Great discussion and useful info. I have a catalog of 20 or so docs to bring to Filmhub. I liked that you asked a question about docs with the Filmhub CEO.
This guy is so sharp you can literally just have him send this interview to any company in the world and they would be fools not to hire this guy is so knowledgeable so well spoken he’s going to do well
thanks. I like mixing things up. I really like doing short into the camera stuff myself. But honestly these longer ones are a bit easier to put together and I don't have to come up with so much from scratch. I plan to keep mixing up.
This is great and thanks for finding the Alan, the cofounder of Filmhub - invaluable to hear what is working from him direct. Was most interested in the comments at about 33 mins about the docs that do well for them and the length -don't make them overlong - max 70 mins to aim for - of course depends what they justify but I feel also that people want a certain length as well as quality - tricky to ask for $9.99 on TVOD for something that's only 25 mins. Top advice here as usual. Maybe timecode the main points if you haven't already?
He and a few other distributors are saying tvod is pretty rough for indie filmmakers. when talking about shorter length docs he's not suggestin tvod. He's talking avod or svod. Tvod is dying out for indies. There's exceptions, but for the most, it's not the way to go.
Fantastic video! Thank you again for all you do! Oh, and I really enjoyed your "Don't call me Bigfoot" doc. Great and fresh approach to the subject. I'll get off my scattered ass and leave a review soon. :)
@@tonyyoung3985 not on the file itself. You just add chapter metadata on the filmhub site. if you want to get onto tubi or other AVOD platforms it's a must.
Thank you. I am a subscriber and follow all your very helpful videos. I have a question about FilmHub's copyright "process". If I copyright my film under an LLC at the Library of Congress, when I upload the copyright owner information, am I asking for extra trouble in having to transfer something from my personal name on the Filmhub account to an LLC as owner? More steps? Is it better to open the Filmhub account in my LLC name and then upload the copyright in the same LLC? What will they require, because I prefer everything to be under the LLC. Thanks!
Great interview J. Horton and thanks Alan for the straight answers. My question is: My Holiday/Family film has been picked up by a good size Domestic Distributor that took US & UK rights. Release date is Nov. 23rd for UK and Dec 8th for US. I have been trying to secure a foreign sales agent for remaining territories(since 9/1/20) and no luck SO I started the upload process with FILMHUB and I'm trying to get a handle on when I should "launch" for the rest of the world to be available. Do I wait for the UK to launch or just hang tight for the later US release(Dec. 8th) so as to help with SEO and publicity/reviews these two markets will generate?? Thanks
This was really helpful. I'd love to know how --and if--outside marketing can affect the channel placement of a film via FHub since that wasnt really discussed. If I understood correctly, you upload a film and then an algorithm decides where it goes. I'm curious when and where outside marketing comes into the algorithm's "decision" and the best time to spend marketing money
so we were watching this last night - first of all, you are so likable - i thought we should invite you to a party lol - but why did the CEO choose to have himself shot in front of a screen like that? My second thought was omg! that guy is so young ... Then you were nodding and it was cracking me up because that's what i have to do when I interview people. I thought wouldn't it be funny if every time it went back to you your hair was a little longer and then a little longer - then by the end you were rip van winkle lol - ok so I don't make TV shows (my husband does )I am just a jerk with a microphone but just wanted to say hi - I find you very entertaining!
thank you very much. I really appreciate that. I always do feel a bit awkward in interviews. I did one not too long ago (i don't want to name it) where if you look close you can see me zoning out and getting annoyed the answer gets so rambley and off topic.
Very informative, Thank you. I've had my movie on Amazon for a bout a year with some success. It's pretty much died now. Do you recommend switching everything over to Filmhub? How would you compare Filmhub to BitMax?
Vey useful and nicely done thanks. My question - if I already have a film on Amazon can I migrate it across to Filmhub? Would this mean taking if off Amazon and starting again? Is this something Filmhub considers? Thanks again.
Also just to clarify if someone uploads their movie onto prime video themselves directly Film hub won't take it and neither will indie rights is that correct ?
filmhub will take it. they just can't do amazon rest of the world (other english speaking territorries) or IMDB TV without having the amazon rights in full. and it decreases your odds of getting onto some other platforms. IndieRights definitely wants amazon. I don't think they wiggle on that one.
What if you have a film on Prime and it's been listed as " unavailable ". Will Filmhub attempt to upload it and will that cause problems with theT.O.S. I think if you try that with another account on your own could get get you cancelled.
@@stillhousefilms6165 I've heard tell of projects getting back up through filmhub. My thought on it is that if it were to get purged again it wouldn't effect you personally, it would be filmhub's issue. you can. I used to do amazon us and uk on my own and do the rest through filmhub. But I reccomend giving amazon to filmhub now. You'll get on more platforms with the metrics. Hey J.Horton ... very informative. One major stand out is that he claims he has the movie "Plug" which Indie Rights also claims to have... is Indie Rights just using Filmhub? Another question when self distributing and forced to market yourself, how can you track progress on marketing when you can't track numbers in real time? Having same issue with Indie Rights. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks!
Ask if there are any real smaller bankable actors? Who could get you an advance on sales once a film is completed? I know I’m dreaming. But it doesn’t hurt to ask.
I think Phil is right. I think you're thinking of Plug Love with IndieRights. I just looked at their catalog. I don't see a 'Plug' As for real time tracking, that's always been an issue with indie distro. In 20 years with a dozen different distributors. I've never got real time reporting from anyone. Closest to it is Prime Video Direct and over the last year that's been very inconsistent in timing. I just do the marketing. If you're doing ads you can monitor click through and you can tell by the levels and type of engagement on social media if a particular campaign is working or not. In addition to that I keep in communication with IR as much as I can without being a bother. With FH, they update their dashboard often. More than onec a month. You don't get the Prime SVOD #'s like you do through PVD. But the rental and sales numbers give you a decent idea of where you're standing.
@@FilmProducerThe I don't know very many Indie distributors that are giving MG's anymore. I've heard back channel of a few but I can't share that info. Always recommend getting your film up as soon as possible. Release dates aren't as important in the Indie world. Your audience will grow over time.

biggest factor is how the movie is performing on the first platform it's placed on. So your initial marketing should focus on that.
