the port forwarding issue is propably that the provider doesnt allow it, you could call them and they will most likely enable it for you
He might also need to check that his ip is actually public. Some ISPs are using additional NAT layers so they don't have to use such a large IP block.
Its a possibility....but I would lean more towards bad configuration or firewall first. More providers now are using a NAT setup instead of giving each client a public IP. Its cheaper and usually that means things like Upnp are active to work so that 1000 clients dont request port forwards....I tell you cause I worked 14 years in an ISP and I cant remember one time i had to do this. But then again, Im not in the USA so things could work differently there.
for sure common ports might be block like http and email, we did that too. But this sounds more problem behind the keyboard.
@billtheunjust Assuming Hyce did the port forwarding correctly (because it's not too hard to grasp), it does sound like a CGNAT. If he could check his ISP modem and see it grabbing a 100.64.0.0/10 address (probably tucked somewhere) then it'd explain it since it wouldn't be publicly routable.
Using Hamachi would work and it's easy even if it requires everyone to have it. There's other services that'll let you just say "I want this port exposed, give me a public IP" but probably can't use the master list since the game might report the wrong IP instead of the one grabbed.
There's plenty of ways to solve the issue entirely, but then you start wiring tunnels and the web that can be.

Once you get the "Non Wifu" version of multiplayer up and going in this i would love to see you and kAN do an "oldschool" British Rail unbraked goods train where we have you up front in a steam engine, a whole load of wagons in the middle with no air cut in and kAN up the back in a brake van / caboose going all ham on the handbrake...
could make for an interesting experience especially with how hilly this game is.

For the ES&D, I think across the tracks is good enough for still on the track though.

You should use the number keys for your inventory items. You could put the comms radio in slot 1 and then you wouldn’t need to fumble around trying to pull it out. Works really well for things you need quick like shovels or maybe the map

@@Hyce777 Yeah! The hotbar in the inventory menu corresponds to 1 - = on your number row. So for example I have the comms radio locked to the 1st slot which is 1 on my keyboard. Followed by the world map, 3 and 4 are open for current jobs, 5 for station schematics, and 6 for the shovel. If you find out how you like to organize them it'll make it really easy to find what you need immediately

A neat thing to add to the game would be interchangeable whistles. I would like to see some stock models to be able to purchase in the shop, like a couple hoots and a stock chime. But for some more personalized whistles, you could find them in the engine sheds around the map or in the special garages when you unlock special vehicles like the caboose and the small electric thing and the slug. That would be a fun mechanic and sense of achievement and customization to the game.

Use a tunneling engine. Hamachi works well. I've used it for years all they way back to hosting modded Minecraft servers.
I used to have that issue because my router would do the same thing no matter how much port forwarding I messed with.
Someone else suggested that as well. Hamachi takes me back... lol! We'll give it a go.
@@Hyce777 I've yet to use it my self, but Tailscale also exists as a possibility in case Hamachi fails.

I recently ran my first train in Derail (partially from seeing some of the videos in this series and at 5:40-ish I suddenly realized why I derailed my first ever actual train. I totally forgot to open the shutoff valves on the brake lines after connecting them.... No wonder my loco brakes were red hot.

I think next you should assemble a very long train and full it with a steam engine.
Should bring another locomotive to rescue the passengers next time but leave the 060 as a monument. It has 4 wheels on the ground, I think it'd be stable without the passenger cars behind it.

Welp, time for bets I guess, Boiler explosion from running out of water or derailment on an unfamiliar long route.

you are probably using windows, you should check that the windows firewall is allowing traffic to connect. also, if your router supports UPNP you shouldn't need to mess with port forwarding, but in case you do, you need to make sure your computer has a static IP from the DHCP server on the router, and changer your adapter settings on you computer to use that static IP. you might need to turn of random MAC in windows (on personal networks you don't need this, so turn it of fin general). after all that you should be able to get people to connect, and if not... there's always Private VPNs you can try. SoftEther is a recommendation but that requires a bit of setup.

The hard part I have found with the S060 is keeping pressure OTR, it doesn't keep pressure quite like the S282, it's kind of frustrating

Have you tried turning down the firewall settings on the router/switch? To see if you can get it to work. I had to do such at work to get a catalog app to work, had to switch from high to medium security on the firewall

Hyce it sounds like you're ISP is blocking the inbound connection attempts when you are trying to host the game.
You can also cheat and use tailscale. It allows everyone to connect directly to each other rather than dealing with port forwarding. More secure and free!
I think you need to leave all the trains and cars where they are after you derail them, just clear the tracks

hey hyce, i have a question.
im making a nmbs type 1 (big 4-8-2) in model form, i visited the museum with the prototype yesterday but i still have some questions i could not figure out.
i know you probably dont know how it works on the specific prototype but im looking for a general answer to put me on the right track.
1. how does the rear bogey articulate. it has an american style rear bogey as seen on large american 4-8-2's and from what i could see the bogey itself does not have suspension and the suspension is right by the wheelset. the bogey seems to be connected by a single large pivot at the front and 2 mechanisms at the back that allow it to move siseways. how do these mechanisms work?
2. where is the boiler typically connected to the rear of the frame? from what i could see it had one at the front near the cyliners, one near the middle that was made out of significantly thinner metal to accommodate for expansion. but where and how is it connected to the back? i know it should be able to slide but i could not find where and how that works.
1. There is a single pivot at the front, and yes, a sprung-loaded centering device at the back. There's a few styles, but it's likely there is also a large flat wear plate between the frame of the trailing truck that the boiler rides on. The centering device has a big spring in the middle that tries to hold the truck evenly under the boiler.
2. Boilers are only rigidly affixed at the smoke box (for non articulateds). There are "waist sheets" that look like the connections you see in the middle, but they're a support the boiler can slide over. The firebox should have a shoe on each corner that can slide on the frame.

So you took an 0-6-0 with boxy side tanks, and coupled it into a very short train of passenger cars. And then proceeded to run it off the rails and watch it blow up. I know you like to complain about the big blue dumpster, but you really just straight up killed Thomas the Tank Engine there. LOL.
