"We dont care if it's true when we lay the money down
We don't believe the words, we just love the way they sound"
(y)
that thumb up worked well
These are the exact lines that caught me!
Years later still coming back to this.
It's just like a cigarette, Addictive.
this is why i like fort minor, i'm happy that there are still rappers out there who really have something to say, hip-hop with a meaning is very rare these days.
You're a poet and didn't know it.
ToxicHorsePucky Actually he did... stupid
Peter Ireland reported Jinx for tower dive.
Theres plenty of deep hiphop riddled with meaning around. You just have to go looking for it and stay the fuck away from this mainstream mumbling bullshit that everyone seems to love
*were
"Give your whole neighborhood some second hand rap." One of the many reasons i love Mike Shioda. He's a genius
Shinoda...so underrated
Happy about third year anniversary on this random comment
Where is he underrated? This guy is SOOO famous. Me n dudes in Russia always play his discs on home parties
@@Pavel-re7ib maybe he is famous in Russia but nowhere else
I was just thinking they should release a new fort minor album but ....
I was listening to this song and realized that I commented here previously so... happy 6 year anniversary on this comment?
the fact is mike not only writes the lyrics but he also composes the tunes too he plays the piano .. 'get me gone' is another goodie.. he is a talented artist.. his music is art.. people should check out the making of fort minor rising tide.
*tied
OMG TAMERLEIN I JUST REALIZED IT'S TIED AND NOT TIDE
Writes every lyric every ryme. Lol
Writes every note and every line
The truth in this song gives me the chills. This society feeds on the negative things we claim to hate so much. We eat it up. We ask for the truth, but do we really wanna hear it for what it really is? No, we'd rather feel better.
Lyrics
Man, I love this rap game, mainly 'cause it's cool
To add a little spice to the life you've been through
Everyone exaggerates a tiny little bit
Make that shit sound more gangsta than it really is
You can't appear weak, man, we wanna hear street
We wanna hear you spit your thug over this here beat
Don't take it as sarcastic, I can't get enough
I'm telling you, you can call my bluff, if it's not rough
Then, I really don't need it, I'm not even ashamed
I got too much reality that's filling up my brain
So sell me on that product, I'm addicted to the game
Suck it up like a cigarette, light it up, man
[Chorus]
It's just like a cigarette, it's something that I do
Once in a while, but between me and you
It's just like a cigarette, nobody's really fooled
I don't want the truth, I wanna feel fucking cool
[Verse 2]
Let me tell you something that I realized tonight
My hip-hop radio's like Marlboro light
They both selling stories and they sound about the same
Cigarettes say they safe, rappers claim they really bang
We don't care if it's true when we just lay the money down
We don't believe the words, we just love the way they sound
They're acting like we're idiots, they're lying to our face
Maybe we are idiots, we buy it anyway
I'm running out to get the next rapper's CD
Just sucking up the guns, drugs, and misogyny
The same way that I suck up all the stories when I breathe
That little bit of death, supposedly cancer free
And everything they say's got the truth twisted up
And twisted up's what I want, man, I can't get enough
'Cause even though we know it's all just a big bluff
We just light another up, what, we don't give a fuck!
[Chorus]
It's just like a cigarette, it's something that I do
Once in a while, but between me and you
It's just like a cigarette, nobody's really fooled
I don't want the truth, I wanna feel fucking cool
It's just like a cigarette, it's something that I do
Over and over, but between me and you
It's just like a cigarette, nobody's really fooled
I don't want the truth, I wanna feel fucking cool
[Bridge]
Man, listen to my words, listen for a while
Lip service radio, don't touch the dial
If you're in the car, turn up the track, man
Give your whole neighborhood some second hand rap
Hey, a matter of fact, listen for a while
Lip service radio, don't touch the dial
If your in the car, man, turn up the track
And give the whole neighborhood some second hand rap
Tysm
He gives you the lyrics in the captions but I appreciate it
"We don't believe the words, we just love the way they sound."
That's modern life in one sentence right there.
Fort Minor is responsible for a lot of second hand rap around here.
+G20 Hmm sorry, Why?
+Anaaa. you dont get it
hello
lol I get it nice xD
what do you mean by second hand music?
This song is so relevant in today’s rap culture
It just gold 🏆🏆🏆🏆. And him his Writings.
The more I listen to today's rap tracks the more I cringe and the more I respect Mike Shinoda more and more, getting closer to call him a legend
Shinoda is a legend for sure.
A real artist and a down to earth guy.
He is a legend
Yes he is . it's 16 years later and people still coming back over a cigarette song lol. Legend!!!
