Nike recently released the Kobe 4 Protro and in the process told everyone that the shoe featured a full-length Zoom bag. In reality, that was not the case. Here's why.

This ain't a fix: it's a loophole. In my opinion, this is not a true Protro; it's a retro. Fire colorway but disappointed of the lack of new "pro" tech for one of my favorite shoes of all time. $235 CAD is a lot of money for old tech and Nike should have done better in terms of notifying the change AND allowing those that bought it (like myself) a full refund even after wearing them.
Retailers were not notified either. Footlocker still had the Full Zoom in the description when it was released
Footlocker Canada today still has "Full-Length Zoom" in their description still

I owned these shoes and returned them. They were comfy, no lie, but for 175 and being sold on full length zoom i had to return em. I'm not paying 175 for a foam cushion that'll bottom out in a few months.
EDIT: FOOTLOCKER RETURNED MY RETURN AND SAID "NOPE CAN'T" even though they said they could.
NIKE ALSO SAID "NOPE WE FIXED THE MISTAKE ON OUR END ALREADY. WE DID OUR JOB."

So replacing the Lunarlon with Cushlon is bringing it up to "today's standards"... but Cushlon was released 1 year after the ORIGINAL Kobe 4... which released 10 years ago. Taking an old shoe and using old technology is Nike's definition of "Protro"?
Jacques - Will Nike make a press release about their mistake? Retailers need to correct their pages. I still see big companies like Foot Locker with the old description. Will they refund people who want one now that they know the truth?
I got mine refunded from footlocker and they told me they know it's wrong and "their IT guys are working on fixing it." Which is a load of bs because it's not a technical issue, they could just go in and fix the print but nah, my guess is footlocker is just like w/e or waiting on nike to post another news release
@@Millicente Did you already wear the shoes before you returned them? I was told online that I can't return them to Footlocker because I've already played in them.
@@Jorald Yes. I wore them, dirtied them, played in them etc. If they're telling you that you cant, tell them their page lied, so did nike. They have to let you return them but they'll also tell you to mark it as a defect in your return.

Technically it isnt the first low top kobe.
adidas the kobe 1, kobe 2 and the unreleased kobe 3 were all low top shoes. Tracy McGrady and Gilbert Arenas also preferred playing in low tops too.

Cushlon is basically a newer version of pyhlon, period. Cushlon are belongs to shoes that's around 100. These are freaking 175. Nike is shady, not buying it anymore.
Bottomline: Nike lied in the initial marketing to be able to charge a "protro" price for a shoe with less tech than the PGs... and then they changed the description on their website hoping people won't notice. Shady.

Cushlon > lunarlon. Why? Maybe it's a little more dense and lasts an extra month before it bottoms out? At a minimum it should be react if they changed up the foam. And really, they should have figured out how to implement ZoomX. Trash Nike. I was so excited too. Could have easily been one of the best shoes of all time. Kobe 4s were already up there imo.

I assume the shoes are all made or close to be made when they had the press release? How is it possible that Nike didn't know what the tech is? As the comment section says, you can not charge 175 for this kind of tech and call it a protro. This is not a mistake.

Man this video is not a good look. This definitely a soft *we have a relationship* type of video. There’s nothing protro about this sneaker, man. The whole situation is fucked and needs to be treated as such. Nike screwed the pooch.
Kobe’s thought process makes no sense. Soccer players play on a grass field in a sport where players are further apart from each other so there is a less of a chance of rolling your ankle.
From what I remember it had nothing to do with soccer. He wanted weight reduction.
Tennis is low cut too.
The soccer inspiration came from the types of moves they are making, the cut alot and have quicker movements. Same with tennis as said above and they were always low cut shoes. Before the Kobe 4, basketball shoes ONLY came in MID CUT shapes
@@Bliu2th incorrect. In the 70s and 80s the low cut was somewhat popular. Adidas Top Ten and Converse Weapon came in low, that was two of the most popular shoes of their time

Troll colorway, lol Why have Vlade and Shaq, Addias had some cool stuff, but European styling did not match American tastes. Air Bacons were nice ball shoes, and the Zooms I'm not sure the actual name blue and black high tops, was nice The Eight Jordan Eights, my Favorite style, past, but the comfort is just so so.

@@kevinseveneleven This is first generation flywire. The current flywire does work. If it's free flowing dynamic flywire with the laces going through them you feel the tightening by the cables. First gen flywire was just some kind of thread on plastic which didn't do anything much.
