This Ferrari was manufactured by Ferrari SpA, Maranello, Italy in 1979 for the US market. The original specification was Rosso Chiaro 20-r-190 with Beige VM3218 hide and tan carpets. The Ferrari Dino GT4 was a groundbreaking model for Ferrari in several ways: it was the first production Ferrari to feature the mid-engined V8 layout that would become the bulk of the company's business in the succeeding decades, and was the first production Ferrari with Bertone (rather than Pininfarina) designed bodywork. Pininfarina was upset by the decision to give cross-town rival Bertone the design, considering all they had done for Ferrari. The styling featured angular lines entirely different from its curvaceous 2-seater brother, the Dino 246, and was controversial at the time. Some journalists compared it to the Bertone-designed Lancia Stratos and Lamborghini Urraco, also penned by Marcello Gandini. From the cockpit the driver sees only the road. Enzo Ferrari himself took a major role in its design. the GT4 proved to be a splendid sports GT with sharp handling and excellent road manners, thanks to its short wheelbase, 240/255 horsepower engine, and gated shifter manual gearbox. A two-liter ‘tax saver’ variant, unique to the Italian market, made its debut in 1976 and still remains the smallest engine to ever be put in any Ferrari.

Nice video and Nice talk about this great 308 GT4. Mine is from Oct 1979, also Rosso Chiaro. Please note that there is a missing aluminum underbody sheet in the front of the car hiding the cooling pipes. For me, and this is not showcased is the great instrument panel and dashboard !!! Beautiful 👌

Great video. So glad Steve gave Tony Willis such a good mention. I have known Tony for more than 25 years and in fact when he was at Coopers he sold my own 308GT4, which I have now owned for 10 years, to the first owner back in August 1979. Tony has been most generous in recounting his memories of that but also helping me with providing historical data to other GT4 owners here in UK. A lovely man.
I also don't mind making some mods to my car to make it work better in a more modern way though doing so in a reversible way and not changing the general appearance of the car. So I have a Stebro (now defunct) stainless steel exhaust with ceramic coated headers and pipes (fitted by the previous owner,) modern cooling fans and a retro DAB radio. I wouldn't go as far as all the graphic equalizers etc but each to their own. I do quite like the idea of a more modern AC compressor. Mine does work but it is not impressive.
But as Steve said. These cars are totally underrated and a real joy to drive. Just like a big go-kart.

Congratulations. 🎉. I could to listen to your ex F1 expert for hours and no criticism intended but the young chief should let him yarn more as this is golden , men!. I believe this car is literally the most undervalued exotic car on earth. The shake is so vogue. It is a Lamborghini, stratos, Enzo was seeped in its development and it is the GOAT V8 4 cam flat plane. Time will prove this the case .pity I sold one 12 years ago.

They want $100k over the value of this car, for a bore job. Takes big balls to call a flaw a feature.
