 10 year old small channel even if the videos get way better, I will be ignored by this RUclips team because Im not a new channel. Basically black listing My channel?

VidIQ: We just scored your thumbnail, title, and description a 96/100. Me: YT is totally ignoring my SEO and not pushing my content at my NICHE AUDIENCE when they search for it. Critics: YT algorithm pays no attention to SEO, it's your content that is bad. Me: how the hell does an algorithm know my content is any worse than someone else's, it literally cannot watch it to compare it to a video that is AMSR! YT: we need the metadata from your titles and thumbnails to decide where to place your content... Also YT: When someone searches for The No Dig Gardener by name we're going to pretend you don't exist, and will literally show channels with absolutely NOTHING to do with gardening, let alone no dig, rather than suggest your channel even has content. Go ahead, tell me again about this small channel promotion thing, because I'd love to see it in action.
@@Joltverse Thanks for doing the test, and proving that, at least on this, I'm not going mad 😁 The constant "RUclips is perfect, you're the problem" passive aggressive attitude of some is getting rather tedious, and I suppose a huge part of why many people quit.
@@Joltverse wow, that somebody would be interested enough to fo this for another person is astounding. You would think that this channel would have been interested enough to do things like this for their viewers and subscribers in light of the kind of channel they are. The algorithm does not know what it does anymore. Maybe there are too much information that needs refinement thinking that the algorithm can't do. Or information overload. I am frustrated with what I observe the algorithm is doing and it is destroying some channels and their livelihood for no particular reason at all. Maybe RUclips should really start listening to the problems that are being pointed out and fix it. Stop thinking that nothing can go wrong with a computer program and always blame it on the people. Algorithm: I know of a channel that has over 400K subscribers. This is what this channel is about. 3 Roosters without names. What is shown everyday: the 3 roosterd crowing 2 - 3min videos. That is it. No education value. No search term. No editing. Nothing else to see. Why? Because the algorithm wants a channel to be about one thing. This creator played the algorithm game and Success!!. This is ludecrous if this is the direction the algorithm sends channels in and promotes. Then there are channels where the creators work so hard, beautiful channels and they are stuck to the point of throwing in the towel because of the algorithm. Time to take note RUclips and do something about it.
@@thenodiggardener you can change the name of your channel without effecting anything else. Maybe try that. I was thinking about changing my name and read about it. If you do not have the blue tick whick I think you get at 100K subscribers nothing gets effected.
@@SonetLandman I'm The No Dig Gardener absolutely everywhere else too, but the whole point of this is not just this channel here, but that it's actually linked to the website I've also been building to go with it. Rather than me having to change absolutely everything across multiple platforms, and spend money buying a new domain name in the hope that YT may acknowledge my channel name exists, it would help if YT just sorted out its biased algorithm. Because what if I changed my channel name, and they still refused to place my channel in the search results, let alone first as it should be.
Very. Well. Said. Social Proof is a big reason why people choose one video over another, regardless of quality. Also love the point you said where time is limited and is now a precious commodity, so people will choose what's already been proven, ie, a video with 100k views over one with 1k views. All this to say is, for new creators like myself, title, thumbnail and great content is what will get the ball rolling.

@ItsDreamArt18 agreed. They tell us to look at the algorithm as viewers but if the viewers are viewing then this does not stand. I'm still doing mainly shorts but going to long for soon.
If RUclips cared about new creators, they would do some pretty obvious things. 1) Remove public displays of "Views" 2) Remove public displays of channel "Subscribers". Those two publicly available metrics seriously impact new creators. Do you watch videos with no other views or a channel that has minimal subscriber count? It really would help level the playing field.
Yes, I do, in fact. I'm watching for content, not watching because of view count or sub count. That doesn't make sense. If it's good content, I'm watching. If not, I'm clicking off.