Dudes lyrics have been keepin me alive since Linkin park. Had his raps on repeat for a year straight
Mike is a brilliant lyricist. I'm not into hip hop at all, but this kind of music and lyrics has a theme so universal and durable, it is difficult not to like and respect it.
This reminds me of some interview with Tupac. The part I'm talking about goes like this: "Listen to what they sayin', don't just bob your head to the beat"
M. Shinoda can still give a tough competitions to today's self claimed rappers😎🤘🏻
i remember when i heard this on my walkman way back in the days .. then when everything was so smooth.. things were so smooth if you know what i mean. music felt like music
Mandy Lane your walkman??? This came out in the 2000s, we had MP3 players. What do you mean by "back in the days?" This isn't that old.
Nick R i was thinking the same thing when i read that comment
HotAsIce he's a "I WAS BORN IN THE WRONG GENERATION" type of person.
Nick R XD
Did we just share a core memory?
I miss Fort Minor:(
It's supposedly coming back soon!
ODST Tygre III Too bad I've been hearing that for years.:( I hope it's true though!!
Roxanne Ringler Yeah, I heard somewhere that there's going to be a 2015 album........ I hope it's true. But we'll see. I'm ODST Tygre III by the way, I'm just too lazy to change accounts again right now, lol
I too, Men :(
there is a new album now
I can no longer describe what I feel when I hear these songs. Mike Shinoda, you are truly an inspiration.
Fort minor is my fave and his raps calms me in bad days
Armando Flores their*
it´s 3 guys
Armando Flores But the dude rapping this song is Mike Shinoda, if you listen to Linkin Park you know him :D
Samuel Wernert fort minor is mike shinoda. Only him.
+Skatemaster3000 ryu, tak?
+I don't trust all dogs but I trust some dogs only featured artists, though heavily so.
Love this fucking beat so much
I love all his beats man, especially this one, back home and remember the name. Killed it there!
Mike Shinoda, Macklemore, Slug (atmosphere) , BoB, Man.. All these "real talk" rappers are rising up. I love it. It brought me back to rap.
Macklemore is a douche though.
B.o.B. sucks
rising up? this song is almost 10 years old
What about eminem (not shady).
***** Dude macklemore started rapping in 1997, so technically he's been around way longer than fort minor (2004). Give his album Language of My World a listen, it's more old school than this, and the lyrics are much more real. No reason to hate macklemore just because his new shit has got mainstream.
That second versus only comes from the mind of a genius
Funny how 7 years later, the song is still relevant as fk
Fort minor forever
My friend just said: "This is lame. Look at the lyrics, he says: "I do it cause its cool!" ... I should think my friends over...xD
*the point of this song*
*Your friend's head*
This is the only hip hop music I really like that was released in this Millennium.
I hope that some day in the ashes of all the stoic party lyrics, and endless resampling of the same beats, that a new saviour comes and brings back originality.
If you have any suggestions on where I should start, I'd absolutely love to read them.
I would recommend NF. He is possibly the most intense musician I have ever heard. And he raps about life, not just sex or money.
Look up Lose Yourself by Eminem, I bet you'll like it
haha you think anyone in this world hasnt herd loose yourself lol u melon
george neve Yes, considering OP's description of popular music.
over 10 years n this shit is still good as I heard it back then next fort
I listened to this song high and my brain exploded
not a huge rap fan but this is good the instrumental is amazing
This album is classic
I miss Fort Minor =[[
Come back please!!!!
Where'd ya go. I miss you so.
I love fort minor simply because they don't make rap about gold babes or cash, they GIVE their raps an actual meaning
the song is straight up fire and true 🔥🔥🔥 Mike is such
an underrated rapper he needs to be recognized more often
Had the pleasure of hearing this live on Mike's Vienna show a couple of days ago. Man, I will never understand where all this comes from in you, but am I fucking grateful for the opportunity to actually enjoy what you do. Thank you SO MUCH.
Mike Shinoda
lyrically brilliant
we really need a new fortminor album!
The funny thing is I've been listening to this album ever since it came out ever single fucking day. These songs simply never get old. The sound, the lyric, you can relate to it all so damn well. This is a lesson for song writers, if people can't relate to it then don't even bother making it.
Being in home cuz Covid, made me get some nostalgic moments!
this is one of the best rap tracks ever in existence
"Give your whole neighborhood some second-hand rap". Love that line, I wish someone would bump THIS in their car when they drive by instead of...other stuff. -_- Also, I love the choral arrangement. Really gives it a dramatic feel.
