This scene is one of my favorites in the entire series, Maeve and Jane are two extremely important characters for the series, and both are related by Otis, the intense friend/girlfriend and the famous problematic mother, and both are two strong female characters, I mean they have big personalities, and yet they have never met, perhaps they have seen each other, but they have never interacted, I feel that that is what makes the scene not uncomfortable, but intense.
I had completely forgotten that they'd never met before. It makes the show feel real forgettable in between seasons. Like, a season will drop, you'll watch it for a day or two, and then you'll forget the show exists for a year and a half until the next season drops. You don't care for the refresher teaser they do at the start of each year, so you enter the first three episodes of the new season going, "oh yeah! That's a thing!" at nauseum.

And Maeve had seen Jean on her educational videos, albeit briefly.
