One thing you notice about these comments is that there is not one bad word said about the man. Says it all really. If there were more people like Fred in the world it would be a better place.

I was raised by a man of Fred's caliber, I was raised in awe of these great men the likes of whom I doubt I will see in my lifetime and it saddens me that such be the case. Good, hardworking blokes who knew their stuff and could keep you enthralled for hours, like Fred's chimneys - giants fall when they pass. How greatful I am, and how greatful we all should be for them, may their legacies live forever.

Only got to know Fred tonight via youtube from my lounge in Australia and it is a credit to his character that getting to the end of his clips to learn he had passed brought a tear to my eye, that a man could warm your soul in 1 night you never even met. Any why would it? The past is in the past.
I know it is nice to cling on to the past and past values, memories, and such like. But you will be happier when you let it go.
Your parents will have felt the same, and your parents parents. The only difference is the issues which shape the world at the time.
I remember the past fondly, and in many ways the country will never be the same. But I am also excited for the future.

I'm a Cockney, London born and bred. There is something magical about Freds voice. Not just the accent, but the way he explains a very complicated proceedure in laymans terms. It is the confidence in the knowledge he imparts that makes you want to listen. And I did, and still do. Not some know it all BBC twat, but a man that wants you to share his experience and learn so that you can feel what he feels. He will never be replaced. As unique as DNA.

From his shop at his home in College Park Georgia he had the giants of industry come in hopes he would take on their repair work whether in replacement or refurbishment. The truth is, of course, there are hundreds, even thousands, of "national treasures" in countries around the world. But most never get recognised as such until after they are gone.
We're lucky that Fred did get spotted and was able to provide us with some great entertaining and insightful television before he died.

great loss to this country was Fred.....it is such a shame that his brain could not have been " downloaded " as in his skills etc etc, but at least we have the visual videos of this great man.....RIP Fred you were one of a kind........

I live 5min walk from his house. Still full coach loads of people turning up at his house, particulary in summer to tour his house and the fascinating things he built in his garden.
