@@Zaroff91 You're either using an out of date version of Xenia, or it has changed names yet again. The game will crash with the patch if you're not using the GoTY version of the game.

So happy for you dude. I am just now playing TLC after having grown up on Fable 2 (one of my favourite games of all time) and 3 on Xbox. I had a similar experience with Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, which I was never able to play on console or emulator until the remaster was emulatable.
Dyes work if you: 1.) set read back resolve to true. save changes 2.) set your X and Y axis to 1. save changes. (Dyes only show in 720p, nothing above for some reason) 3.) Enter the game, apply the dye of your choice. (I dyed my hair blonde to at least get the good/pure hair morph affect.) AND SAVE!!!!!! 4.) Revert read back resolve to false and the x and y axis to 2. or w.e you use. save changes 5.) Enter the game. Profit.
This is pretty cool, I've never played fable II, been waiting past couple of years for xenia and the patches to get this good. Finally I can play the whole trilogy in order.

Man, this is a dream come true. My Xbox 360 has a hard time running for more than half an hour currently due to a power supply issue, so it's nice that I can finally get back to playing Fable 2. It's mind boggling that it's the only Fable to not have a proper port of any kind to PC, especially since before Fable 2 released they had the flash games to promote the game. I subscribed, especially out of interest for any future patches and content. I've been keeping an eye on Xenia for what feels like ever.
Played Fable 2 on Xenia around October 2022 with a I think specialized build and found this one on a potential replay. Can confirm that disabling the texture morphing patch, enabling readback resolve and applying whatever cosmetic you want (in my case makeup) and changing everything back works. I was even able to change the makeup without being presented with a broken face texture, which is neat. EDIT: Turns out I forgot to switch readback off, broken face texture came back as I first expected. Can't say it works guaranteed.

Thank you for this guide, I've had a longing to replay this game for quite a while, and I'm enjoying it a lot, the advantages of emulation really help bring the childhood fantasy back. I'd like to contribute a little bit. To me it felt like the crashes happening at relatively predictable times had to mean they were performance related. I crashed, for example, when first entering new areas and fighting for the first time. In my last session before this comment, I tried going to the Task Administrator, Details, and setting Xenia's priority to just under Real Time. I've had the game running for 3 hours with no crashing, through the Balverine lair and the Crucible + mopping up the time sensitive quests. If anyone is having trouble with crashing, try this!
Thank you guy, got mine working other than the dog flickering and the heros being corrupted a lot more often than with just the base install. Something to mention since someone might be having this problem like me, when opening xenia canary make sure you opening from the folder and NOT a desktop shortcut [Patched Applied] will not show up. If you want to set up a desktop shortcut and have the patches work you need to right click the application and copy as a path. You can then right click the desktop, create shortcut and paste the path.

I have been wanting to re-play this game for YEARS (without having to re-buy a used 360 and track down another copy of Fable II) the guide worked perfectly! Now I can re-play this masterpiece in 2x native resolution 60 FPS.. on my PC! Dog is still a little funky but he's not pitch black anymore so I'll take it haha. Thank you for this!!

just wanted to say thank you this is the only way to play fable 2 and now I can play it with 60fps with a faster menu better resolution and the best is having my character actually show up and no more weird flickering. Just need to remember to back up my saves just in case. Thank you for the hard work
the further you get into the game, and the stronger your spells get, are going to crash the game more often. Also, people with amd gpu's are plagued with so many more crashes. It's very annoying, but haven't had any issues with my save getting corrupted but I still back up saves while the game is running and rename them as well so I can keep track. Always save after you've done a very annoying puzzle or something lol. I'm currently trying to find a good driver and xenia canary version that can work well with my terribly optimized amd gpu so it doesnt crash so much
Thank you so much Guy! I tried to play Fable 2 on xcloud and too me it was unplayable with 600mgbs download speed due to how laggy and blurry the game was. If you play on Xenia it's a great experience after you install Guy's patches. The only thing I can is that I had a scare where my save file corrupted because the game crashed while I was saving and had played multiple hours before backing it up like Guy said. Luckily you can use your chapter save as your main save and not lose all of your progress. I would highly recommend having your backup save window, and game file window open, and almost any time you save or do something tedious in the game, just copy your file over. Still an amazing experience and have been enjoying it.

