Bought a C-Stand recently because of this photoshoot.....what an amazing equipment!
best video youve done for ages..funny & very informative.. you flash work is my inspiration
GilbertTV thanks G
Thank you so much for making this video Brandon! Super helpful!
Brandon Calloway thanks man I appreciate it
I just want to say I’ve learned so much from watching your videos. I’ve been following you for awhile! Great information bro!
New intro is dope!
This is the only video one would need to learn ambient light. You broke this down Barney style. Thanks for another amazing tutorial.
Absolutely your welcome
Thanks for the on location off camera flash tips, as well as getting that sound corrected! I'll try to put these tips in use this coming Thursday "weather permitting!"
Good deal fam
Beautiful pictures!
Thank you for the great tips and tricks, you are doing a great job at what you do, I wasn’t aware that the ext. cable/head and bag was available for the 600pro!!! Thank you very much, I ordered today from Adorama, but also discovered that the AD200 also has a six foot ext head. AD200V2/ cable and additional acc. Carry bag that mounts to your C stand, so I had to order 2 of those!!! Just make sure that you order the AD200 Version two kit, as it addresses compatibility issues with the AD-B2 adapter... the uses of these items are endless, but the security and insurance of a fall is priceless
Great video my brother. It was so clear and so informative. I feel like I could actually begin to experiment with off camera flash. You and Tameka did a great job keep up the good work!
Muata O thanks bro
Good advice man. Thanks for the video tutorial. Very helpful.
Man I watched this video right before a shoot today and glad I did .. I forgot my trusty AD360 at home and only had my Godox V860II on a super bright day here .. ain't gone lie, almost panicked and asked my client to wait while I drive back and get my AD360 .. But decided to man up, act like a pro, took some deep breathes, wiped away the sweat, exposed for my ambient, put that V860II on my stand with a 24x24 softbox, and went for it ...Man I rocked the heck outta that shoot, pushed that V860II for all it had to give, but got it done .. thanks for a timely video upload...and I love your model...she's full of flava and personality
contactpq thanks man!! I’m glad it worked out!! That’s awesome bro. Take it by the horns and get it done with what you got bro!!
@@BrandonColePhotography Man thanks to great photogs like you who so freely share what you've learned with the rest of us ... I found the confidence needed to deal with the matter on the spot
Good tips B!!! Gonna keep in mind today in my shoot!!!
Thanks for the video and gear list.
Excellent video. Thanks.
Great Vid!!!! Intro is 🔥🔥🔥🔥. Looking forward to more B
MaL 1 Thanks fam
Would really love more like this BC! Loved it!
Beautiful ! Well explained .
Very informative. Thanks man.
Thanks for the info. Glad I found your channel.
Good video my man. I remember your channel from a couple of years back and just re found you. I also have the X600 (manual) flash with the extension head. Havent had much time to shoot on location OCF, and was thinking about selling the extension head. But after watching your video, I was quickly reminded as to why I purchased it in the first place. I have the next size up glow softbox but its really too deep and front heavy. I'm going to pick up the 34" like you used and get my ass back out to shooting! thanks again.
Super useful video, well done! In next week I have also outdoor shoot with 2 models, learned lot from you :) Thank you very musch!
This was right on time B. I have a on location shoot today that I will be working in the exact same conditions. I was definitely racking my mind on properly exposing for the shoot. This was excellent! Definitely picking up a C-Stand and boom next too.
Jerret Cain that’s awesome bro thanks a ton. Hope it helps
Like the new Intro B! LOOOOOOOVE Tamika tho! Thanks man!
FAMUCHOLLY yea she’s awesome

Nice vid 🔥🔥🇯🇲
Only just came across your channel and it’s really good. I wanna just come and say thank you for this video 👍🏾
Appreciate it and how did you find it? Searching something specific?
@@BrandonColePhotography was searching for videos on the Sigma 35mm 1.4 Art lens and your comparison video came up and have been hooked on your channel since 😁
Thanks Brandon, nice tutorial!