There should be one day a month that they hide all video's view counts. That would let small channels gain some traction while them small view numbers are hidden
One of the biggest problems that I have seen with the area that I work in is that Entertainment channels will deliberately list themselves as educational channels to manipulate and game the algorithm. It's very easy to spot and very clear because a true educational channel within my field, has an entirely different tempo and pace. I have seen this dozens of times over and over. Unfortunately, I don't know what can be done about it simply because of the subjectiveness of educational content and that fine line that separates education versus entertainment.
The grind is definitely on. Do not give up. I'm in university right now and started this channel under 2 weeks ago and nearly at 50. What I'm doing is basically not having the social proof aspect to my videos and that is mainly through shorts. Once the sub count increases, long form will then be introduced to be less effected by social proof. YOU CAN DO IT, don't give up
I see these small channels on my home page all the time but rarely click on them as they’re nothing like what I’d usually search for. I guess the same applies to my tiny channel so I can’t complain while learning the ropes
Maybe I am just old fashioned (I have been watching RUclips since about 2008), but I have been clicking on videos regardless of the view count. If the title and/or thumbnail intrigues me, I'm going to click on it.
I’m happy to have a pretty active viewer base for as small a channel I am. I’m 1800subs and whenever I post I instantly get probably like 100-250 views in a few hours so the algorithm pushes me to the 1-5K view range each vid.
I’ve been trying to get my first 100 subscribers for about 2 months now, but I think it is important to upload as many videos as you can, without forgetting about the good quality. Kind of difficult when you have a full time job and a wife 😅😅😅
I think one of the broader problems the algorithm DOES create is that it (maybe not intentionally) rewards "copy catting" of a proven video. This is seen in every niche. All the copycats to Mr Beast as an example. By doing this creates an echo chamber of sorts that thwarts creativity and buries small channels at the same time as a consequence.
Keep uploading keep grinding. Practice makes perfect. Make a folder of videos so that after someone watches your videos RUclips can recommend them your other videos.
I just started a YT channel 45 days ago! If the YT Alg is not blocking the growth of small channels, why all my 60 short videos always get ±450 views?! My Niche: AR animals/dinosaurs mixed with Real wildlife in the African Savanna, all filmed live in the Masai Mara. It does not matter if Viewed vs. Swiped Away of my short videos is 30% or 85% • I always get ±450 views! And it does not matter if Average View Duration is 70% or 160% * I always get ±450 views • Small channels do not have a chance...
I agree it is up to you as the creator to make interesting content to gain views/subscribers. The algorithm=audience. The point that seems to get passed over is RUclips has thousands upon thousands of small channels that are not monetized that creates thousands of hours of FREE entertainment for RUclips. Imagine writers, actors and producers in Hollywood working for free. Hoping to someday make money. Yet movie/show is put out to the networks or the movies making money hand over fist.

Something I’ve noticed is when I’m looking to learn certain things on RUclips I focus less on how many views the video has and more on the length of the video. I’m more reluctant to watch a 10 minute video to learn something if someone else has a 4 minute video teaching me the same thing
As a small channel myself, I am actually watching the small channels if I come across them in my feed. Because Im also small and also want to grow, so if my view can help him grow then Im willing to do it. Some of them are actually very good.