Just finished the first one for the first time since I was a kid, and I’ve never played 2 ! I was able to get 3 from g2a and redeem it on steam, but had to do some fancy footwork in the game files to get it to run (capped at 30😔) I’m sooo excited to get home and finally get my mitts on this game
When I first got my xbox 360 when I was about 12 years old I got the fable 2 with the xbox. And it was hell of a fun game and I love the english the story and the living. Its like a skyrim world but in a british medieval world with scary creatures, pretty a horror game adventure. I just wish they had it on Switch etc. I use switch mostly whole time as my laptop lags a lot can only handle diablo 2 and widescreen games. But my Switches handles games very good so had been happy if it had exist in there.

It's an utter travesty this was never ported to PC properly and fans have to make their own programs and patches just to play the game they love. it will work with a gtx 1060, but you will be playing with low fps, so just keep the 60 fps patch disabled, as it causes some issues in some parts of the game
And for those who have been facing issues with patches not loading even after applying them from "false" to "true"; I don't know why, but an older version of Xenia Canary can load the patches while the newer one cannot. I was facing the same issue loading patches on the latest version of Xenia Canary. I kind of thought that I would check an older version and see how that works out. And it worked!
Made the mistake of buying the xCloud subscription. 1G internet connection via Ethernet and the quality drop is craaaazy. 1080p and capped at 30 fps... Now getting into emulation after wasting 18€
Half-Working Morality Morphs Guide: 1. Quit out of game and Xenia 2. Turn off the fable 2 disable morphs patch in config file 3. Set readback resolve to true, and set resolution scaling to 1 4. Restart game, load in, save and exit 5. Keep the disable morphs patch OFF (Important), but reset read back resolve to false; whatever you wish for scaling 6. Start the game and you should be good to go This is not my own idea but found it buried down in a reply chain, think it's best to put this in a separate comment so other people can find it easier. Caveats: Dog doesn't work for me, all black. Any texture changes will reset your character to black and you will need to repeat the process again.
I've been able to edit the patches, but having trouble applying them to the game. I have saved the patch file in the same folder as the Xenia launcher. Is this correct, or is there a different way to apply?
Everything is working great, thank you. Although, i have noticed when increasing the draw resolution scale there seems to be some texture issue when entering any sort of menu, this seems to happen fairly often and is quite jarring, so its making me hesitant to increase the resolution despite the game looking so much better at 1440p. The strobing effect was fixed with the addition to the patch that you recommended, but this texture issue seems to be persistent. It only happens for a second or two and it does fix itself, but it just looks like the textures are corrupted for a split second but it is quite noticeable. Any tips or recommended fixes that you know of? Thanks! :)
Afraid I have nothing for that. I'm not sure it will ever be fixed if it's specifically caused by upscaling. Even if Xenia is in a perfect state it's not the emulators problem, rather it's just a side effect of upscaling, and I have no idea where I'd start to make a patch unfortunately.
I went and modified each patch version of the game and saved it properly but the game wont recognize the patch, is there some other way to connect the patches to the game or is my version of the game messed up. like the game runs but the patches wont go through. plz any recommendations..?
I've been waiting to be able to play Fable 2 on PC since Fable 3 was ported, and now not only is it possible but it has mods?! 😢 😭 we really do live in the best time for gaming. All these awesome romhacks, mods and ports of so many great older games. Only a matter of time till the Fable 1 devtool is leaked. 😉 would be great if that happened.
Your gameplay looks so crisp. I'm trying to figure out why mine is blurry. I did see you mention you're using the June 18th Canary build so I may downgrade to that one. Other than that you're really helping me relive this classic, it's been perfect so far!
@@NotJustSomeGuy yeah I have it on 2 and I'm also running the FXAA and FSR which seemed to improve it. Gonna finally test the version of canary and see if that could be the issue. Specs: 3900X Ryzen 9 2080 Super 32GB DDR4 3200MHz

