    Greetings from Chicago, Andy...I love your channel. I have had the LAB Directed Force 2.1 for 3 years now and it is truly amazing...while my two Scotties sit in the closet. The LAB is absolutely deadly within 8 feet, and it puts a very true roll on putts. The science is real, and I understand some people won't game it because of how it looks. I liked mine so much I had them put the stability shaft in. I never spent so much on a putter but nothing compares to its performance. You absolutely need to get fitted for it, however. Keep up the good work!

    I game a Cleveland Huntingdon Beach 6 centre shaft and it made sense the first time I tried it. Off centre hits and poor strikes still roll well but the putter doesn't feel like it tries to twist.
    Great review of this little known club and for explaining the tech in layman's terms.

    You are an Ambassador of the most intriguing golf equipment! Sometimes the clubs that would work the best for us are not the one with the most flash appeal therefore we all could benefit by expanding our horizons and giving some of these new items a chance. Worst that can happen? We decide what we have suits our game best and just resell the item if it’s not our cup of tea. No biggie.

    The technology certainly makes sense. Golfers do have to swing the club as you noted in the video. The setup looked great and you put a nice stroke on the balls you hit. The price? It will encourage those who believe in the theory. and can afford the premium to buy it. The technology is spot on. However, we mortals have to deal with the 2 factors which are most important, reading the green and judging the distance of each putt. Thank you so much for your fantastic videos, I live across the pond in the USA and always look forward to your videos, which are always insightful!

    I've been using a LAB Direct Force for a year or so now. I really like it - it certainly feels that, when I miss a putt, it's my fault and I can't blame the equipment.
    It is expensive, of course, but I justified the outlay to myself with the thought that people seem okay with drivers being £450 plus and I'll be using the putter a whole lot more than my driver (which, to be honest, spends most of its time in disgrace in the boot of my car...).
    I have no regrets at all in buying the LAB putter - even with the occasional "branding iron" comments I get. As you say, Andy, the science made sense to me, and it is certainly proving to be effective.

  • @markmaioli4

    Good summation of what LAB putters are about Andy. The lie angle balanced face is the real deal. I've been playing a B.2 for 9 months now after trying a used BLĀD.1 for a while. It's super easy to keep a square face at impact.
    The main thing you have to get used to is NOT manipulating putter face, which you're used to doing with any other putter.
    I believe that tour pros won't change if they are already good putters because they've implanted that manipulation into their technique. In the coming years you may see ounger elite players (without so many years of putter prejudice) or tour pros who need some help with their putting could be the ones to give the Mezz or B.2 a chance

It took a few days to get used to the new grip but when I did, I was able to reduce the # of putts I required per round (about 5 per round less). My golf buddies were also able to notice the drastic improvement in my putting. Once I got the pace and line correct, I was almost always 2 putting max.

    I'm a big fan of LAB putters and I have data to back up my opinion. I use Shotscope to record my rounds. The 3 yrs of data prior to getting a LAB putter showed that in strokes gained for putting, compared to a scratch golfer, I was consistently almost -4. With the DF2.1 that dropped to -2.75. Since I started using the Mezz, I'm now at -0.95. So far, of all the equipment changes I've made in my bag since I started playing golf, it's made the most significant improvement to my score.

    I think it might all be emperors new clothes. When you use a putter it’s anchored to you arms via your hands. It only moves as your hands dictate . So allowing a putter to fall or move freely it’s unrealistic to what happens when you put. It doesn’t move on it’s own in accordance with gravity , it moves with your hands. A good putter is one you feel confident with.

      Have you tried the Mezz or the DF putter? Do you understand the technology behind it? If No, then how can anyone judge whether its good or not? All putters want to open as you swing back so YOU have to control it. You have to always fight this torque. With either of these putters the face will not open or close on its own as you swing back, unless your faulty stroke moves it that way. You can hold it as lightly as possible and it will not open, unlike all others.

    • @Golfzilla70
      @Golfzilla70 Год назад +1

      No doubt stroke is important, but this is one of those things you have to try and see for yourself. I've gamed the DF 2.1 for a couple of years now, and whenever i try a more "normal" looking putter (not lie-angle balanced), the effort to fight the face moving lights up in my brain like a Christmas tree. I'd say if someone hooked up some sort of sensors all over your hands and compared data while putting both types of putters, it would likely show some effort required to manipulate the putter head while the LAB putter wouldn't show it. But the only evidence i have of it is what i've felt myself.