The interesting thing is that you SEO your description and have a clear title and thumbnail, and then you search on youtube in incognito window for the terms and youtube suggest like 5 videos on the topic and it is not your video and then it start spamming with like 20+ videos that have nothing to do with what you just searched for. The video is there, the video is new, the video contains the exact search words but youtube still doesn't suggest it through search. I would like to know why that is because it shows that what they are saying about SEO description, make good title and thumbnail is not the answer, there must be something else too that they do not mention.
I’ve gotten so discouraged this past week because I had almost 20 views on several videos, which is terrible but whatever. I’m trying. Anyways, RUclips has taken all of those views away. I have several that I know people have watched all the way through and added several hours to my watch time and it all got taken away. I have comments from those people on the videos. I’m almost to the point of giving up at it. My content isn’t great anyways. My editing sucks, and I don’t really have the time to work on learning it anymore. I started doing this because I enjoyed it, but I wanted to make it successful. It isn’t happening, and I don’t enjoy it anymore. I sit there for hours dreading making a video because that’s hours of my own time that I have to spend for barely any views, then YT takes them away anyways. Sorry for the rambling and ranting. Just kinda frustrated.
Honestly most of the time that 1 unpopular video I find looks significantly worse than the popular videos it's surrounded by. The one time it's actually good, though, it might blow up if the creator is lucky.
The main problem for my channel is trying to get the subscribers I’ve gained recently, to watch my new videos that I post. It’s like every new subscriber I got isn’t getting notified for my videos or they don’t return to my channel. I’m going to continue to grow my channel and hopefully can reach a broader audience but I’ll keep going by making videos and I will continue to grind💪🏽‼️.
Just installed the vidIQ plugin a few days ago - wow... why didn't I do this sooner?? It's fantastic. I've (re)edited all my titles and descriptions using the "Optimize Score" suggestions. Getting more traffic now. Thank you!
Guys, i think people in the RUclips communities especially content creators , just want quick fixes. There are no shortcuts in life, things are build on a foundation. People are expecting to get millions of subscribers and views overnight and that’s not how things works. They always want to blame the RUclips algorithm. Did you know mr beast took him 3 years to get 1000 subscribers, do you think he just got 255+ million subscribers in just 3 days ? No , it was hard work of grind. Allow your RUclips channel to grow organically even if it takes you years to reach 100k subs, keep grinding and stop expecting quick fix methods. Not only niches are going to make you a million subscribers.
I think 1 issue no one really considers if the amount of people making videos probably trumps the amount of views An example would be 100 creators all make a video, if they are all trying to get 1k thats 100k people that need to see that content. Thats a unrealistic number. The chances of our content being seen is abysmal
💯 % Rob... people saying any algorithm is against them is a cop out. I used to play online poker semi professionally... same in that space. People think the poker site algorithm is against them... why would it be against you? It comes down to learning the game, be it poker or youtube. Seriously, spend more time watching YT education like VidIq and be committed or don't bother having a channel.
I often look at other small channels in my niche. I can learn a lot from small creators to see what they are doing well and where I think they are making mistakes. It's easier to critique smaller creators because the errors are more obvious. The big creators with teams make everything look so smooth and easy, and then I can only look at my work and try to figure out where I need to improve.
the wierd thing for me as a small channel is that the video that i didn't thought are that good performed really good while some from which i had high expectations had terrible performance xD
Hi, I believe I’m facing a serious issue. I usually don’t watch my own short videos, but last week, I accidentally clicked on one of my shorts and ended up watching it until the end. Recently, I’ve encountered a problem where my own videos are being recommended to me, even in the shorts feed. I’m concerned about the negative impact this might have. Additionally, I’ve noticed a decrease in my view count. Could you please offer me some advice? Please
Honestly, I just stop caring about the algorithm and started uploading shorts and videos about any idea I get at the moment of my gaming content. I’m gonna keep doing it till I get the right audience. Good luck to everyone!
The fact is, many of my my RUclips videos will not even come up on search, even if I hit every key word of my video title. Even if it does, it comes up at the bottom, under many other videos that are not even relevant.
Even if I get pushed, if they see that I only have a few views, they won't click it, even if it had a decent thumbnail and Title or Idea. SOCIAL PROOF is a THING!
It's encouraging to hear that RUclips is actively working to identify and support audiences for new creators! 🌟 Focusing on creating compelling content that resonates with potential viewers can significantly improve a channel's visibility, regardless of its size.
Just want to give a massive thanks for highlighting 4:40 sequence to the end. Inserts from Todd and Mario were excellent, their insight is valuable. Viewers are people, creators are people, at the end of the day, it's a giant community of people. We are the ones that trigger the algorithm that makes certain videos/creators to go viral, earn that social proof. I'm glad this video exists, and I hope more people actually watch this. I forgot to add, I did the test at the beginning. Sadly, I only had 2 videos out of the entire home page. I did 3 sessions, they were all only 2. However, first session, it was mostly subs. Second, less from subs, more random channels, but still lots of high view videos. Third, same deal as the second, more random, fewer subs, high view videos. All 3 only had 2 low views, small(er) creators on the entire homepage (when the scrolling finally stops at the bottom).
I don't use the home feed, and i was just reminded why. When I just tried this exercise, it was filled with things already on my subscription feed (or from people I'm subscribed to but from years ago), things I have zero interest in and can't imagine why they're there, and nothing with less than 1k views. It's a mystery to me why anyone would use that feed in the first place.
Yeah, I feel exactly the same here, 2 weeks ago, when just been monetized, have a fast growth, now I'm really down here, and I know I make the same video quality, thumbnail, titles, tags...
People make a mistake by getting hung up on "hating the algorithm." Ultimately the algorithm is just a reflection of audience interest, so its not the algorithm that didn't like your video, it was the audience. It isn't giving bigger channels unfair advantages, its just rewarding a channel proven to hold audience attention. Rather than blame the algorithm, you need to be self-critical so you can analyze your content and make it better. It might be a game of chance to start, but you can game the odds in your favour by making better and more interesting content. Eventually the algorithm will find the people who resonate with your videos and it will reward you if your quality is good. Don't give up, and always strive to improve, you will find your success in time.
I see a pattern on my videos views, when it reaches 400 views,it started to decrease getting veiws until it is static, i have already uploaded 7 videos on yt shorts ,1 of my video got:1.4k views and the rest got 400+ , and im always checking them for the past few days , tgey are not moving .
The veiw count on the feed while searching through videos could be swapped out with a tag could give tags a bit more use and also from my experience I tend to look to higher viewed videos when looking for something I'm interested in instead of clicking on any of the videos
Great information especially for newer channels that are starting to get some traction. This is just proof that the thumbnail and first 30 seconds are critical!!! I think of it like going into a book store. They have all the new books out on a table. If you’re a no one, your cover needs to be that much more intriguing to have the person walking 🚶 by 🛑 look and then pick it up. Thanks VidIQ. We got this!
I can honestly say when I search or start my RUclips session, the title and thumbnail grabs my attention and I have never considered the views when deciding to click on the video
It's all about perception. If I sell tickets for a comedy show for 5 bucks it'll most likely get a low turnout. But if I make a fancy flyer and charge $40 for the exact same show I'll likely pack the place. The perception that it's a big deal or must be good draws people in. This is literally the hardest part about starting a RUclips channel. As much as people don't think they're followers, they are. If a video from a creator you've never seen has 100K views you'll wonder what everyone is checking out but if that same video had 100 views you'd be far less likely to give it a click. I learned the psychology of this pretty young from music. I had the perception underground music probably sucks or they'd be big. I was wrong. I was dead wrong. I learned that again with the example I gave with comedy shows and sure enough dealing with it now with RUclips. But once you start getting that initial push it SHOULD snowball pretty quick.
If YT put that much effort into it.. why do they repeatedly
show me videos I already watched in my home feed?
Not only that but videos I've scrolled past a million times! If I didn't want to watch it the first time, or the second... I'm not going to click it the third.