Great and comprehensive tutorial. I really thought of playing Fable 2 via streaming, but the potential input lag made me reconsider and take some time to configure the emulation. And here I have a problem: after applying fixes and patches the game works fine most of the time apart from an occasional crash or major freeze, but the dog's model gets really, REALLY glitchy after entering the Bower Lake Tomb, similarly to the strobe effect that the aforementioned fixes should take care of + getting transparent in some cases (the glitch appear always after entering a new area). Did I do something wrong? I have enabled the morph patch and disabled the readback resolve (had to rearrange it after finishing childhood, since both the dog and Sparrow were completely black)
Great instruction, thanks a lot for the info! Your patches are wild One note: there is a Russian localization for Fable II - Game of the year edition that has version v1.2, but it actually has hash of "your" 10.1 version, and all your patches are compatible with it

@@agentsmith6161 yes, the dog still explodes with polygons, so you need to change its breed with a potion (in-game feature, here is an instruction in the video) From what I noticed, the game version is actually 10.1, but for some strange reason it is marked as 1.2, probably due to localization process

@@agentsmith6161 I also had to play at pretty low resolution on my 2060 with Ryzen 3600, so can't help here Apart from the dog, everything else is very consistent. I had no crashes, but I backed up my saves every time I saved, just in case

hey this is incredible except with the newer version of canary with profiles it does let me save since Fable doesnt see the profile... Fixed this by finding a version of canary that used its own built in profile.

Hey Guy thanks for putting this all together! I have been looking forward to replaying this one forever. One question/issue regarding the patches, it seems my version aligns appropriately and I have enabled each of the patches via text editor as well as saved them, but Xenia is till not activating them upon boot. Is there perhaps a simple step in there that may be causing this? Thanks again!
I would uninstall Xenia and reinstall and try again. Make sure your fable patch is next to the Xenia launcher to be safe! I literally did this just now and it worked! But now I’m struggling with crashes before I can even get my 5 gold

Hello friend! I appreciate the effort but I still have that strobing light issue from the dog. I took all the necessary steps from your guide. I use Nvidia's V-sync from the control panel instead of Xenia's V-Sync and I didn't have enough money to change my dog's breed. Do you thing that is what is causing the issue? Thanks in advance! PS: Strobring light issue is gone after I change the dog's breed. I finished the game with almost 0 issues! I had lots of fun playing this! Thank you! Guys make sure to use V-Sync from your gpu control panel, a fps cap to reduce input lag and force AF to 16X from control panel as well. Game is more then playable and very fun!

Thank you very much for making this video. I was a huge fan of the original Fable but I'm a PC gamer so I never played the second one. I was recently reminded of Fable and thought I'd give 2 a try. I figured they had released a PC version by now but of course not. Why does Fable and Fable 3 have PC versions but not 2? Anyways I've set everything up how you recommended and am looking forward to playing the game. Hopefully I get lucky and won't have too many crashes. The only thing I've really used Xenia for before is for Banjo-Kazooie to see how much of an improvement it was from the original. I played through almost the whole game and don't recall any crashes but I realize it depends on the game you are running.
11 months late, but fable 2 never got a pc port because Microsoft wanted lionhead to work on fable 3 right away. A PC port was in the works before being brushed off by MS.

Playing during the character's childhood, I'm having a problem as if I were affected by King Crimson, Diavolo's stand. The character performs the action but it is not shown on the screen and the game continues to run ok.
I know I'm a bit late to the party, but I'm having one slight issue, being that for some reason, many audio clips do not play, or play halfway into themselves. I did everything the same way as you did, and I have the correct version, so I am quite a bit dumbfounded as to why it happens. If anybody got a fix, I'd be thankful.
He can't say it without his channel getting nuked, but the "legal" ways being a pain, costing an insane amount of money, and leaving you with subpar game versions are largely inconsequential when you're a Google search away from the better-than-legal ways of getting the best version.
Shucks, the game used to work almost perfectly for me. Now I wanted to play again, and unfortunately with the resolution scaler I always have problems with the flashing lighting.
Ngl I chuckled a little when you stated that you needed a "high end" PC to emulate Fable 2 and then you stated at minimum a 970. I haven't had a 970 since 2015 lmao I think my 4090 will be fine lol
Ye, I should have said high end recommendation rather than requirement. A 970 is gonna be on par with console performance, at which point I'd rather play on a console. There's a surprising amount of people trying to play on decade old hardware who complain because they can't run DX12
Thank you for the video and work! "strobing light" is resolved but I am having terrible performance issues. I applied the changes and the scene right before visiting the castle looks fine. As soon as the castle starts, lags and ghost visuals give me a headache. The cutscene video performance is also good. Right after the castle, the character and the dog look black. Plus performance issues are troublesome. No crash and save issues. Would you have any recommendations to try?
Use the Disable Texture Morph Patch to fix the black textures, but you cannot use dyes or tattoos without carrying out some specific steps to do so. For performance make sure you have the Disable MSAA patch on. For both of these you must be on GoTY however.