    Just came across this vid today and had to throw in my two cents' worth: I've owned and played the Directed Force 2.1 for the past couple of years (i'm about a 3 handicap). I wasn't a bad putter to begin with, but when you go through the yips you'll try anything. Anyway, this putter is well worth the money. The tech is real, and while it's not fool-proof (it can still be yipped just like any other putter), you CAN feel the difference in your hands comparing this putter NOT MOVING with other putters "fighting" your stroke. I'd like to hear how you're doing with it now. After i'd played my LAB putter for about 2 months, I went back just to try my old putters out just for fun, and I couldn't stand them - you can really feel them fighting you compared to the smoothness of the LAB.
    In any case, i find it a cheap investment comparatively speaking. I played an old Ping Pal my Dad bought me new from about 1985 to around 2012. Then i switched to the TR Ping Pal (that one had the variable face grooves in it, and was a little heavier, so definitely better). I finally took the plunge on this back in early 2020, and i positively can't IMAGINE putting with anything else ever again. Perhaps something nicer will come along in the future, but odds are i'll have this thing in play for the rest of whatever life i have left. I can't say that for these $500 drivers that come through every season though. I can still move the clubhead over 100 mph, and i like to practice. In all honesty, i just enjoy hitting balls with no real goal in sight. It's good therapy for me. But I digress. These thin-faced drivers today just CAN'T take a constant beating - I've had 5 different drivers over the past 6 years, and every one of them wound up with a cracked face (but still under warranty). And my clubspeed isn't all that fast, at least not anymore. So while I haven't spent a whole lot of money on new drivers (because of warranties), it makes me very weary of buying used drivers online. Compare that $500 investment with the LAB $500 investment that should last decades if not abused, and you'll see the real value of it. Not to mention it's the most technologically advanced putter in the game today, naturally :)
    So you've got me, i'm a new subscriber! Great vid!

    Played 2 rounds so far. Its amazing. I have missed 2 lines in 2 rounds, both were bad swings. I made 5 or 6 putts outside 10', i even made a couple that were bad putts (not perfect strikes). I'm a pretty good putter(7 handicap), but this thing has me on another level.
    If you have a crap stroke, you will still have crap putts. But if you have a fairly decent stroke and struggle with a slight push or pull occasionally this is a magic wand. I also find that the leaned shaft and straight grip allow you to catch the ball on the upstroke while setting up in the middle of your stance.
    Its the most amazing club i have ever used.

    Intriguing video. It'd be interesting to see you take putt with this putter and your old gamer, say 20 random putts on a green with each and then compare statistics. If, over those 40 putts, you holed a significantly bigger percentage of putts with the LAB putter, that might say a lot since it'd be the same green on the same day and the same player reading and hitting the putts.

    After many years of chasing the latest marketing hype vis buying new a new driver, putter, hybrids, iron set and fairway woods I had an epiphany. I was at a golf ⛳️ galaxy store and they have GolfTec which is a lab that offers golf lessons based on science. At any rate I spoke to one of the master pros and explained the above. He just laughed and asked me what my handicap was? I answered that I shoot between 88 and 95 depending on the course. This had been the case for years. He then said if all of the marketing hype was real I should have lowered my handicap. Even though I practiced regularly. He said if I really wanted to lower my handicap then I needed to find a reliable pro that I trusted. The rest is history. The secret is! Take lessons, get better then get properly fitted for golf ⛳️ clubs.

    They do an updated version of the Mezz 1 now too. A slightly larger Mezz 1 Max. The only downside is that it’s important you get fit. And with very few stockists in the UK your left with an online video fit. Maybe do slow motion video of comparing a good swing on toe balanced/face balanced/the lab putter. See if in actual hands if the face balance or toe balance putters actually spin in your hands during the back swing or forward stroke. If they don't then I think the technology is unneeded

    • @Golfzilla70
      @Golfzilla70 Год назад

      i don't think you'd see anything. Primarily because the grip pressure applied will force the putters to follow the hands. It's the act of that "increased grip pressure" required from a tiny bit extra muscle that can cause you to get a little wayward in your putts, especially when the pressure is on in a match. At least, that's the way i see it.

    Andy, I can't argue with the wonderful results you have so far gained with this putter; if I were you I would use it and enjoy it. But I take issue especially with the gadget in the LAB video that shows the bad points about other putters--I'm not believing it. Take a face-balanced putter, hold it at the end of the grip with your thumb and forefinger, and swing it like a pendulum. The face will stay square with your target line--it doesn't act crazily like that guy is showing. Public Enemy has some wisdom about this: "Don't Believe the Hype."

    • @JamesShanks-qk8ym
      @JamesShanks-qk8ym Год назад +1

      Any amount of pressure on the grip will keep the putter from rotating.......however, on really short, downhill putts, where you tend to have "light hands", that is where I notice the benefit of the LAP putter. Face balanced or toe weighted putters "WANT" to open, then close.....which takes timing. I see lots of my mates miss very short putts because of this fact.....while I am pretty close to perfect from 6 feet in with my LAB. I can barely grip the club, let it swing back and through, and don't have to worry about timing up the opening and closing of the face.

    • @Golfzilla70
      @Golfzilla70 Год назад

      that gadget shows the extreme of what the putters are trying to do. After playing my LAB for just a couple of months, any other putter that's not lie-angle balanced feels like it's fighting my stroke. But that's just my experience, i'm sure some folks grip a putter so tight that it couldn't possibly move :)

    Recently played in a senior amateur tournament with a guy that had the DF 2.1. He didn't miss anything from 5 feet and in. After the round I simply said don't ever get rid of that putter. After that I started researching Lab golf. People don't even blink dropping $500 on a driver these days but $400-$500 for a putter and they freak. Lets face it, the putter is the precision tool in the arsenal.

    As you say, there are two things to get right, line and pace (as long as you can read greens), and the current thinking is that pace is easiest with a toe-hang putter so I find Lab golf's ad patronising. However the science might be good so I would be interested to know your average number of putts now before Mezz.1 and after about 6 rounds(at the same course). Even this won't prove it because quite often a new thought or putter improves putting and then you go back to as you were!

    • @TheAverageGolfer
