- John Mack, former Morgan Stanley CEO, talks about surviving the financial crisis of 2008, working on Wall Street and federal regulation. He's on "The David Rubenstein Show: Peer-to-Peer Conversations." This was recorded Aug. 4 in New York.
At 18:35 I felt that when he mentioned the delivery guy. I used to work as a delivery guy and went to Morgan Stanley, NYC, actually everyday. I gotta say everyone from the freight operators to the traders, everyone always treats me with respect. Thank you Mr. John Mack

I met John Mack twice. Once while at Duke business school when he was visiting with Dick Fischer. Then I met with him when I was at Credit Suisse. He agreed to meet with me to talk me out of accepting a lucrative offer from Lehman in 2008. He fortunately convinced me to stay. A real class act. Both he and Dick Fischer.
You HAVE to admire this man's approach to life...just bought his book...
Anytime I see John Mack, I think of that line from the movie “Too Big To Fail” and the actor who played Mack, Tony Shahloub.

A true legend I was fortunate enough to work at Credit Suisse when he was CEO. Some of the best years of CS were under John Mack.

I have joined MS in June 2008 right before the crisis really kicked in and remained witht he firm for 11 years. Without Mr Mack's leadership, transparency and committment MS would have not made it. I still recall the almost daily frequency global town halls with him and Colm Kelleher during September 2008.
personally,I think people should venture Into t rading since the economic meltdown, having one stream of ìncome is not really a good idea
Most time having knowledge or !!nsight about a particular activity can as well be a pleasing exrcise.

3 Sales Tips (REALLY good ones)
1. Always say: this may not be for you.
2. Ask them why they think the product is a fit - asking this they might start telling themselves why they want it
3. Ask the prospect why they booked the call and why now is the good time to get started

When I was working in investment banking we used to call him Mac the Knife. Maybe because it sounder cool, or maybe because he cut jobs.
Couldn't make it as a trader. Didn't make Samberg a dime. Bailed out by the Japanese. Come on, MAN!
I love how these banking execs from the 2000s talk about the recession like "oh my, it was so tough, boo hoo" as if they didnt create the mess in the first place. People became homeless and lost pensions because of these guys' greed.

They take big risks, play with other people's money (which really is credit to begin with), over-lever, create destructive financial derivatives which are pure gambling and speculative instruments (nothing genius about them), understand deeply that they will ge bailed out if their 'scheme' crashes. No jail time or consequences for them to crash the world economy while the common man/woman suffers.
How dare you bring such con-men from wall street and elevate them to being a hero. The entire nation is trapped in debt from these 'geniuses' who create synthetic instruments to gamble on. Absolute shameless interview.