@@thegodmc Erm not really*. The patch should've fixed it. Only dyes and tattoos should prevent it from working. I'd recommend deleting and redoing the patch file, but if the other patches are working then I'm not sure what would cause it. Are you sure you're on 10.1 and are not using any title updates? *Well there's readback resolve but I'm assuming you don't want that if performance is a concern
Thank you for your reply. I have been experimenting with the game with different settings and now “Disable MSAA” and “High Tick Rate” are set to FALSE. No more dark characters. It is fixed. The only problem is the performance. When the game starts, all good but after a minute, it becomes laggy. I wonder if something else causes a bottleneck. I set Xenia on the Nvidia panel to make sure it is not on integrated GPU (not sure if this interrupts it). I played the entire Gears of War series and had no issues at all. Additionally, it is 10.1 and I can confirm that

There is no vsync_fps in the config file and the 600p patch makes the game crash on launch every time

I have been wanting to re-play this game for YEARS (without having to re-buy a used 360 and track down another copy of Fable II) the guide worked perfectly! Now I can re-play this masterpiece in 2x native resolution 60 FPS.. on my PC! Dog is still a little funky but he's not pitch black anymore so I'll take it haha. Thank you for this!!

just wanted to say thank you this is the only way to play fable 2 and now I can play it with 60fps with a faster menu better resolution and the best is having my character actually show up and no more weird flickering. Just need to remember to back up my saves just in case. Thank you for the hard work
the further you get into the game, and the stronger your spells get, are going to crash the game more often. Also, people with amd gpu's are plagued with so many more crashes. It's very annoying, but haven't had any issues with my save getting corrupted but I still back up saves while the game is running and rename them as well so I can keep track. Always save after you've done a very annoying puzzle or something lol. I'm currently trying to find a good driver and xenia canary version that can work well with my terribly optimized amd gpu so it doesnt crash so much

Thank you so much Guy! I tried to play Fable 2 on xcloud and too me it was unplayable with 600mgbs download speed due to how laggy and blurry the game was. If you play on Xenia it's a great experience after you install Guy's patches. The only thing I can is that I had a scare where my save file corrupted because the game crashed while I was saving and had played multiple hours before backing it up like Guy said. Luckily you can use your chapter save as your main save and not lose all of your progress. I would highly recommend having your backup save window, and game file window open, and almost any time you save or do something tedious in the game, just copy your file over. Still an amazing experience and have been enjoying it.

Just finished the first one for the first time since I was a kid, and I’ve never played 2 ! I was able to get 3 from g2a and redeem it on steam, but had to do some fancy footwork in the game files to get it to run (capped at 30😔)

When I first got my xbox 360 when I was about 12 years old I got the fable 2 with the xbox. And it was hell of a fun game and I love the english the story and the living. Its like a skyrim world but in a british medieval world with scary creatures, pretty a horror game adventure. I just wish they had it on Switch etc. I use switch mostly whole time as my laptop lags a lot can only handle diablo 2 and widescreen games. But my Switches handles games very good so had been happy if it had exist in there.

It's an utter travesty this was never ported to PC properly and fans have to make their own programs and patches just to play the game they love. it will work with a gtx 1060, but you will be playing with low fps, so just keep the 60 fps patch disabled, as it causes some issues in some parts of the game

And for those who have been facing issues with patches not loading even after applying them from "false" to "true";
I don't know why, but an older version of Xenia Canary can load the patches while the newer one cannot.
I was facing the same issue loading patches on the latest version of Xenia Canary. I kind of thought that I would check an older version and see how that works out.

