This is a bunch of crap! I ordered this exact trailer hitch... The hitch was no long enough and the bolt holes on one side did not match up... there were about an inch to an inch & half off.. Sent it back and got another one.... SAME THING.... too short and the bolt holes did not match up... Called e-trailer again.... they told be the trailer hitches sometimes "FLEX" during shipping... this stuff is steal and should not be flexing... They told me I had to use a spreader bar to get it to fit... Well, I did that and finally got the dam thing bolted on... but it was not EASY... Should have just gone to a trailer hitch business and had them install me one... DO NOT BUY THIS HITCH!
Believe it or not, what you were told is the truth. The mounting flanges of the hitch are made of a softer steel which is designed to flex along with the vehicle. Due to that, during shipping or handling the flange can get bent slightly out of shape. Here's a link to an article that explains that. www.etrailer.com/faq-my-trailer-hitch-doesnt-fit.aspx
