  • the Seth Thomas No. 113 - considered by many to be the finest American movement ever built for a mantel clock. See still photos of the mahogany tambour case, dial / face, and robust 3-train movement. Then see and hear the movement, up close, chiming all quarters of Westminster, and then striking 11 o'clock.

Nice clock and numerals. The clock is a mantle clock. I think about this. I also love that one.

Absolutely gorgeous and you've shown it off really well here in this video. The chime sounds great - sonorous, deep-ish and in-tune. Congratulations.
I've just won a dual-chime Gustav Becker with the Bawo & Dotter version of the Whittington chime for a very good price, so I'm chuffed.
    GAIUS

These are nice. Have one exactly like yours. Same movement. How do you adjust for fast or slow? How much are these worth?

    • @jordanbusby6231
      @jordanbusby6231 3 года назад

To adjust for fast or slow, out the small end of the key in the hole at the top of the dial, and turn left to speed up the clock, right to slow it down

You could probably find one on eBay, if the seller ships internationally. Westminster Chime clocks are great. :)

The Westminster chime actually has words to the chimes............it is a melody asking for God's protection throughout each hour of the day. An odd phrasing in stating "no foot shall slide", but it simply means that we won't fall down. That must have been a popular usage during former times in England.
LORD THROUGH THIS HOUR (first 15 minutes)
BE THOU MY GUIDE (at 30 minutes)
THAT THROUGH THY POWER (at 45 minutes)
NO FOOT SHALL SLIDE (on the 12 O'clock with the full chime of 12 notes then the 16 notes of the Westminster chime)

How can I improve the chime on my Seth Thomas clock? It sounds more like a clunk that a chime

Alexander Baby It sounds to me like the hammers are too close to the rods. Gently bend the hammers so they sit a litttle farther off the rods while at rest. This will allow the hammer to bounce off the rod after striking it and allow the note to ring.

Make sure the tip of the hammers is 1/8 of inches away from chime rod.

Are you it's a Seth Thomas, it kind of looks and sounds like a Hershrede clock, but I guess the markings identify it...

  • @babazsquare1070

Why is it striking so slow?

    • @Fred-nz9dp

That’s how they intended so you can enjoy the strikes.

Have a look at some English movements if you think that's the best ever. An Enfield westminster would blow you away!

      Hi Robert,
Yes, I often lament parting with some of the amazing clocks that have passed through my hands! When I get my shop back together I've got quite a trove awaiting attention. A garage full! I love them all but how many can you keep? I try my best to honor their history and hope someone else will enjoy them as much as me.