Made the mistake of buying the xCloud subscription. 1G internet connection via Ethernet and the quality drop is craaaazy. 1080p and capped at 30 fps...

Try modifying your save's Fable2Pubinfo.xml file to change the SharedInventoryMask value to 32767.

Half-Working Morality Morphs Guide:
1. Quit out of game and Xenia
2. Turn off the fable 2 disable morphs patch in config file
3. Set readback resolve to true, and set resolution scaling to 1
4. Restart game, load in, save and exit
5. Keep the disable morphs patch OFF (Important), but reset read back resolve to false; whatever you wish for scaling
6. Start the game and you should be good to go
This is not my own idea but found it buried down in a reply chain, think it's best to put this in a separate comment so other people can find it easier.
Caveats: Dog doesn't work for me, all black. Any texture changes will reset your character to black and you will need to repeat the process again.
I've been able to edit the patches, but having trouble applying them to the game. I have saved the patch file in the same folder as the Xenia launcher. Is this correct, or is there a different way to apply?

the best you can do is use the post-processing settings which do sharpen the game a bit

Will you ever create a patch so that my character appearance can change? I want to see the effects of the corruption/purity meter
Everything is working great, thank you. Although, i have noticed when increasing the draw resolution scale there seems to be some texture issue when entering any sort of menu, this seems to happen fairly often and is quite jarring, so its making me hesitant to increase the resolution despite the game looking so much better at 1440p. The strobing effect was fixed with the addition to the patch that you recommended, but this texture issue seems to be persistent. It only happens for a second or two and it does fix itself, but it just looks like the textures are corrupted for a split second but it is quite noticeable. Any tips or recommended fixes that you know of? Thanks! :)
Afraid I have nothing for that. I'm not sure it will ever be fixed if it's specifically caused by upscaling. Even if Xenia is in a perfect state it's not the emulators problem, rather it's just a side effect of upscaling, and I have no idea where I'd start to make a patch unfortunately.
I went and modified each patch version of the game and saved it properly but the game wont recognize the patch, is there some other way to connect the patches to the game or is my version of the game messed up. like the game runs but the patches wont go through. plz any recommendations..?

I've been waiting to be able to play Fable 2 on PC since Fable 3 was ported, and now not only is it possible but it has mods?! 😢 😭 we really do live in the best time for gaming. Great and comprehensive tutorial. I really thought of playing Fable 2 via streaming, but the potential input lag made me reconsider and take some time to configure the emulation.
And here I have a problem: after applying fixes and patches the game works fine most of the time apart from an occasional crash or major freeze, but the dog's model gets really, REALLY glitchy after entering the Bower Lake Tomb, similarly to the strobe effect that the aforementioned fixes should take care of + getting transparent in some cases (the glitch appear always after entering a new area). Did I do something wrong? I have enabled the morph patch and disabled the readback resolve (had to rearrange it after finishing childhood, since both the dog and Sparrow were completely black)
Changing dog breed through the potions you get from murgo will fix the dog glitching, if you have the DLC.

One note: there is a Russian localization for Fable II - Game of the year edition that has version v1.2, but it actually has hash of "your" 10.1 version, and all your patches are compatible with it

@@agentsmith6161 yes, the dog still explodes with polygons, so you need to change its breed with a potion (in-game feature, here is an instruction in the video)
From what I noticed, the game version is actually 10.1, but for some strange reason it is marked as 1.2, probably due to localization process

Apart from the dog, everything else is very consistent. I had no crashes, but I backed up my saves every time I saved, just in case

hey this is incredible except with the newer version of canary with profiles it does let me save since Fable doesnt see the profile... Fixed this by finding a version of canary that used its own built in profile.
Couldn't get the dye work around to work, mild annoyance compared to the slew of other things fixed though.

