You go off of what you got. That's the issue with self-tuning you can never really tune it accurately. Hopefully it's pretty close if it's just been sitting. other than that you do the best you can I definitely don't have perfect pitch
Best way is to train your ear to hearing the low E string in tune, it will come to you sooner than later don't worry, of course you have to use a tuner to start of with and they are not that expensive honestly, but once your ear "recognises" the low E in tune the rest of the tuning is easy peasy without using a tuner, go ahead practice it and within a few days you'll be laughing.
I'll never forget my first guitar. I ordered it online and when it arrived it was very badly out of tune, and I didn't have a tuner at the time so I just played it as is for the first couple months. When I did get a tuner I discovered my E string was ringing out as a C flat note (ouch!), the saddest part being that I didn't even know it! Thanks for this lesson -- it will definitely come in handy in the future!
I use a Super tight. I play the guitar out of tune 1st... for a while. To loosen up the strings on a cold or not humidity controlled guitar. Then I use the Snark. I also tune just a touch sharp on every string. ty for the content. Liked
Great, just the way I remember it from when I was a teenager! Playing two guitars we had to tune them in sync, and if piano was involved we had to tune the guitar's E to piano's.
I was doing piano playing and tuning only, and the root of tuning that is a tuning fork! The simplest of things you can add in your guitar case or next to your pick. It will save you from the incertainty in worst case your battery in your snarp fails! Another hint I guess, is making yourself as a total newbee to guitar tuning aware of the fact that top pegs are reverse-responsive to tuning to the bottom pegs (unless you start on an expensive all top pegs guitar as a beginner). It's not for all too clearly the case and it saves so much irritation if you're aware of this upfront. Another hint for those cornered in the absolute dire need for tuning whithout any reference ; use a song that you know all too well in which is a known "E". Like for us in EU everybody knows how to sing 'frère jaques' C, D, E, C. If you can hold that song's E, at least you'll have a start! Hope this helps, great vid (as usual hahahah)
In this situation you have to do the best you can. Most people don't have perfect pitch and this is why your guitar will never be truly in tune. Hopefully it is close enough to the real pitch at the start.
You can't. That's the down side with tuning without a tuner. You have to do the best you can. Not even I have perfect pitch. Hopefully it is close enough to the real pitch at the start.
Thanks for watching! If E strings are not in tuned it might sound either high or low key and probably you will not notice on your own if your ears are not trained.
oh and by the way guys one last tip, if you want to confirm weather or not your guitar is in tune to standard tuning E A D G B E you can play a note (like a low E or a low A or a low D , or a high G , high B or high E on the piano and see if the sound on the piano matches the sound of each of the strings on your guitar, if so then you are in tune and ready to rock ! :)
hey lauren ! by the way another great tip to give to beginner guitar players for tuning the guitar is this. you can tell weather or not your guitar is actually in tune or not cause if you play a note on a string on your guitar tuner device and then if you play the same string and same note on your guitar, the note you are playing on your guitar tuner and the note you are playing on your guitar string should sound exactly the same and when that happens it should create a laser like sounding chorus like sound effect when playing the two sounds together ! :) a great way to tell weather or not your guitar is in tune with your guitar tuner device and in tune to standard tuning ! :)
It's a real issue. I'm sorry, I have to use a tuner. I don't get how you tune all strings from low E string which isn't tuned...😳😳 Frustrating...but thanks for the lesson 🎶🎶🎶
Thanks for watching! You can get a tuner on your phone, but I find the clip ons are more accurate especially if you live in a noisy environment. ruclips.net/video/LFXMhKbFeoI/видео.html
@@LaurenBateman well yeah, nice video, but is there any other solution or technique than to make sound "good" ? because I can't really know how is the good sound is, like what we should listen too, what is typical hints that the string is in tune?

All well and good, BUT, how is the low E string tuned to start off tuning?!?

Glad it was helpful Jesse 😃
Great video. Good vocab. Good practical advice. Especially about the practice listening for the difference in pitch.

Great guitar tutorial on tuning without a tuner. Thank you Lauren.
Rock on
Hey... Lauren.... classic car T-shirt.... your Dad is teaching good habits... I was a ol' Ford parts guy for years.... now trying to learn guitar
Yes, my stepfather had a 56 bird and used to take me to all the car shows. I own a 68 Camaro. 😎

Thank you so much ms Lauren for sharing your knowledge. I am old but still love to learn guitar
Evelyn, more than happy to help!

Yep, the good old tuning fork!
Right, first of all. How do you tune the 6 string first to be able to tune the res
In this situation you have to do the best you can. Most people don't have perfect pitch and this is why your guitar will never be truly in tune. Hopefully it is close enough to the real pitch at the start.
ive been trying to figure this out. thanks. liked
You're welcome!
love all your videos, your a great eacher!
Aww thank you!
I also think she is damn brilliant . I just got my new guitar , instead of reading my class material. I prefer to watch her video !
Great illustration thanks for making it simple. I was struggling with how to tune but the diagram you provided really helped me. Thanks♡
Glad it helped!
If you have an I phone , you can download a tuner for free . Sadly , though ,relative tuning at the fifth fret does not give concert pitch .
Oh no!
Really loved learning this!
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks. I needed that
Glad my lessons helped you 😊
His really helped me thanks
Didn't touch my guitar for a year Cruz I was Tryna tune but I snapped a string.. Thanks tho
Glad you are back playing
Great technique!
Glad you like it!
It might be good to go back to the fat E string --- which in tuning might go slightly out of pitch 😃
good one - but my question is always how do you get one string tuned so that you can proceed to tune the others?
You can't. That's the down side with tuning without a tuner. You have to do the best you can. Not even I have perfect pitch. Hopefully it is close enough to the real pitch at the start.
Nice to know 🙂 thanks
My pleasure 😊
Thanks for sharing!! What if low E and high e string is not tuned ?
Thanks for watching! If E strings are not in tuned it might sound either high or low key and probably you will not notice on your own if your ears are not trained.
I can now bring out song...woooow thanks Madam
That's great!! Keep it up :D
nice lesson, but assumes Low E is in tune, how to fix that?
Nope, not assuming at all. It most likely won't be in tune. Hopefully it is close enough to the real pitch at the start.
Does a headstock tuner work good
Sure!
There are lot of guitar tuners on RUclips. I use them often.

Would harmonics help tuning
You could but I've never done it that way.
Not if you choose 5th and 7th fret method.
what happens if the sixth string is not in tune?
That's the down side. You can only tune to your own guitar

My tuning pegs won't turn its stuck somehow. I'm so disappointed
You may want to take it to a luthier or try some wd 40.

You got it. Better to use a tuner.
Cool
Thanks for watching!
Oh the digital world. I only had a tuning fork. 😹
🤣🤣🤣
There are free tuners for your phone app and on your computer, there is no excuse for being out of tune anymore
But what if you are alone on an island?
@@LaurenBateman buy one before you leave on vacation
The thing is in the phone app there's a pop up add that's kinda bothersome so i think we should use tuner tools.

Me too, but for me it was only one. Now my tuning pegs won't turn

If only I could memorize the E pitch, the rest would be a breeze.
