this reminds me of how in doll customization, sometimes to shrink the vinyl doll head the artist soaks it in acetone. Initially, the vinyl expands and turns softer, but once removed from the acetone and allowed to dry the vinyl shrinks down in size and also becomes harder. Maybe the hitohada gel recipe includes vinyl, and would react similarly in hand sanitizer as the vinyl doll head in acetone? Interesting to think about... :)

5:20 Its really common to use hand sanitizer for small specimins! I've used this method for preserving bugs, and it does actually work much the same way that it did for the squishies

The Sophie & Toffee squishy gel is likely a standard platinum silicone with other soft materials/deadener to give it extra squish with a release agent added that's meant to be used intrinsically (like hi-ro slip!). Used a lot in prosthetic mould making for makeup fx :)

So most hand sanitizers are made of Glycerine Gel and isopropyl alcohol, with things like added scents and colorants. The reason it changed texture after two years is that the alcohol breaks down parts of the glycerine and also whatever aids In giving it its smell. Hand sanitizer cannot "go bad" and will never be any more dangerous than rubbing isopropyl on your skin- which while very drying- is completely safe.

Listen,in my room right now, I know for a FACT that there is a completely full, never opened bottle of normal school handsanitizer you know like the ones in green ? I know for a FACT it has been there for like 3 or 4 YEARS and I REFUSE to throw it away because it has been there for so long, it is completely a liquid, it probably smells absolutely disgusting and who knows what else it could do. But I REFUSE to throw it away because when I look at it I just get reminded of all the years of school that have happened.
These are more mochi squeeze toys rather than squishies because i collect squishies and their made of foam but you can call them whatever you would like just my definition of a squishy

Last year, I watched your video about the jelli worldz hand sanitizer trick. Since I had to make a school diorama for penguins I used this trick to suspend some polymerclay penguins. For some odd reason there was a pink lumpy foam at the top and the penguins had dissolved. Anyways, great video as always!
I really liked chemistry until it got too mathematical 😂. I love learning about how different things interact together but can't handle calculating how many atoms on each molecule etc 😆