Hey Guy thanks for putting this all together! I have been looking forward to replaying this one forever. One question/issue regarding the patches, it seems my version aligns appropriately and I have enabled each of the patches via text editor as well as saved them, but Xenia is till not activating them upon boot. I would uninstall Xenia and reinstall and try again. Make sure your fable patch is next to the Xenia launcher to be safe! I literally did this just now and it worked! But now I’m struggling with crashes before I can even get my 5 gold

Hello friend! I appreciate the effort but I still have that strobing light issue from the dog. I took all the necessary steps from your guide. I use Nvidia's V-sync from the control panel instead of Xenia's V-Sync and I didn't have enough money to change my dog's breed. Do you thing that is what is causing the issue? Thanks in advance!
PS: Strobring light issue is gone after I change the dog's breed. I finished the game with almost 0 issues! I had lots of fun playing this! Thank you! Guys make sure to use V-Sync from your gpu control panel, a fps cap to reduce input lag and force AF to 16X from control panel as well. Game is more then playable and very fun!

Thank you very much for making this video. I was a huge fan of the original Fable but I'm a PC gamer so I never played the second one. I was recently reminded of Fable and thought I'd give 2 a try. I figured they had released a PC version by now but of course not. Why does Fable and Fable 3 have PC versions but not 2? Anyways I've set everything up how you recommended and am looking forward to playing the game. Hopefully I get lucky and won't have too many crashes. The only thing I've really used Xenia for before is for Banjo-Kazooie to see how much of an improvement it was from the original. I played through almost the whole game and don't recall any crashes but I realize it depends on the game you are running.
11 months late, but fable 2 never got a pc port because Microsoft wanted lionhead to work on fable 3 right away.
A PC port was in the works before being brushed off by MS.

Hi! Works great so far. However I have noticed that audio often doesnt sync with character models when they talk. I am only in childhood so hopefully this works itself out?
Playing during the character's childhood, I'm having a problem as if I were affected by King Crimson, Diavolo's stand. The character performs the action but it is not shown on the screen and the game continues to run ok.
I know I'm a bit late to the party, but I'm having one slight issue, being that for some reason, many audio clips do not play, or play halfway into themselves. I did everything the same way as you did, and I have the correct version, so I am quite a bit dumbfounded as to why it happens. If anybody got a fix, I'd be thankful.
He can't say it without his channel getting nuked, but the "legal" ways being a pain, costing an insane amount of money, and leaving you with subpar game versions are largely inconsequential when you're a Google search away from the better-than-legal ways of getting the best version.

Shucks, the game used to work almost perfectly for me. Now I wanted to play again, and unfortunately with the resolution scaler I always have problems with the flashing lighting.

Ngl I chuckled a little when you stated that you needed a "high end" PC to emulate Fable 2 and then you stated at minimum a 970. I haven't had a 970 since 2015 lmao I think my 4090 will be fine lol
Ye, I should have said high end recommendation rather than requirement. A 970 is gonna be on par with console performance, at which point I'd rather play on a console. There's a surprising amount of people trying to play on decade old hardware who complain because they can't run DX12
Thank you for the video and work! "strobing light" is resolved but I am having terrible performance issues. I applied the changes and the scene right before visiting the castle looks fine. As soon as the castle starts, lags and ghost visuals give me a headache. The cutscene video performance is also good. Right after the castle, the character and the dog look black. Plus performance issues are troublesome. No crash and save issues. Would you have any recommendations to try?
Use the Disable Texture Morph Patch to fix the black textures, but you cannot use dyes or tattoos without carrying out some specific steps to do so. For performance make sure you have the Disable MSAA patch on.
For both of these you must be on GoTY however.

@@thegodmc Erm not really*. The patch should've fixed it. Only dyes and tattoos should prevent it from working. I'd recommend deleting and redoing the patch file, but if the other patches are working then I'm not sure what would cause it. Are you sure you're on 10.1 and are not using any title updates?

Thank you for your reply. I have been experimenting with the game with different settings and now “Disable MSAA” and “High Tick Rate” are set to FALSE. No more dark characters. It is fixed. The only problem is the performance. When the game starts, all good but after a minute, it becomes laggy. I wonder if something else causes a bottleneck. I set Xenia on the Nvidia panel to make sure it is not on integrated GPU (not sure if this interrupts it). I played the entire Gears of War series and had no issues at all. Additionally, it is 10.1 and I can confirm that
