Have to disagree on Grover, he is very loyal and very hard working. Dude went looking for Pan alone, knowing how many people died trying to do it before, also knocks off brave there. When the council denied his claims on Pan and trying to reseed nature, he said screw it and went off to do it himself with grit and determination. And he never “abandoned” anyone in his search, he always left for his personal quest after the group was safe, believing that the dream of Pan would benefit the camp as well. I have no doubts that Grover would drop the quest in a heartbeat to come to the camps aide.
