      You don't need to build one, you buy one and just connect the wires to a 12v battery. There is a better one that works by convection and is a bit bigger for about £25 on Amazon and it has no fan and you just put the wires on a battery and the heat just gets rotated naturally.

    Is this something I could leave on all the time even if it became cloudy or when the sun went down? Will it burn it out if there isn't enough energy coming in or will it simply run at a lower speed and temperature? I'm thinking that a couple of these would be nice in my basement after I install my heat pump so that it can offset the energy usage even more.

    • @desertsun02

      hi there. since i haven't tried all situations this is only an educated guess but since both the ceramic and the fans run proportional to the amount of power supplied to them, it should be fine to leave it hooked up. of course monitor it though to make sure.

    where do you get the solar panells from? and how do you know what size solar panelles to get so you do not blow up the heaters with to much power? also i see the panels are out side. so when you ran the wire to the panels from the fans inside to the outside, did you do so by leaving a door cracked open? or a window.

    • @desertsun02
      @desertsun02  17 дней назад

      i usually buy solar panels on amazon. they are as low as 50 dollars for a 100w panel these days. you can use any size 12v solar panel that you want. the heater will only pull the power that it needs. you could use a 1000w 12v solar panel (if they made them) but it wouldn't hurt the heater (because the heater just draws the power that it needs). i run the wires in where the door meets the 'house frame'. typically doors don't fit 100% perfect so i just run the wires in where there is a little space between the door and the door frame. you could also run them in a window

    I'm looking to do exactly this a question I have will it run underpowered? Meaning if you don't get quite enough sunlight will it still run just not as hot and not as fast or does it require an absolute minimum before leaving turn on? For example if I have a 200 watt heater and it's only getting a hundred Watts of solar will it still run just a half power?

    • @desertsun02
      @desertsun02  Год назад

      yes, you can run it under power. it's proportional to how much power it's getting. btw, if you like this i've got 2 more units similar to this that i've been working on. vids will be out in the next few weeks. one is a little smaller and one is bigger. bigger one pulls close to 20 amps at 12v and puts out tons of heat.

  • @revthomasstanley8001
    @revthomasstanley8001 4 года назад +1

    We always want more. What is your estimate time for this unit to run successfully on a 12-volt Automotive style battery. Or in some cases a deep cell battery? Any estimate on the square footage that this unit would possibly heat? Would you leave it unattended and let it run off the solar panels or 12 volt battery? I'm thinking in the way of a 12 by 28 cabin that has water inside to prevent it from freezing.

    That's awesome.
    I have a question.
    Can I have one 415 watt panel powering 4 of these directly from the panel?
    At peak I don't think the 415 watt panel outs out 415 watts, I think it's below 400 watts.
    If the panel puts out more than 400 watts could I wire up 5 heaters?
    I assume the heater load needs to be greater than the panel's output otherwise the panel would blow/damage a heater or more than one heater?
    I use a space heater for my room that is 1,500 watts and I'd like to replace it with solar panels directly wired to a heater like you did.
    Could I wire up four 415 watt panels (approx 1,400 watts) and have 15 of those 100 watt heaters all wired together?
    If so how would I wire it all up?
    Would I wire all four of the heaters together on one master switch then wire that to the panel?
    Or what that cause a problem?
    I haven't yet learned about solar power or electricity/electronics much yet.
    Thanks.

    • @desertsun02
      @desertsun02  2 года назад +1

      hey there. it's a 12v heater so you have to use a 12v solar panel. i wouldn't try using a 415 watt solar panel because they usually (if not always) have a much higher voltage (probably 40V or higher). the highest wattage 12v solar panel that i've seen is about 210 watts.

    i ordered the 100w 12v model. I have a composting toilet that draws air from inside my tiny house and out. new style composting toilets bring air from outside into the bottom and a fan pull the air out. so i'm thinking of using this to heat the outside cold air before it comes into the toilet and out. Hoping by doing this i won't have heat loss in my tiny house and not having the toilet become to cold that things will freeze during the winter months. Have you done any tests on how longs these would last ? just running one day in and day out?

      hey there. it's really pretty easy to do. the heaters have red and black wires (positive and negative) and solar panels are the same way (so all you do is hook the red wires (the positive wires) to the positive wire of the solar panel and the black wires to the negative wire of the solar panel. that is really all you need to do. solar panels often have fancy looking plugs at the end of the wires. those are called mc4 connectors. if your solar panel has those you can buy a set of bare wire cables with mc4 connectors on one end. if you use those your solar panel will have bare wire at the end of the wires.

      hi. they're called PTC 12v ceramic heaters. amazon sells lots. here's a link to one. www.amazon.com/Constant-Temperature-Heating-Conditioning-Products/dp/B082HR1GWY/ref=pd_day0_c_469_1/143-3040554-3226717?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B082HR1GWY&pd_rd_r=7a092253-5590-48a2-9b68-7bd3048bf4d7&pd_rd_w=ilwz3&pd_rd_wg=GjZyh&pf_rd_p=52c44813-ece5-43b5-85d3-aeb14689b184&pf_rd_r=641N0SBTBCAQVTP8PVDX&psc=1&refRID=641N0SBTBCAQVTP8PVDX

      hi there. any 12v power source will work (as long as it generates the amps that you need). you can run this off a 12v deep cycle battery or your cars 12v power socket. you can also run this off of wall current if you use a transformer.

    I have a small solar setup that consists of four 100 watt panels, two 100 Ah SLA batteries, a charge controller, and a 1500 watt pure sine wave inverter. I'm thinking about getting a couple of these small heaters for my greenhouse/high tunnel. I wonder how long my batteries would run them at night. Guess I'm gonna have to get them and find out. BTW, the prices for these little 12v heaters has skyrocketed. About 30 bucks for one now.

    Hi, thanks for the video. I don't understand how to connect the wiring up to the solar panel. My solar panel has mc4 connectors. Could you explain the wiring up in more details (for a dumb woman who never as much as even changed a light bulb to understand🤣)

    • @desertsun02
      @desertsun02  2 года назад +1

      hi there. they sell mc4 cables an amazon with bare wire on one end. that would be the best thing to use. then you can just twist the wires to connect it all. they only cost 5 dollars too here's a link
