  • Eamon Wood has used a wheelchair since the age of four, when his spinal cord was damaged in a car accident. During his school years, Eamon flourished as a sportsman, and has travelled internationally as a tennis and basketball player. An adventurer at heart, he’s been on the move for a long time - but since Covid-19 hit and plans changed, he has returned to Christchurch. Now, he's getting ready to embark on a whole new adventure: parenthood. / attitudepictures

My mother never walked a day in her life due to cerebral palsy, but she birthed and raised 3 kids, was married for 51 years and was the most amazing role model every day of her life. Now that I have MS, I'm really drawing on the strength that she showed me. Eamon, you already know that you've got this and will show your daughter a different kind of normal, and she'll be a stronger, more compassionate human being for it

What a GORGEOUS episode! Eamon is an incredibly inspiring person. The way he maneuvers his wheelchair is masterful. Watching him play sport, overcome challenges and be such an awesome person, partner and parent is awe inspiring. Thank you so much for sharing this! 😀🙌🙌🙌

Your Daughter is so lucky to have such Wonderful Calm and Loving Parents, she will grow up with security and love around her. I'm so impressed how you take on any challenge and how driven you are when you reach an obstacle you don't let it phase you. Xxx

It’s amazing how we sometimes adapt ourselves to our surroundings instead of the proper way around. I’ve spent 25 years in my house with an inaccessible kitchen and not very accessible bathrooms, much like Eamon. You make it work. Being in a wheelchair makes you a problem solver, inventor, mechanic, and able to adapt to whatever life throws at you. Home renovations are extremely expensive, and it can be difficult to find someone who has experience with the needs of a household with someone in a chair and others walking. I’m hoping to redo my kitchen now that my twins are in college and I have the ability to finally change my home to suit all of us.

Lots of us have to do this; once you understand your balance, it’s not that hard. But yeah, it looks way more dangerous than it really is, I agree.

PinkMonkeyBird I’m a wheelchair user and I do NOT do this lol, but maybe I’m just a wuss 😂

@@BellaAtkins It really does depend on your level of injury, balance, type of chair, surrounding structures, age, balance and more. I’m not going to attempt this any longer since I’m in my 50s now. When I was younger I did a whole lot of risky things that I would not do today. Getting old isn’t always easy.
