You don't need to build one, you buy one and just connect the wires to a 12v battery. There is a better one that works by convection and is a bit bigger for about £25 on Amazon and it has no fan and you just put the wires on a battery and the heat just gets rotated naturally.

hi there and thanks. and thanks for subbing! i've got a few of them with thermostats. (the one i'm thinking of is the peltier cooled fridge one that i made - the blue coleman one). those thermostats are only about 5 bucks on amazon and can be used for lots of my projects
Is this something I could leave on all the time even if it became cloudy or when the sun went down? Will it burn it out if there isn't enough energy coming in or will it simply run at a lower speed and temperature? I'm thinking that a couple of these would be nice in my basement after I install my heat pump so that it can offset the energy usage even more.
hi there. since i haven't tried all situations this is only an educated guess but since both the ceramic and the fans run proportional to the amount of power supplied to them, it should be fine to leave it hooked up. of course monitor it though to make sure.
Any recommendations for a solar powered heating system for a full garage? I'm trying to find a decent heating and summer fan setup for my 3 car garage using only solar panels. Looking at setting up a 300W system.
where do you get the solar panells from? and how do you know what size solar panelles to get so you do not blow up the heaters with to much power? also i see the panels are out side. so when you ran the wire to the panels from the fans inside to the outside, did you do so by leaving a door cracked open? or a window.
i usually buy solar panels on amazon. they are as low as 50 dollars for a 100w panel these days. you can use any size 12v solar panel that you want. the heater will only pull the power that it needs. you could use a 1000w 12v solar panel (if they made them) but it wouldn't hurt the heater (because the heater just draws the power that it needs). i run the wires in where the door meets the 'house frame'. typically doors don't fit 100% perfect so i just run the wires in where there is a little space between the door and the door frame. you could also run them in a window
I'm looking to do exactly this a question I have will it run underpowered? Meaning if you don't get quite enough sunlight will it still run just not as hot and not as fast or does it require an absolute minimum before leaving turn on? For example if I have a 200 watt heater and it's only getting a hundred Watts of solar will it still run just a half power?
yes, you can run it under power. it's proportional to how much power it's getting. btw, if you like this i've got 2 more units similar to this that i've been working on. vids will be out in the next few weeks. one is a little smaller and one is bigger. bigger one pulls close to 20 amps at 12v and puts out tons of heat.
We always want more. What is your estimate time for this unit to run successfully on a 12-volt Automotive style battery. Or in some cases a deep cell battery? Any estimate on the square footage that this unit would possibly heat? Would you leave it unattended and let it run off the solar panels or 12 volt battery? I'm thinking in the way of a 12 by 28 cabin that has water inside to prevent it from freezing.

hey there. it's really pretty easy to do. the heaters have red and black wires (positive and negative) and solar panels are the same way (so all you do is hook the red wires (the positive wires) to the positive wire of the solar panel and the black wires to the negative wire of the solar panel. that is really all you need to do. solar panels often have fancy looking plugs at the end of the wires. those are called mc4 connectors. if your solar panel has those you can buy a set of bare wire cables with mc4 connectors on one end. if you use those your solar panel will have bare wire at the end of the wires.
Hello. Could you please tell me. There are two cables one black and one red and there is a third tiny cable black and red which are together. What is the cable for? Thank you
hi there. there are red and black cables for the heater and also the fan. the thinner red and black cables are for the fan (i think that is the one you are asking about) 🙂👍
hi, the heating 'coil' comes as a unit (pre-built). amazon sells them so you don't need to build that part. you can buy the ceramic chips and the fins separate if you want.
Would the heat from this setup be available only while being generated, daytime that is, or could it be stored and used in the evening when temp drops?
hi. you could store it if you wanted to. or you could run it off battery or other source at night. i'd probably use some sort of thermal mass like rocks to store the heat (but you'd have to experiment)
Freakn smart. Have you tried connecting a thermostat so it can turn on and off when a room get to a certain temperature? I wanna tr to hook one up in a camper
thanks. it should work good in a camper. i've haven't tried a thermostat on it yet, but it should be an easy addition. i recently bought two of the 12v thermostat controllers for future projects but since they are just sitting around waiting to be used i may try one on this heater
hi there. this video contains "the full-build with instructions". the heater comes pre-assembled, so other than the talk-thru - all that was needed was to show how to install the switches and the soldering. is there any part i can help you with? 🙂
hi. they're called PTC 12v ceramic heaters. amazon sells lots. here's a link to one. www.amazon.com/Constant-Temperature-Heating-Conditioning-Products/dp/B082HR1GWY/ref=pd_day0_c_469_1/143-3040554-3226717?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B082HR1GWY&pd_rd_r=7a092253-5590-48a2-9b68-7bd3048bf4d7&pd_rd_w=ilwz3&pd_rd_wg=GjZyh&pf_rd_p=52c44813-ece5-43b5-85d3-aeb14689b184&pf_rd_r=641N0SBTBCAQVTP8PVDX&psc=1&refRID=641N0SBTBCAQVTP8PVDX
hi there. any 12v power source will work (as long as it generates the amps that you need). you can run this off a 12v deep cycle battery or your cars 12v power socket. you can also run this off of wall current if you use a transformer.
I have a small solar setup that consists of four 100 watt panels, two 100 Ah SLA batteries, a charge controller, and a 1500 watt pure sine wave inverter. I'm thinking about getting a couple of these small heaters for my greenhouse/high tunnel. I wonder how long my batteries would run them at night. Guess I'm gonna have to get them and find out. BTW, the prices for these little 12v heaters has skyrocketed. About 30 bucks for one now.
Hi, thanks for the video. I don't understand how to connect the wiring up to the solar panel. My solar panel has mc4 connectors. Could you explain the wiring up in more details (for a dumb woman who never as much as even changed a light bulb to understand🤣)
hi there. they sell mc4 cables an amazon with bare wire on one end. that would be the best thing to use. then you can just twist the wires to connect it all. they only cost 5 dollars too here's a link www.amazon.com/Renogy-Controller-Connector-Adaptor-Extension/dp/B00DGXVO80/ref=sr_1_3?crid=2TEFJCPTWH93C&keywords=mc4%2Bbare%2Bwire%2Bcables&qid=1647898475&sprefix=mc4%2Bbare%2Bwire%2Bc%2Caps%2C196&sr=8-3&th=1

