  • I knew this printer be able to handle high speeds. It has everything required for speed. Stout frame. High end LDO stepper motors. I'm also running BigTreeTech TMC5160 Plus external stepper drivers. I'm only running them at 24V.

Your design certainly looks nice. Yes, I have a box of spare BLTouch pins (it's almost like they made the pin sacrificial...). Any reason you didn't use an original BLTouch? A few years ago I tested a bunch of clones against the original and the original had an order of magnitude better repeatability than any of the others. Dunno about the situation now.

The microprobe is super tiny. This issue with BIQU microprobe is the tip unscrews eventually crashing, breaking the probe when it hits a print. I have another video about it, I also have it apart so you can see what's inside. I also have a box of probes going back 8 years. Inductive, capacitive, bltouch, CR-touch, etc.... I might try beacon's Eddy current probe or Creality's version of it. I messed with the Bambu Labs Lidar the other day. I would like to know how that works. There was allot of wires coming off it. Allot more wires then a typical Z-stop type probe.

Have you tried any of the eddy current probes yet?

@@fintechrepairshop Nope! I just figured BLTouch was good enough and stopped thinking about probes. What do you get for PROBE_ACCURACY with that BIQU and belts? And what is your Z movement per rotation? Are you using 0.9 degree motors? Been awhile so I just ran it again on the two printers I have running:
-Printer with TR8x2 screws, 2mm Z per rotation, 1.8 degree, long loop belt driving two screws with one motor: 50-probe StDev = 0.001236mm
      -Printer with TR8x8 screws and 2:1 reduction, 4mm Z per rotation, 1.8 degree, 3pt Z tilt: 50-probe StDev = 0.002228

@@jessicav2031 I'm kind of in the same boat, I not sure if I see the value in eddy current probe. I'm running no gear reduction on Z. 1.8 degree motors. I can get the bed crazy flat, probably 0.05mm. I can usually get the bed flat in 3 passes.

@@fintechrepairshop First layer aside, do you see any artifacts that might be attributed to the low Z resolution? That 0.05mm you cite being exactly 1/4 step seems to say that is the effective resolution of the axis...and most designs I've seen with belted Z use a reduction (eg. Voron). I mean, that 0.05mm is also 1/4 of a typical layer with a 0.4mm nozzle!
