    Ellaidhoo

Hello, in April we visited 3 islands: Athuruga, Safari Island and 3 days on Ellaidhoo to test this reef. Soon I will put online video of Safari Island.
Ellaidhoo is indeed very interesting but to enjoy this reef you need good conditions and no currents. For 2 weeks the storms were in the area and the mother was not calm.
The reef on Ellaidhoo is healthy and rich in fish, but quite deep so to film the fish closer is difficult, so you need a fairly long pole + gopro with a good stabilizer + calm sea to make a good video, so overall it is quite tiring.
On Ellaidhoo there is also another disadvantage, it is the mother that breaks on these walls and immediately moves back and swings you more and at low tide you can not easily enter the lagoon only on the diving side.
For us personally this reef is not ideal since we like to snorkel about 3 hours in the morning and 3 hours in the afternoon and observe our fish more closely, so I prefer islands like Athuruga, Angaga, Safari Island or Ihuru, Vilamendhoo or possibly combine these islands with Ellaidhoo to enrich the snorkeling.
If you go in August, it is not an ideal season especially on Ellaidhoo but it is not a rule so I wish you excellent weather to make the most of this reef. Greetings from Switzerland.

You have been so lucky! We have been in november 2024 on Ellaidhoo and sadly nearly all table corals have been dead! There was a massive coral bleaching for three weks in june. Other corals did survive.

Hello, thank you for watching my video.
This is bad news, that the corals are already starting to bleach.
Since 2016 after a massive bleaching the reefs in the Maldives they took a long time to finally start rebuilding and this bad phenomenon is already there to destroy this reef again. With climate change it seems to me that we will see more beautiful corals during snorkeling, only during diving from 15 meters and more. Too bad!!!!!

@@joannabanaszek9790 Thank you for sharing so many beautiful islands! May I ask which Maldives islands you've been to have the most impressive snorkeling conditions? And in general which islands are your favorite so far? We'll visit Bandos, Ellaidhoo and Moofushi next month, and would like to try other islands in the future for sure. :)

@@ivanaluo5315 Hello, your combination of islands may be interesting. The Ellaidhoo reef is fantastic, healthy and it is interesting if the conditions are good during your stay, since the currents are sometimes tiring. The sharks come en masse only in the evening when the staff throws out the food around 5-5.30 p.m., otherwise during the day they pass through individually. But during the show you have to get out of the water. But they are already turning around 4 p.m. before the show.
For us this reef is not ideal: a little too deep and too many currents, we prefer shallow reefs to observe and follow the fish more closely where we like to go in and out everywhere and film quietly. Sharks are not our priority, they pass through every reef.
Before the destruction of the corals in 2016 I found the reef on Vakarufalhi, Safari Island, Athuruga and Angaga to be the most beautiful, but currently the pace of reconstruction on these islands is not the same and only the reef on Athuruga is good pretty.
I can advise you to visit (after Ellaidhoo) Thudufushi (we encountered a manta ray there), Ihuru is also very interesting with the free shuttle several times a day to Vabbinfaru to complement your snorkelling, Vilamedhoo, Angaga and Athuruga, too bad that Velidhu island is closed and abandoned.
I wish you a great stay in the Maldives. Greetings.

This is really cool. We are planning to visit in August. Is it dangerous to go snorkeling and freediving outside the breakwater? Are there any dangerous tiger sharks?

    • @joannabanaszek9790

Hello and thank you for watching my video.
We were on Ellaidhoo for the first time and only for 3 days.
I think this reef is fantastic but you need good conditions to enjoy it, otherwise it's tiring. You can snorkel behind the walls.
At high tide you can go out and enter the lagoon everywhere between the walls, but at low tide only on the diving and port side. You have to be careful of the currents. The mother breaks on these walls and turns right back so all these movements are quite tiring. It all depends on the direction of the currents.
There are no dangerous sharks, so you can watch them quietly.
But they are numerous only during the evening when the staff feeds around 5pm or 5.30pm, but they are already turning around around 4pm so you can watch them before 5pm since after that you have to get out of the water at the request of the staff.
It takes place in front of bungalows upstairs.
If you have any further questions please do not hesitate and I wish you a pleasant stay in the Maldives.

We have known the Maldives since 1997 and we have made more or less one trip per year. It is our passion. To see the Manta rays you have to take a boat even on Ellaidhoo. Enjoy your stay on Ellaidhoo and excellent weather to better enjoy this reef.

Thank you so much for your kind and thoughtful reply. We are planning to stay in Ellaidhoo for 6 nights in the last week of August. We only planned to do the house reef snorkeling, but are there any excursions (boat trips) that you would recommend? Are there any excursions to see manta rays? We have never done skin scuba diving before, would you recommend that we do that too?😊

    • @joannabanaszek9790
      @joannabanaszek9790  4 месяца назад +1

@@최민정-v7v Yes you can do an excursion from Ellaidhoo to see the manta rays, without any guarantee of meeting them. We no longer do excursions to the Maldives to see the manta rays since in the past we never had this chance.
We do not dive either, we are very satisfied with our quiet snorkeling of several hours per day. And that is why we do combinations of two islands to test the maximum of reefs and see more fish since each reef is different.
