Thank you for sharing. As a fellow psych head I really appreciate the feeling of needing to preserve awesome music from the past that is going to be forgotten otherwise.
You have a lot of classics in your collection! The cover of 'Cheap Thrills' artwork is by Robert Crumb a truly important artist! The Velvet Underground cover by Andy Warhol is one of the greatest covers on one of the greatest LPs of all time. Your enthusiasm is contagious, you had me making a list of things to listen to again in the first 10 minutes!
I really enjoyed watching your video, I appreciate your enthusiasm! Like you, I am also getting into psychedelic rock, and boy, you are so right in saying there is A LOT of good music out there most people would never hear if wasn't for people like you and others sharing your discoveries. Thanks again, and keep the records spinning!
Nice reviews. I enjoyed watching. “Steppenwolf” is my favorite. 7 is their best release. They released more LPs after “For Ladies Only” and yes, that’s the Dick Mobile on the inside gatefold. A great band.
I remember when I was first introduced to the Velvet Underground. It was the Oliver Stone movie The Doors (which was not a great movie). I think my favorite album by them is Underground, which has a country feel to it. I have a friend who found that Morgen, nm, at a goodwill for a quarter. I have a reissue much like you do. Great psych album. Methuselah is on the Elektra 4000 series. Much of that is great material. Always worth checking out. I have that Animated Egg record. I always heard there was a tie in with the Inner Id. Clear Light had two drummers. Not a favorite of mine. Mass in F Minor is good, although I think all of the original Prunes had cut bait by then. Tommy James is a fun psych record. I Don't Live today is an amazing track. Electric Ladyland is my favorite Hendrix album. So awesome. I like Voodoo Chile also. Steve Winwood, Jack Casady and others play on it. BOB SEGER! 2+2! Silver Bullet days, meh! LOL Creed from the Grass Roots was awesome on the Office.
Hey Derek, Yes the Alice Cooper is the first pressing. My favorite also! Cool you got the MONO doors album. That has the uncensored mix of THE END. Shortly after Jimbo sings "The blue bus is calling us" the tempo starts to build faster and faster. You can here Jim chanting " Fuck Fuck Fuck Kill Kill Kill" When the stereo mix was done later, that was completely mixed out. Head phones are best when listening for it. As the vocal is a bit buried in the backing tracks. I'm new to your channel. Hope to write again.
I just read your 2020 update. I must say your first video is better than my first. I’m surprised Voodoo Child(the 15 min jam) is your favorite off Electric Ladyland. I think it ruins the Psych feel of most of the rest of the album. I’ve never listened to Steppenwolf 7. I quit after Monster.
My thoughts have changed on pretty much all of these choices. Nowadays, I'd say "1983..." is my fave from Ladyland. I'd say Steppenwolf always had something to offer all the way up till For Ladies Only.
Hey Derek, I re-watched this today well this morning, I remember watching it clear back then, I was curious, how many of these albums you showed do you still own or upgraded? This was a great first showing video IMO, I've always enjoyed your videos, pretty cool. cheers-✌
I still have pretty much all of these, except for mostly the last 10 minutes or so. Methuselah, Steppenwolf, Big Brother & Co., T. Swift, Bob Seger System all gone. Seems like I've only upgraded the Tommy James & Grass Roots. I need to upgrade that Doors debut in mono. A toughie these days, but still plays decent.
@@PsycheDerek. that's cool, I was just curious on how much you kept and upgraded since then, I think all of our collections have evolved to obviously for the better from the beginning of getting our feet wet in psychedelia, I look back when I first started getting into it and I thought bands like Steppenwolf and Jefferson Airplane were the creme lol , man was that a long time ago and thousands of dollars later 🤣 cheers ✌🏼
Nice stuff !! Blue Cheer !!!!!!! Not sure if i'd call VU a psych band. Lou hated that hippie psych stuff. Actually, their anti-psych. Find some Gong ! Their awesome space rock/psych. Nice taste!!!!!!! King crimson!!!!!
I'm back. The Hendrix is a 1969 2nd press. Play Third stone from the sun at 45 rpm. Many parts will sound as if you are listening at the correct speed.
28:31 My faith in humanity is restored! :) 'Pink Floyd - A Nice Pair', with 'The Piper at the Gates of Dawn' (1967) and 'A Saucerful of Secrets' (1968). It seems that you have the "dentist" version (photo on top right of front cover). This version was changed, because dentists weren't allowed to advertise. There are also differences between the UK and US pressings. The US pressing being less original, by containing 'Astronomy Domine' from 'Ummagumma'. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Nice_Pair You might also want to hear mono mixes. Of 'Piper', it's available on CD. (Best version seems to be the 40th anniversary CD-box.) And maybe Syd Barrett's solo albums.