@@desertsun02 nice. Hope to see a video of it if you do.
How can I get solar for a space heater? Can this work with that?
hi. yes, this can be run directly on a 12v solar panel 🙂
How much for a built one some of us don't do stuf as cool
Dear where from you got heating elements of 12 volt DC.?
use noctua fans, they are the most efficient small form factor PC fans with the best CFM and lowest noise levels, best fans
What kind of battery source are you using
hi. when i run it on 12v battery it's usually to a 101ah deep cycle battery
Is there a fuse or a battery between the heater and the solar panels
hi. no battery needed. it's just a straight connect from the solar panels to the heater.
@@desertsun02 Thank you
Would be good if you got instructions on how to build one cheers
hi there. this video contains "the full-build with instructions". the heater comes pre-assembled, so other than the talk-thru - all that was needed was to show how to install the switches and the soldering. is there any part i can help you with? 🙂
@@desertsun02yes help please make another video showing step by step
@@bluemagic8404he already did that
Hello, what is your solar panel amp output?
hi there. about 6 amps
@@desertsun02 thank you.
Again, genius. This is some deeply satisfying DIY porn right here.
Would like to cola borate on some ideas if your up for it, very nice work!
What are the heaters called and where can I order them from?
hi. they're called PTC 12v ceramic heaters. amazon sells lots. here's a link to one. www.amazon.com/Constant-Temperature-Heating-Conditioning-Products/dp/B082HR1GWY/ref=pd_day0_c_469_1/143-3040554-3226717?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B082HR1GWY&pd_rd_r=7a092253-5590-48a2-9b68-7bd3048bf4d7&pd_rd_w=ilwz3&pd_rd_wg=GjZyh&pf_rd_p=52c44813-ece5-43b5-85d3-aeb14689b184&pf_rd_r=641N0SBTBCAQVTP8PVDX&psc=1&refRID=641N0SBTBCAQVTP8PVDX
Do the same with car PTC heater please:)
but can this work at night?
If we have not solar panel how we can use then please reply me
hi there. any 12v power source will work (as long as it generates the amps that you need). you can run this off a 12v deep cycle battery or your cars 12v power socket. you can also run this off of wall current if you use a transformer.
You could make a KILLING on ETSY if you sold these units. You should at the very least list it to gauge feedback
Could you explain the wiring up in more details (for a dumb woman who never as much as even changed a light bulb to understand🤣)
hi there. they sell mc4 cables an amazon with bare wire on one end. that would be the best thing to use. then you can just twist the wires to connect it all. they only cost 5 dollars too here's a link
www.amazon.com/Renogy-Controller-Connector-Adaptor-Extension/dp/B00DGXVO80/ref=sr_1_3?crid=2TEFJCPTWH93C&keywords=mc4%2Bbare%2Bwire%2Bcables&qid=1647898475&sprefix=mc4%2Bbare%2Bwire%2Bc%2Caps%2C196&sr=8-3&th=1
@@desertsun02 oh thats super, thankyou so much. I am in the UK but i am sure the cable prices will be similar. :-)
Do you sell these?
hi. i don't sell them (i just show how to make)
eBay dude, got one it works a treat, was about ten pounds UK money 👍😎
Only 50° ? Ok... and with 0° outside ?
Can I pay ya to build me one? Lol
Can I messenger you on fb?