I didn't know that. Thank you. That a good tips. Thank you again
very true, ever since i turned that off, it has helped. many others i've spoken with who tested it, also works for them.
@taratenaPH you can't change it after you published
@RivasTalksSports I tried that and haven't noticed a difference. I will have to try that again.
So I should go for unlisted option first and then after sometime like 1 hour or so I should make it publish right?
I wonder if a way to curb this mentality is to just remove the "view count" from the video until you click on it. That way it almost levels the playing field in a way.
I love watching small creators, so half of my youtube feed has less than 1k views. I have no qualms about the algorithm because it shows small channels to people who are interested in small channels. Its kind of fun finding up and coming creators, like finding a good indie artist or game.
I do the same thing! I’m fascinated by small channels, especially when I see potential for them getting much bigger.

no, it is al about what they want you to see...They remove video's and subscribers too
I did a search for my actual video and it did not come up at all.
Exactly! I have a few videos like this and to this day I still don’t know why they just flatlined in impressions…looks sus to me
They removed 300 subscribers of mine in a month...and i have never grown in 4 years....They even remove many videos
@@TheKeystoneChannel removing subs usually happens when they clear out bots and inactive accounts. Video removal is due to violating terms. That's different than just not having the impressions.
1:20 The big solution is not to show the number of views, like other platforms!
Because if I don't know that this is a small channel, and if the thumbnail and title are attractive,
I will definitely click to watch the video!! Without thinking.. 🤔🙃
Exactly! You’ve done your research. The audience triggers the algorithm.
Look for drama that creator got into
I saw that channel😂😂😂 I think it is hacked
Okay, you know you got us curious what's the channel name...
I know this is a sneaky way to get people to view your Channel......well done...😏

Best comment ever. A comment I agree with and can relate to 100%. The algorithm should be revisited and corrected.

Nice sharing Bro😊
You at 60 now. New sub
If you are reading this don’t give up! Your channel will grow, just don’t stop grinding💪💪
Same here. Most of shorts get between 400-499 views. My bad shorts get about 5-100.
I have been seeing a lot of my shorts that I posted many months ago suddenly getting views, even though is not a lot. That has never happened before.
The best thing I heard last week was "this livestream is the first I ever decided to sit through for more than 5 minutes" and they were there for the entirety of the stream with chat activity! Good question 🤔
Damn.. I feel that too
Honestly most of the time that 1 unpopular video I find looks significantly worse than the popular videos it's surrounded by.

I think 1 issue no one really considers if the amount of people making videos probably trumps the amount of views
An example would be 100 creators all make a video, if they are all trying to get 1k thats 100k people that need to see that content.
Yeah same
@@Yukuro-anomaly i always feel wierd about this xD
Hi, I believe I’m facing a serious issue. I usually don’t watch my own short videos, but last week, I accidentally clicked on one of my shorts and ended up watching it until the end. Recently, I’ve encountered a problem where my own videos are being recommended to me, even in the shorts feed. I’m concerned about the negative impact this might have. Additionally, I’ve noticed a decrease in my view count. Could you please offer me some advice? Please
We just started our channel with 4 videos and have over 240 hours of watch time and 8k+ views. We are feeling optimistic. Good luck to everyone!
PS we used Vidiq to research keywords.
It was good around last week, even I was also shown new smaller creator's vlogs on my youtube. But from week it's again changed.
Honestly, I just stop caring about the algorithm and started uploading shorts and videos about any idea I get at the moment of my gaming content. I’m gonna keep doing it till I get the right audience. Good luck to everyone!
I agree 100%. ✔️
Thank you for 274 subscribers.... We keep going!!!! We CAN 💪
Just want to give a massive thanks for highlighting 4:40 sequence to the end.
This is the best and most concise video on the topic of social proof. Thanks for sharing guys!
Social Proof, wow!!!! All makes sense now. 100K, here I come so I can finally get noticed 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉😂😂😂. Keep going everyone, you got this!!
Even they do it for me too, my shorts videos are caped at 400views 😢
Oh, so im not alone, maybe others experience this
Yeah bro mine are capped at like 2k
..why are views getting capped for us small creators???
