Awesome! This is so helpful. I saw the "member connect" button but stayed away from it because I thought it was going to contact them. I'm excited to have something new to play with! Thank you so much!
Wow. I’ve been on ancestry for years and never knew of this feature. Thank you! I also uploaded my profile to GEDMatch and they have a much smaller but descent ancestry search that gives you the emails of other genealogists.
I forgot how useful the member connect tool is! I stumbled on it awhile back but didn't realize a lot of what you covered here. As always, really good info! Thanks, Debbie Jones
Before this video the only place I used Member Connect was from the Help tab and then clicking Community. I never really got much out of it. Thanks for the video. I think this is going to be more helpful than a lot of things I have tried to maybe break my last 2 brick walls.
Awesome video! I didn't know about the member connect and I would have assumed what you said that it was a email option rather than a follow option. I agree that they should change the verbiage to follow.
I use Member connections often, especially when I hit a snag...mostly looking for more documentation. But I also use the Remove button more than occasionally, for those who have really sloppy or WRONG trees. I know I won’t see them again. Here’s a question though; if you remove them at this point, does the Algorithm genie still use those trees for hints? I’d love to turn that off too. 😳🥺. Thanks for sharing!
1st off ... this is AWESOME information! I didn't know Member Connect existed!! I think I had it confused with Member Search (which is confusing). It wasn't until the 3rd or 4th ancestor I checked that I saw any suggested connections, but when I found one it has 13!! suggested connections! 2nd, re "Recent Member Connect Activity" - I had to add it back to my Home page (no biggie), but when I did, there is no link to update filter settings. But ... in upper right corner is a "See More" button, which opens it as a new page with list of activity filters showing. All items were checked off .. I updated by unchecking a few, but when return to Home page, still no link to update filters. 3rd re "Remove" - Any way to move them back to Suggested Connections?
Thank you for your video - very helpful If I wanted to collect all records of a person from a trusted Member Connect, is there a method without comparing every record first?
Not really Kevin. The whole idea there is to evaluate each piece of evidence for yourself, to make sure that it is accurate. We don’t want to just copy everything from another tree and make the assumption that it is correct.
@@GenealogyTV LOL! No problem! The video was really informative all on it's own. The handouts are just nice reminders for me to utilize the methods in my research. :-) I was playing around with it yesterday and discovered some new records for my deceased father that had not shown up in hints, or that I had not thought to search for...so I already benefited from it. Also discovered a few people had wrong B/M/D date info in their trees for my grandmother.
Thanks for this. Member connect can be very informative. I was unfamiliar with the tools. I use to get updates of sorts on the bottom of my home page when someone corrects a person of someone I have in my tree. Is this a part of the member connect somehow? If not, would you explain how and why that come about?
I have a section called Recent Member Activity that is suppose to connect with Member Connect, but I've not seen any updates there recently. I have an older subscription, so my dashboard might look different.
2:33 you say you can email the member. Unless you have a members email address, you cannot email them through Ancestry! You mention emailing a member but this message system is not email! You can Message them through the clunky, lousy message system that Ancestry is offering, but it is not an "email" system (IMHO). Ancestry should improve their message system to allow attachments! My message system take over 20 seconds to load. Every other page loads instantly, so why is the message page taking so long?
If you upload your data on GEDMatch and search “one to all” for ancestry it will give you actual emails of other genealogists. I prefer the ancestry site since it’s bigger and clean cut.
@@lautaroaguilar9584 I use Gedmatch. If the name of the person in Ancestry is different then the name used in Gedmatch, you can't find them as I have over 40,000 Ancestry matches. Trying to tie the two together is a real pain. I added my Gedmatch Kit Number to my Profile and I encourage everyone to add their Gedmatch kit number to their Ancestry Profile.
@@LriceVT sure, you have to use different spellings to get a possible result. GEDMatch is a great tool and I’m always discovering something new with them.

Thank you Connie! Very valuable information that I did not know.

Thank you Connie. That is so awesome. I never knew what that was about.
You are so welcome!
Thank you Connie for another great video. I didn't know about the tool bar. Once I get home I plan on checking that out.
You are so welcome!
Getting this set up today! Thank you for the information.
Have fun!

Good question. I wish I knew the answer. I pretty sure it is still including all possible records and hints. Thanks.

One of your 'connection suggestions' for me I get (i.e.) Because the person is still alive ( , etc) for privacy issues "can't connect.. or follow " !
Hi Connie, I'm an Info Level Acess Channel Member but don't see the handout for this one. I'm viewing through the community tab. Thx, Debbie Jones
Thanks for the heads up. I guess I goofed. I have reposted it again in the Community Tab... this time with the link to the handout. My bad. Sorry.

Alot of my relatives used the 14 day free trail so they not even on ancestry anymore so I stopped trying to connect with them

I bet you are related to my husband then.
@@GenealogyTV I have much information and documentation on the families of Martin county, North Carolina especially around the Bear Grass area.
I have a NC website. If there is something you want to share publicly, I may consider it for the Martin County page on NCAncestry.com.
Wish it worked properly. Its never given me anything useful
I would just love to learn about my real father
