Berehomet. Vyzhnytsya district, Chernivtsi oblast. Here the Carpathians begin.

Berehomet is a village of Vyzhnytsya district of Chernivtsi region.
Its name comes from the nature of the rivers on which the village is located: every spring, stormy streams struck large banks of gravel, and therefore people spoke "banks sweep" ("berehy mete" - ukr.), and the place was called Berehomet. The correctness of this theory is confirmed by the fact that there is no Berehomet outside the stormy rivers.
When people began to settle in Berehomet, nobody will say, but based on research, archival data, transfers, we can assume that it was no later than of the XV century. Why then? In those ancient times, was one of the most powerful powers of the Ottoman Empire, its rulers managed to conquer many countries. Recognized herself as a vassal of the Turkish sultan and Moldovan owner, who then belonged to Bukovyna. The people were brutally oppressed, forced to pay large taxes, and perform various duties. Fugitive peasants tried to hide as far as possible from their enslavers, and therefore the mountainous terrain, which was hard to reach through the dense forests and sparsely populated places, was considered the best treasure. Obviously, the settlers had several families, because one or two would have been afraid to fight with the bears and wolves, which were enough in this area. In addition, it was difficult to make a frame for one, and one could not spray thick enough trunks of trees. Dimensions of the then dwellings were not large, they consisted of huts and porch and sometimes barns for storing food, clothing, and the like. Everyone tried to do, as in previous homes on the lobes. Gradually, the number of people grew, children were born, new families were created, and they learned about this locality in the Suceava Cynote. The first written mention of Berehomet dates back to 1696.
In the village there is a gymnasium and 4 schools, a railway station, a forestry hospital, a hospital, a town hall and a market. The private industry is developing in the field of wood processing.
There are a few sights related to the life of the noble family of Vasylko.
The brightest building of the settlement - the Berehomet Castle, which existed at the beginning of the XX century, was not preserved in its original form. In the center there is a stone St. Michael's Church (built in 1888), also directly connected with the family of Vasylko. On the Central street, 12 preserved the former building of the summer residence of the family of Vasylko (now a village hospital) ...
Through the village flows the Seret River. There is Mount Stizhok near the river.
