- Teesside is often mentioned by Tory ministers as an example of somewhere which has been levelled up, so we headed to Middlesbrough to find out what the locals think.

Lady said “Rishi Sunak said tax is definitely not going up.” But it has been going up and it is going up. But I shouldn’t be surprised that lying just works in UK politics.
Doing a good job ....stood outside a boarded up high street....and under the Tories plan's taxes are set to rise .
called a "deferential voter" - a delusional person who thinks that voting for a party of another class makes them belong to that class! Tragic
Look at all the shops boarded up and closed down behind the locals. That says enough.
I want what those two women are on. "Rishis doing a great job" hahaha.
He needs to level up that haircut Jesus Christ
😂
He must have lost a bet.
That's a majestic mullet. You have no idea what you're talking about
@@19rudy73An absolute top notch mullet imo.
He bringing Mullets back.
When Boris kept saying "levelling up" he wasn't talking about bring the north up to a standard he was talking about levelling it as in to flattern it
2:15 "Rishi Sunak has said taxes are not going up". What does she think freezing the income tax threshold does?
@1:30 when that lady says she thinks Richi is doing a great job she is shaking her head. Mouth saying one thing and body language say the opposite. Does she really believe what she is saying?
Classic, no not voting Tory and don't like Starmer, but I will vote Reform.... loads of people here are doing that! WTF complaining that the shops are all boarded up because "there's no money here", and then blithely voting for Farage and Reform who has openly said he will do away with the NHS. Are these people in a position to pay £18/20k per year just for Farage's US style health insurance? Come on ITV journalists, ask some more pertinent questions, don't keep leaving things unanswered/unchallenged like you did in the run up to the Referendum. 😠
They feel hopeless. Feel sorry for the native Middlesbrough people. Immigration has destroyed this town
@XTSu-sl1bb the Tory ideology of austerity has not immigrants.
@@XTSu-sl1bb what exactly has immigration done? If it's the case that migrants are taking up houses, do you not think Tory lack of investment into house building, both monetarily and legislatively, is the real source of the problem? Because that's very much the case where I live in the midlands. If it's antisocial behaviour, people from all walks of life, creeds and colours, are capable of antisocial behaviour (I could name a few from my street!!)
@@teddyboysdontknit810 am from the town, I see the issues first hand. Biggest problem is illegal migration into the town.
@@appalingbehaviour am from the town and the main issue in Middlesbrough is illegal immigration. It also has many other issues that need fixing but the main issue is the degradation of the town center thousands of migrants from all around the world walking around the town center makes it no go zone. The town is obviously not being leveled up in anyway, but the community in the heart of the place has been ripped out of it. If this was done to any other culture, people would be out protesting about it. It’s so unfair that the people of Middlesbrough have to put up with this, because in their area is cheap
Distracted by the mullet…
Our national income (GDP) as a country last year was £2.5 trillion.
In reality the levelling up programme has only given out about £10 billion in funds, so in reality a tiny amount.
Mass immigration reduced GDP per cap/ head.
It's DOWN
GDP is not government budget. But your point is still correct. Conservative steel the money and labor waste it.
I dont know what's worse, broken Tory promises or that dudes mullet.
£3 trillion national debt, austerity and this!!! What’s happened to all our money?
Vote out to help out vote Labour after 14 years of decline vote Labour get the conservative out vote Labour 😅😅😅😅😅😅😅
I went for a night out in Middlesbrough in 2021, it felt dead. Half that town literally looked abandoned to the elements, and I mean in the town centre, not the industrial areas. It felt like Thanos snapped his fingers and half the population had vanished. Sad town. Deserves better.
My parents emigrated from Teesside to Australia in the 1970s to avoid the successive waves of bovine effluvia washed north out of Westminster. My grandad worked at Dorman & Longs steelworks all his working life, and the town slowly fell down around his ears from the 50s onwards, something the Germans couldn't achieve in the 40s. But the glum Labour party, then the toxic Tories, did the same job, just over decades, rather than years.
Is that a mullet... Is it 1986 again 🙈
LMAO! Seriously, go to Boro town centre and you'll think your in a post apocalyptic war zone.
Agree. Parking in the car park behind what was Psyche, you are straight onto the set of Full Metal Jacket.
@@rockyl9120 im not even going to lie, i seen one woman squat in the street and relieve her bowls onto the street snd everyone just carried on like its a daily bloody occurrence! Just crazyness. So yeah, the Tories are doing great for Teesside 🤣😂
😂😂
I recently visited South Shields and it was pitiful. Boarded up shops, nothing going on. Same for other areas around there. On the decline, which is very sad for the people who have lived there for a long time as they really are lovely people with big hearts.
Laughable, "everybody round here's voting Reform" pity you didn't ask about Farages plan for the NHS. Doubt many interviewed can afford US style health care..
They could if they stopped drinking, smoking and eating junk food. Take some responsibility.
Looking at 1:16, you could say things in Teeside are going backwards.. 😂
I agree with the lady at the end
From Brecon to the sea Wales will be Labour Free...🏴🐑
Tories are Labour in all but name. High taxes, immigration, strikes and discontent. Being as coffers are worse than empty, Labour will have no option but to heap taxes on the working classes. Vote for something different - Vote Reform
They have leveled up , nobody can afford a house in the North.
That's an awesome mullet sir
Like how they are all whining and the town centre looks very nice and clearly a lot spent on it. Hilarious, they should see some towns in the midlands😢
They've picked the one decent street in Middlesbrough
its all boarded up.
Should have known better..
