Thank you for the review Chris. I have ordered a brown one. It looks like the perfect design for my needs, to pop in my bag. I am particularly pleased it is vegan - thank you for mentioning it.
Hi, Chris! Thank you for reviewing the Lochby Journal. Normally I carry a Traveler's Notebook (A5 slim), but I am considering buying the Lochby A5. I like its size, and the fact that it has a built-in pen loop.
Hi Kurt - oh nice - I like my A5 field journal cover so much too because of being able to stuff the pockets with stuff I use for journaling. Their pen loops are such good quality and that is one of my favorite parts of any cover. :)
Chris, you sound so much better, I am so happy you are finally starting to feel like you again.!! Happy and Healthy.! That Lochby looked great. If I was still in Pocket size I would want that. I started out my journey of TNs in Pocket size and the Personal size and Chic Sparrow.
Hi @donnad5986 thank you! I just love Chic Sparrow TNs and well everything they make! I'm eyeing her new snap design now ... I think they are trying a sort of crowd funding preorder for one that I think is so beautiful ... the leather can only be purchased in a huge lot I think. Anyway, such beautiful designs and craftsmanship. :)
Love Lochby! I have their 4 pen zipper carrier. The mini is great and It is nice to be able to carry an extra pen but I agree, I’d be afraid to just slide one in…easy to loose. Great review!
Hi @lju5001 -- oh their 4 pen Quattro I use it everyday for keeping with my journal ... it's very convenient to carry when I go to appointments with people also!
What a great opportunity you got to submit your feedback for changes and you got to try out the new product! It looks and sounds great. I will definitely look into this.
I didn't know Lochby had a mini field journal or I would have asked for one for Christmas! Like you, I'm glad they chose not to put velcro on the back pocket...it just gets in the way in my pocket journal. I like how your Lamy fits in the pen loop because I got a Lamy AL-Star for Christmas and I'm loving it. Thanks for showing this Chris. 😀
Hi Edward ... I always love zippered ones too ... I have noticed that the zipper ones I love the best are more specific on how much can fit in so I have to keep that in mind where open ones tend to be able to be stuffed pretty full. :) Thank you I'm feeling much better ... I had a whole month of Covid but now just a little lingering cough but I'm really feeling good. :)
Hi @Calcprof -- I noticed that some companies are now making a strap with heavy duty snap which I also like. So far, I get along fine with the buckle unless I over tighten the strap on the Lochby's. :) Chic Sparrow is a company that makes beautiful leather covers not usually in my budget but I love their newer designs with a nice strap. Their straps don't adjust though and so that's a consideration! :)
They did redesign the buckle on the mini field journal compared to the bigger brother. I never minded the A5 size field journal but I did kind of notice that you kinda had to come at it at a particular angle if you’re going to buckle it fairly easily. The mini field journal doesn’t have any weird angles or anything. It’s literally a straight piece of metal so it’s very easy to unbuckle and buckle back up compared to the bigger brother. If you wanted to give it a shot, I really don’t know what the return policy is because I’ve just kept them.
A nice review Chris, thanks 👍 . Looks well made like their other products. Shame they only produce them in what I call dull boring colours. When you mentioned your cheque book, I thought oh I've not used a cheque book for years and will probably have difficulty finding the one that I do have 😂. I guess cheque books still used a lot in the US?
Hi Annie -- we use fewer and fewer checks but I always use an old school check register to keep track of debits and credits and balance. I've been preparing myself for not using checks at all as I'm sure that's the direction we're going in but until last year we still mailed payments in. LOL I may shift back into something thinner for my banking register since the zip pocket case is almost "too nice" for something I don't use too often. :)
That looks very nice! Hmm. I may have to look into this 🤔 As far as the pens go, have you tried only hooking the clips in the pen loop? Two look like they'd still fit inside the notebook and be protected. With any type of pen loop I have (in any notebook/brand), I've always been able to hook 2 this way. Let me know if that doesn't make sense, and I'll try to explain it better, or I can send a photo on Instagram! 🤭 I'm glad you're feeling better!! I'm just getting over 3 weeks of covid, and my cough is hanging on!
Hi @menm_91 oh I had not thought of that but it's a great idea! I think I know exactly what you're talking about ... using the clips of the pens to hook 2 of them onto the pen loop. There's definately enough room I just didn't think of it so thank you!!! :) I hope your cough goes away ... mine has mostly departed but I have to be so careful with any really dry foods ... I don't want to trigger a coughing spell ... my rib/side area is still healing up from too much coughing on New Years Day. :)
I already have the Lochby Mini Field Journal, but now of course I need one of these. I appreciate the higher capacity and the pen loop. The outer pen pocket on the Lochby Mini Field Journal is so tight that it doesn't really hold anything. (I can fit a Diplomat Traveler in there, and I'm sure a Kaweco Lilliput would fit too, but they're still too tight in there and you have to be careful to pull out the whole pen.) I always have my Mini Field Journal with me, but essentially all it's doing is protecting one or two notebooks from damage. I like your idea of using multiple notebooks for book logging and may do the same.
Hi Marilyn -- they really did a great job with this one! I really love it! Keeping up with my book reading lists works really well in pocket notebooks for me anyway. :)
Hi, how do you find the mini journal to write in with four notebooks? Do you take them out or leave them in? I have found when using travellers notebooks with multiple inserts that there is a step up when using the outer most inserts. Thanks for your review and wishing you well.
Hi @richardhall904 -- I do prefer to write in the inserts when they are out of the journal cover mostly ... unless it's just quick jotting ... as I use this more I'll pay more attention to how I handle that. With the thicker Chic Sparrow cover I almost always took the insert I was working on out except for reference or quick checking off of books, or jotting a quick note.
Thank you for the review Chris. I have ordered a brown one. It looks like the perfect design for my needs, to pop in my bag. I am particularly pleased it is vegan - thank you for mentioning it.
Oh cool -- I hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine!!!! :)
I have the A5 size and really like it. It's nice to see they have a mini now. Take care of yourself!
Hi Terri - I was so excited to see the pocket size one come out too!!!!! :)

Thanks for the review. I’ve been thinking of getting one. Just waiting for January since that was when they said the blue would be available.
Just found Lochby! Thanks for the review.

I believe they released this right after Christmas! :) This would make a fantastic Valentine's gift lol. :)
@@ChrisSaenz13That is an excellent idea! 😀
My preference is always for zippered ones. This is a good size, along with A5 size. I hope you are feeling better

Yeah, I got the brown in the mini as well and I got an older A5 in brown as well and it’s the same thing. It’s a lot darker than my old A5.
I'm eager to see how the navy mini field journal will age ... whether or not it will lighten up any. :)
I find the Lochby Field Journal really well made, but I find the buckles/hooks kind of a pain -- though I'm not sure what would be better.

I’ll bet a Lamy CP1 would fit in the outside back pocket.
Oh that's true -- and I had not thought about it but the Kaweco Liliput also. :)

@@ChrisSaenz13 hi again Chris that's really helpful. I struggle with multiple inserts.
What a nice lady ❤ god bless her