Appreciate it thank you!
Thank you Brandon, really good video!

How do you get that nice warm glow on your models?
Hey B great vid! Maybe I missed it in the equip section. What kind of bag are you using to carry your AD600?
Thanks for the information brother. Well done
Keith Lemm thanks bro
Good video bro loved it and glad u showed that mic
Duke Greer no doubt
Really good and simple video 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
falented2 thank you
yooo ima favorite this video thanks
Thx fam
Hey B, love all your vids been a fan for a while and with all this pandemic time off i been rewatching all your previous vids like this one. @ 7:14 you assemble your beauty dish, from what I see you have the both diffusers left on as well as the deflector plate and then pull to assemble and lock in place? I was just observing your technique and thought it was interesting. Thanks
Thank you!
Good stuff. What mode do you shoot on? Manual, shutter, or aperture.
Great video! I noticed you were turning off and on the flash trigger. You can assign a custom button to use “Shot Result Preview”. That would enable you to see your ambient. No need to turn your flash off and on.
That was done due to the fact that when you teach, you do things in a way that EVERYONE can understand, not just people who have an A7lll to assign a button. So since all cameras are not created equal, I do it the way everyone can do it like BEFORE we had a custom button :)
Brandon Cole Photography ok. I understand. Maybe that’s a tip you can include in a future episode for Sony users. Not a lot of people know about it.
Rony Canales true
great tutorial
Great vid, thanks for sharing
thanks bro
Amazing thank's , is that the white beauty dish or silver, thanks
Appreciate the video
What is the name of the viewfinder that you have on the camera
I really like this because BC is explaining just how he is doing the pictures.
Appreciate it
Comedian, actor, and now photographer.... Kevin Hart..... you’re awesome!!!
Good night Brandon, i love your videos. Do you have a tutorial on camera settings using a A7 3 with off-camera flash both indoors and outdoors? Thanks.
I dont but i will try to get one out
Do you set your white balance or just do what’s explained in the video? Thanks 🙏
Thanks for the video. I always seem to forget to first expose for the background the lighting was spot on... Personally I prefer leaving a little bit of detail in the background otherwise defeats the whole purpose of having gone to a nice location..I remember once shooting all my pics at f1.8 and couldn't remember which location was which.
KC Hose thanks beo
Great video
Willie Mills Thank you
when exposing for ambient is your sony Live view display set. to off or on?
On
Hey what tripod are you using in this video?
Great Video Brandon! I went down your equipment list but can't seem to locate the name of the unit you have on top of the triggers. I love the larger screen so I can see more details before taking the shot. please advise what it is and provide a link of possible! thank yoU!
That is a ninja Atmos, it is quite an expensive video recording monitor. He was using it so that we were able to see through the cameras viewfinder for the video. But it wouldn’t typically be used just as a monitor. If you only want to something to preview your shots, you can find much cheaper monitors on Amazon.
Quick question , when u expose for ambient u in Manuel correct ? Iso 100 or like u said 50....2.8 f-stop then play with the light or dark for dramatic 🤔
Nahh this definitely help, next is studio flash that would be great 👍🏼
randy pimentel did you see the latest studio video
Good Morning Brandon, caught your video on Ambient through Photography & Videography School link - It's a real small world, It seems the location is similar to where I first met you Seotember 13, 2017. Your info is exactly what I need to be practicing. Nice job Brandon!.
Brenda Delores Poole Thank you Brenda!!
Send me the link where you saw it. I’m curious how it got there
Very informative. Beginner light setup suggestions ? Please and thank you 👍😀
I have a video on beginning light setups
@@BrandonColePhotography Found it. thanks
Yo bro. Love all of your stuff hence my sub. Since when does dragging the shutter brighten up the flash. I thought that just brightened the ambient. Her skin tone on that blue sky is pure 🔥
James Mason Slowing your shutter doesn’t brighten the flash but if you take a shot like I did at 1/2500 and it’s too dark, I knew all I had to do is slow the shutter to match what the flash output was at the time which was 1/16
Brandon Cole Photography and you did it so well. Thanks.