Just one example of how we are not equal in the North. Maximum fare on a London bus £1.75. Subsidised fare for now in North Yorkshire £2. This could be ending soon
A bold haircut if I do say so
*They are being 'levelled-up' by being ignored!*
The 1980s called: they want their haircut back!
'e shud do summat abaht 'is air style. Meybee, theirs no barburs theere!
I wonder of she keeps a full bucket by the door in hope, or if she'd ask them to wait there as she fills one.
Boarded up shops could be a result of online shopping, instead of trying to stimulate the high street with failed business after failed business, build houses and make them residential areas .
We've got the Highest tax burden since WW2 thanks to the Tories but Rishi says he won't put tax up again so he gets my vote..... This is why they get away with it.
Yet you believe him? Considering the Tories put up taxes, how on earth can you vote for them again.
@@teddyboysdontknit810 I was being facetious. Never Trust a Tory.
Just showing how the media make people think the way they want them to, you can literally just put headlines above peoples heads
shops boarded up
Is the mullet a disguise to blend in? If that's real he is definitely a fan of professional wrestling.
And that’s why the shameful Tories are getting kicked out!
Well you voted for them. Tees Valley Mayor is bent. On July 4th put your vote in Labour.
And get the same or worse .
To get the same outcome lol if not worse
@@BlueIvory4 Spot on with your comment . LOL, GET THE WORSE AND THAT'S IT , A BIG HOLE AGAIN .
The Teesside Freeport Scandal is being reported by Private Eye, similar to the Post Office as mainstream media apparently not interested. Gove prevented the National Audit Office (NAO) investigating sending in his own team whose report was a whitewash. Hopefully, when this corrupt Tory government is kicked out, the NAO can investigate fully what Houchen has done.
🪣 of 💧 😂
Levelling up is not about a new block of hoses or a new bowling ally for example it is about decent jobs. Get that problem sorted and the rest will follow
I gladly buy online. It's so much easier and more fun browsing than travelling 20 mins by car, paying for overpriced parking, just to visit your usual dull and outdated retailers like Argos (lol), only then to be told that they don't have the thing you are looking for and suggest that you look online... Most town centres are boring, tiresome and full of addicts.. Not exactly vibrant places that people want to visit.
Sick haircut
And then u look at a liberal place like liverpool centre the nightlife is always busy, shops are all open, streets are tidy
One thing I hate in the UK is how we keep insisting on giving so many subsidies to shops. We have too many shops for the amount of consumption in the economy as it is.
We need to 1) reindustrialise the left behind places
2) create a much better welfare state than the second rate one we have
3) Try to get working class wages up, that will benefit the economy far more than trickle down
4) create new spaces in places like Middlesborough, i.e create new culture centres, sports facilities, etc.
Capitalism will never invest in training, robotics or increase pay and conditions if it can just fly in labour. Oligarchs love immigration but it's a race to the bottom for the working class.
@@evolassunglasses4673Tesla and Nvidia are private companies ....have you any idea about AI and Robotics ? Tesla employees are doing just fine. Labour ruin wages by ruining companies and the UK as a whole.
STOP VOTING TORY !!!!!
A dump.
I think a dog is sitting on his neck
That mullet ffs. I know it's only ITV News, but try and maintain SOME standards...
Shops are closed because the sheep all buy online :)
Shops are closed because business rates mean that they have to earn £10,000 per week just to break even. People shop online because there is far more choice at much cheaper prices.
Shops are closed because everyone has less money. Well apart from the millionaire class, they have more money than ever. but they don’t shop on ordinary high streets
Sheep or smart people?
Now you’re a sheep if you prefer convenience and cheaper prices 🤣🤣🤣

You voted for Brexit you were all conned, now you have to just put up and shut up.
The idea that conservatives failures are all the fault of just brexit is nonsense.
What's actually bad about Brexit? Because to me it doesn't actually seem like anything has changed since 31st December 2020?
@@christophersmith8990 well then you are either a Brexit cultist unable to accept that he was conned or just stupid. The question should be what are the benefits of Brexit because we were told all the problems were the fault of the EU. By your own admission there are no benefits.
The high street has died because online shopping is faster and easier to do even EPOS are replacing employees onsite
Brexit and covid only accelerated it
Yes it was leveled up with lots of dinghy divers
Immigration has killed Middlesbrough. It was a half decent place to grow up in the 1990s but now it’s unrecognizable from that time. You would hardly believe you were in England. The reason is that it was a poor place with cheap housing so the government moved all the immigrants in. It’s truly unfair for native Middlesbrough people
same can be said of any post industrial town in the "provinces" it will go in history as a great crime.
I hope it gets worse for them. Then they can spend more time contemplating the benefits of brexthick. LOL
But we haven't had BREXIT, maybe because of silly little sausages in the civil service refusing to implement it.
Hahahaha so blinded by hate. 8 years ago ya trog
The uk needs change , 🇬🇧Reform uk all the way 🇬🇧
Oh yes that's the one with all the neo nazi candidates isn't it , yay go patriotism
Lol
More Freeport's then?
Lol
I like the policy but have no trust they could actually govern the country with a single policy. Nobody to vote for, democracy is broken
Reform wave incoming fk liebour
you're in for a shock if Reform win - your life won't improve a smidgen.
Nigel Farage is the man who speaks for people who talk behind closed doors, because if we speak the TRUTH, its classed as controversial .
Vote Reform Party to put an end to all this drama.
He is a con man
Sorry sunshine but Farage only speaks for himself and doesn't give a toss about you or the average man/woman in the street! If he and his band of grifters get in, I hope you have a spare £20,000 a year to cover your health insurance costs, and ....oh, that will be doubled or not available to you if you have many pre existing conditions. Enjoy the NHS while you can!