1:56 Best f-bomb in the entire music industry haha
I remember when I bought this cd. I had some subs in my car at the time. I used to bump this song. I wasnt bumping any rap, I was bumping so cal rap.
this beat is so sick
mike shinoda should really make another album with fort minor
This song is a classic
The best track on this album. Mike is brilliant.
the most real song ever.
simultaneously the best song ever.
tbh, the complete album spits fire!
omg that cigarette comparison is one of the most amazing mataphores I have ever heard
I don't get the comments that say "still listening to this in 2016?" Like yea we are dumbass bc we like it like what are we not suppose to listen to it if it's like more than 2 years old
I don't care what anyone says. Pure underground.
2018 and this is still my jam!
12 years… damn, my life was so different, so nostalgic, man…
Shinoda gt skills 2 eat up mainstream rappers!!!
& he fully delivers in both rock n hip hop joints
Mike is one of those rappers who alot of people sleep on. In polls on social media i never see him ever get put up there like ever. Let one of your friends who are into rap give high voltage a chance, the lyrics on that song are wildly out there his play on words are way out there.
it's been almost seven years, and as is Mike, i'm still addicted...
Wow, Mike you're so talented.
I remember hearing this for the first time on a road trip to Bangalore and thinking to myself that hip hop will never be the same for me again.. FM was so underrated. Just pure genius.
I love the sound effects so much
Best fucking rap song. So chill
I swear to fucking god. That string in the first verse... That bass string. It fills my soul. It enlightens me so much. This whole song
I haven't heard this song in a long time and I had to hear this again after running into it
epic song (: love the beat
i love this
The beats behind those bomb ass lyrics is just the icing on the cake.
Instead of a movie about Eminem we need to make a movie about mike Shinoda
Eminem is the one who brought rap music for whites, Mike writes the best lyrics ever possible. Whom are you comparing?
Prophec Stuffs mike isn’t white
FUCK YEAH!!!!! FUUUUUUCKKKK YEEEEEAAAHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@@Spearz5 Well, Mike is mostly white with japanese ancestors from one side of his grandparents.
@@antbereishit that would mean the side of one of his parents so he’s Japanese white mix
The Best Fort Minor song 🤘🏻
He's saying that it's something that people do for coolness. When Mike is one of those good rappers who actually talk about important things, not just about being cool
Been so long but still hits hard after 13 years
my favorite song right now
Me and my friend Matt dog used to listen to this song and inhale cigarettes, and sing the chorus
2017 and still one of my favourite albums
Jay-Z produced this song. Jay-Z should have listened to this song.
This is the ultimate mockery of the rap establishment and the culture surrounding it that has led to the self-deception of millions of insecure African Americans who look for belonging. The genius of Shinoda is that he did it from inside the industry, and had its biggest name produce it.
+Phoenix Urban i think he did listen to it, there's a video of them bumping the album and deciding what goes on it
***** do you have a link to that?
And Cigaretts is at 8:54 Jay-Z said it is his favourite record
+Phoenix Urban He probably listened to it but he didn't care because his meaningless songs maid him rich and when you have money you still want more. More money and working the least ...
(sorry if my english isn't perfect I speak french)
+Myk | IMystikHD your English is great!
This gave me chills, awesome song
Amazing beat.
2019? I love this song... miss you Chester..
I love you, Mike Shinoda. Your songs understand me.
Man Mike makes the sickest beats
i will be REALLY happy if fort minor ever came out with a new album
Love this!!!
2019 yeh boy !!!!!
oo . ! Mike Shinoda ♥
Still relevant 12 year after
love this song
This is definitely one of my top 10 tracks I relate to in my life. Mike Shinoda is such a beast, No offense he is GREAT in Linkin Park But When he is Doing Fort Minor.... I mean DAMN!!! This is what Real Rasp is. Mike And S.O.B. Is still keeping it alive with they flow!!!! MACHINE SHOP!!!
damn, i actually forgot what my favorite songs were. back home at last!
This shit kills, I cant stop listening
the beat are hipnotic
#1 MIKE SHINODA rapper
Mike is a genious :) love him
mike shinoda...simply.... sensational
This is sick!

sick man! really unique in ALL aspects.
Fort Minor may rap for Linkin Park, but he is his own artist. And honestly, "right now", he is doing so much better than them, "believe me", "remember the name" because he is better than most rapper, maybe on par with eminem, but i mean, whatever people feels like the songs "feel like home". just don't become "petrified" because you are too biased, "be somebody" and "slip out the back" and don't miss the opportunities given. cuz "there they go:, and you'll end up asking... "Where'd you go?"
Mind expanding
Just passing by to make sure people are still listening to this masterpiece.
Am I the only one?
This is my jam
Mike is too underrated. He pwns the rappers like lil wayne flo rida soulja boy...
thumbs up if u think so!