That new intro is phat!
Appreciate it bro
Cool video nice
Good Afternoon! Just wondering, what are your "focus settings" for portrait photography?"
Good stuff 👍🏾
Teddy Tedd thx T
What brand Atomos are you using?
Good stuff...
Thank you
Dope video. Like the new intro bruh! Thanks for going back to the basic teaching. Keep up the great work.
ljwhatup thanks brother I appreciate that
Always great videos pal but just one question why aren’t you using your histogram and the camera light meter to set exposure ??? Iam I missing something here ??
Thx Adrian
You use your sun and ambient outside as your meter. You don’t need a light meter outside lol only to gage and set fstop and shutter inside a studio
@@BrandonColePhotography I shoot landscape photography I always use my in camera light meter and histogram to avoid clipping ,which gives me a rough guide to work from ,but I guess you don’t use either but iam surprised you don’t use your histogram,so your basically setting your values on what you think is right for your photos it’s like guesstimating exposure your way
Love the Sean c Johnson intro
please 135mm and 70 to 200mm lens which one is good for portrait and what monitor are you using on top of your camera
70200 is better and more versatile
😫😫😫😫😫bn looking for your channel......i dig your work on ig
When you are metering your scene via in camera, what metering option do you use, spot, center-weighted or evaluative?
Omniconcepts_7 evaluative for the whole scene
Thank you for making the effort to answer my question, thanks for your service, my brother is in his twentieth year of service, Nayy.
Shooting in manual mode once the exposure was dialed in? Flash manual setting also?
Yes manual for flash also
Thank you 🙏 brother for sharing
May Allah bless you Aamiin 🙏😘
Cool
thanks
Do you use the reflective disc in the beauty dish or just the diffusion panels?
I use the deflector plate also. Thats what gives the beauty look
Brandon Cole Photography thanks brother!
When you changed your shutter speed from 1/2500 to 1/1600, i didn't know it would affect your flash output. Is it only for speeds not in hi speed sync?
Leon King it didn’t affect my flash output. The flash stayed on 1/16. I didn’t really need to change it because of the shot I took at 1/2500 which was too dark so I just needed to slow down the shutter a little for a good flash
So technically, when you adjust shutter speeds in the HSS range (typically 1/250 - 1/8000) there is a power loss the faster you go. This is because high speed sync is achieved by your flash emitting thousands of micro flashes over a longer duration than a typical flash. As you increase your shutter speed your image sensor is exposed to fewer of these micro flashes, therefore absorbing less light overall.
Montains by sean C Johnson instrumental in the background
I had the 42" and sent it back, the interior was white.........I should have had silver correct
I was about to return my 34” beauty dish, but for after this video I’m keeping it
It’s good
The beauty dish, was it silver or white on the inside?
David Slocumb silver
@@BrandonColePhotography thanks for all your help
dear brandon
when you measure for the ambient, you meausre the ambient at the back of the subject or meausure right away to the subject
The ambient as well as the subject
What meter mode do u use?
rehab 101 evaluative
What's the name of the external monitor that you used? I need one lol

Bikefreakstl 🤦🏾♂️🤷🏽♀️
This is dope i just got the glow 34, ad200, and rode go too. Dope vid as usual #BokehNation
Im pretty sure instead of turning the trigger off everytime you can put a custom button that shows you the shot result preview.
Hero Shotz thx fam
Hero Shotz yes you can setup a custom button which I have but everyone doesn’t have an a7lll or custom button to do so. So I have to teach as if all cameras are different
👍🏽
Having that boom saves the headache in finding a assistant.
Ricky Thomas Exactly
when is the critique
That Camaro sounding kinda weak 🤔🤣😂
Steven Sanchez lol you don’t want them problems!
@@BrandonColePhotography lol. My nutribullet got more kick to it. Lmao. Good video btw. Digging the new intro.
