Hee, I love this! Glinda's cute voice and informal 'daisuki'! Elphie's formal speech and their "aa, iya. eeee~" and Glinda's ridiculously fast description make this an AWESOME song.

English translation~(note: some may not be a direct word for word translation but the idea is to get the same feeling across)
Glinda: Dispensing with the preliminaries, to my dear Mommy and Daddy.
Elphaba: To my dearly beloved Father.
Both: How have you been lately?
G: I have gotten used to school
    E: without a problem, but...
Both: There's something on my mind...ahh...ugh...yes. It's the first time I've met a girl like that.
G: She's just not exactly normal, very strange, and even I can't understand her at all...
    E: She's an idiot.
G: I wonder what this feeling is.
E: I noticed it as soon as I saw you.
    G: I'm feeling uncertain
E: And sick to my stomach
    G: No matter what
Both: It won't stop. I put up with it until today, but...
No way! I can't take it, I hate you!
    G: You disgust me
    E: Ugh!
    G: Everything about you
    Both: I loathe this girl!
I don't even wanna see her face. Just throw her out over there.
It just won't work for me. I can't take it, I hate her!
Every single little thing disgusts me.
Why did I have to meet this kind of girl? God, please help!
Students: What's wrong, Galinda? I can't believe it about that girl. It's alright, you're the best, you can do anything, you're an amazing person.
G: Yes, but this is tough...
Students: You're an eyesore. We don't even wanna see your face. Don't even come near us, alright?
    Both: This feeling
    (Students: No way!)
    I wonder what it is.
(We can't take it, we hate her!)
I noticed it as soon as I saw you.
(We're disgusted, ugh, everything about her)
I'm sick to my stomach, and feeling on edge
    (We loathe that girl!)
    It won't stop
(We don't even wanna see her face)
    I've been enduring it...
(Just throw her out over there)
    Yes...ahh...no way!
    (Ugh!)
    I can't take it, I hate you!
    (That's right!)
    Everything about that girl
    (Everything!)
    Disgusts me!
    (Disgusting!)
Both: Why did this have to happen to me?
There's just no way, no matter what, there's no way
    I hate that girl!
(No way! We can't take it, we hate her!)

    Obaka
Is a way to say "little idiot."
It is usaully used when mature adults refer to children.
She is calling Galinda "A Dumb Little Child"

  • @rachelthedemon

@GranitePlox Sort of. "Obaka" means "little idiot," which is the same thing that "blonde" was implying in the English version. But since blonde doesn't quite have the same stereotype in Japan that it does in the West, the joke wouldn't have translated.

the lyrics are totally different in Japanese than in english
like when Glinda sings in english what is this feeling so sudden and new in Japanese she sings
Kono Kimochi nani kashira which pretty much mean what kind of feeling is this
in english when they sing "loathing, unadulterated loathing, for your face, your voice, your clothing, let's just say i loathe it all" in Japanese they say Dame, Taerarenai kirai, Iya yo, mou, subete, konoko, dai kirai,

      @nogigin9790 6 лет назад +11

edelric009 Yeah, you can’t translate English to Japanese and keep a coherent tune. It is utterly impossible. The fact that they managed to keep the general message comprehensible is impressive enough.

    GALINDA:
    tonikaku futsuu janakute
    totemo kawatte ite
    sasuga no atashi de mo
    mattaku rikai dekinai...
    ELPHABA:
    ... oBAKA.

@NoPlanetStudios That's not quite true. The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is one of the most widely translated books of all time. It is even bigger in other countries than it is in the US.

It’s interesting that all the main female characters seem to default to “atashi”. It doesn’t surprise me at all for Galinda, but I would have guessed that Elphie would be a bit more formal.

Putting お in front of a word = making it more polite, basically. It's an honorific.

    She says
    "Little Idiot"
Adding "ko" or occassionally "o" makes something little in Japanese. Simillar to ito/ita in spanish.
    Hermano= Brother
    Hermanito= Little Brother
    Baka=Idiot
    Obaka= Little Idiot

What the fuck are you talking about? This is a story based on The Wizard of Oz. It’s SUPPOSED to be a stereotypical witch appearance. Plus her appearance is important to the plot. Her green skin is part of what drives her to her extremist actions, her hat and “witchy” cloak were given to her by Glinda, her best friend, in the book only her apparent allergy to water is NOT a cakewalk, and this ENTIRE musical (and book) is all about why Elphaba’s stereotypical “witchiness” And perceived “evilness” is entirely unfitting. I don’t think you’ve even seen the musical.
